will you come for Khmer new year? this year we have a big Songkran in Siem Reap.
@EoinandAisling Жыл бұрын
We won't be in Cambodia at that time but we would love to see the festival, we were in Thailand for it last year so it would be great to see how Cambodia celebrates 🎉
@maayaa3921 Жыл бұрын
Haha Siem Reap, even famous with us locals. Sad that you guys are not staying for the Songkran (which is Khmer new year) around the April and Siem Reap just transform into a huge water fight province
@JJ-vy2rh Жыл бұрын
I don't think the Khmer call it that, I'll be there for their new year

A long time ago Khmer call " Chaul Chnam Thmey" but it's not popular like "Songkran" in Thailand so they change it for promote their tourism.
@maayaa3921 Жыл бұрын
@@zaamzaam903 Songkran is a term derived from the Sanskrit word, saṅkrānti (or, more specifically, meṣa saṅkrānti) and used to refer to the traditional New Year for Buddhist calendar celebrated in Bangladesh, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, parts of northeast India, parts of Vietnam and Xishuangbanna, China. Stop claiming stuff to be your own it's embarrassing

I never find it hot but I'm from Australia, I don't think cafe Amazon is cheap, before covid the made in Cambodia market was somewhere else and much busier
@EoinandAisling Жыл бұрын
We thought the heat in Cambodia was so hot in comparison to some of the SEA countries we've visited, cafe Amazon is cheaper than the likes of Starbucks but if we were going there every day it would quickly add up. And oh where was the market before?

The name "Siem Reap" comes from the Khmer language and is derived from two words: "Reap" meaning "defeat" and "Siem" meaning "Thais," referring to the ancient conflict between the Khmer Empire and the neighboring Thai Kingdoms. The name is said to commemorate the victory of the Khmer King Ang Chan over the Thai forces in the 16th century.

I'm an old American who has been infatuated with Siem Reap for quite some time now and been watching everything I can find. -- -- So here I am !!! -- -- Strongly considering it as an ideal retirement destination for the rest of my days. -?- Perhaps nearly perfect for my criteria as I see it ? -- -- Cheap cost of living no winters great food variety English is spoken super friendly people beautiful city that's big enough but not too big. + 20K expats from many countries enjoying their life there ! -- And > a cheap 1 hour flight to Bangkok for fun or quality health care. = What's not to like ? -- -- Long term lease rates can be had super cheap compared to the US and many claim a reasonably comfortable life on a budget of $700 -- $800 USD / mo. for a single person !!! -- -- Essentially about half of the 'average' Social Security $1500 Check for retired Americans. -- -- Happens to be me too. -- ? -- 2024 sometime ?
