Exploring Captain Thunderbolts Hideouts - Part One

Great work! I had a friend growing up who lived on a property in between Willow Tree and Quirindi that had cliff areas (you can see these from the highway). I’d been told that Thunderbolt had used these to watch for mail coaches carrying gold from Nundle back to Maitland. Apparently some of the spoils of his hold ups were secreted in the rocks around that area. I went up there a few times and the view was great. Thunderbolt travelled some amazing country!

Few years ago when I was working for a transport company we had the task of moving inventory from the police storage in Sydney and one officer was good enough to let me hold the gun that thunderbolt used, it was a musket type of hand gun. I felt privileged to hold a part of Australian history.

G'day that's very interesting,I've been in the cave at mt Lindsay Rd just today , definitely had aboriginal connection we could feel it , the spots were handed to him by the kamilaroy ,bunjalung,githabul tribes ,there's no way any white man could have had access to these places 🙏 Goodluck with your family research ☮️✌️
