He missed the sports venues, the Warehouse District with tons of bars and restaurants and the magnificence of University Circle with museums galore. I worked in Cleveland for almost 25 years from 1980s on and my favorite lunch stop for a long time was in the Old Arcade building on Superior. There was another Arcade between Euclid and Prospect, but it was not as elaborate as the one on Superior. I tried to do all my exploring of Cleveland on my lunch hours and accomplished that with a lot of "extended" lunch hours. I was a dyed-in-the-wool East Sider, but did manage to get to the near West Side on occasion. I especially liked it when the planes were practicing for the annual air show. I could walk to the lake, look up at the jet, blink, and knew that that plane was probably now in Canada. One time one of this jets must have noticed me waving and managed to hover over me for a few seconds.

I grew up in Chicago but moved to Cle 30 years ago when I was in my mid 30’s. This is definitely home to me now and like any other midsize large city we have our issues. That being said, I’ve been to many other large cities and at the end of the day day, the traffic is reasonable. The housing prices are reasonable, and the quality of life ispretty good overall.

Ohio City is a neighborhood of Cleveland, just west of downtown. The river is the Cuyahoga. The Cleveland Museum of Art and other museums, orchestra, Little Italy are not that far east of downtown in university circle neighborhood via the transit station he was in or via BRT along Euclid Avenue. Lots of other cool neighborhoods, venues, and parks as well.

I used to work in downtown Cleveland in the 1970's near the Cleveland Public Library, really nice then. The Arcade on Superior is really a highlight!! The State theater is beautiful inside too. The Halle Brothers & Higbees were both beautiful department stores, sadly no more. Halles turned into apartments & Higbees is now a casino! I really don't go downtown Cleveland anymore. I live about 25 miles away in a nice suburb. You are right, a declined downtown, but they still try to make improvements. You came on a beautiful day! Thanks for the tour!

It’s possible to find decent older homes in Cleveland proper in the low 100s of thousands or as little as $150,000. Fixer uppers can be found for as little as $60,000. And you totally missed all of the attractions at University Circle on the near east side of town. Most of the suburbs are not in decline. Some of the outer suburbs are actually growing. There are even two ski resorts believe it or not which are on the edge of the Cuyahoga River Valley. There’s also good wreck diving out in the middle of Lake Erie. Cleveland is the largest sea port on the Great Lakes thanks to the St. Lawrence Seaway.

We KNOW what WE'RE talking about, ESPECIALLY if you have a loved one who lives in the area and has a limousine business I'm not saying this out of hate or disrespect, but on behalf of all limousine fans, I must tell this man in the video to GET IT STRAIGHT or SHUT his GATE! Not only is there one limousine business, but I heard there's at least 2 or MORE Plus they have those big fancy buses and even dedicated bus roads with DEDICATED LANES If I recall right I also saw BIKE lanes If I'm not mistaken, I think there may also be a parking garage because my friend with the LIMOUSINE has said something about using the parking garage There was a spot up there I wish I would've owned.... If I owned that lot I build a limousine only parking garage and call it "Pearl's Place" or "Pearl's Parking" It's an inside thing my chauffeur friend KNOWS.... The only thing that has not recovered and flourished in Cleveland since the city's low point in the 1970s is the population, although some of that is slowly returning with some empty nesters and young couples now residing in one of the many new Apartment complexes right downtown or over in the Tremont area and Gordon's Square.

Wow quite nice 👍 I’ve seen a few videos on Cleveland, but this was by far the best one I’ve seen on the city, in my opinion it should still be the largest and most popular city in Ohio, it’s even denser and designed like the NYC , And easily looks like a city that should still have 800, 000 to over a million in its city core which probably describes why the train 🚊 station and other areas have far less people than what you would see in a NYC, Chicago, Philly, or even Boston and in my opinion looks better than Detroit, Now Cincinnati on the other hand comes quite close, But again if not missioned before this was a great video on Cleveland, Thanks for sharing.. This is just a walk around tourist spots.. This is not a reflection of how people in Cleveland actually live and what most of them really do, regardless of their economic status. He says "a city in decline" but none of the decline or the reasons for it are shown or discussed.
@AtHomeAnywhere
@AtHomeAnywhere Ай бұрын
It’s true I am very much a tourist most places I go and I do walk a lot and just try and observe / share what I see. The ‘decline’ refers mainly to the population leaving due to the industrial jobs drying up. As far as I could see the downtown area of the city was pretty empty….but again I was only there for a day. I would like to visit again and I was very impressed with the architecture.

@0annonymous 11 күн бұрын
Yep, STRONGLY AGREED, people NEED to start doing their research before trashing Cleveland and other areas that are actually BOOMING Take it from a limousine fan who has actually known someone in the industry and has had his business in Cleveland.... He also mentioned something about a parking garage in Cleveland and parking the limousine in there, I saw it from the limousine window as we were going through the area In fact I learned there's multiple limousine companies up around Cleveland Plus they have those double buses that look kind of like two train cars When I was up there around Christmas one year, I saw one of these buses and I asked him, WHAT is THAT?! I kind of figured it was a bus but I wanted to make sure, because it was awfully strange looking Sure enough it turned out to be a two car bus We also noticed big planes leaving the nearby airport and we also walked across an unprepared ice skate rink area At one time we were up in Akron and it was also nice around Christmas time We saw someone on that skating rink and I like how Akron didn't need those bright pole lights when they had the tree lights all up and down the street

What’s your measure of a successful city? Crippling grid lock, inane housing prices and astronomical cost of living? Cleveland is likely the last affordable city in the country and I’m sure that won’t last forever either.
@AtHomeAnywhere
@AtHomeAnywhere 2 ай бұрын
I agree about the affordability. It is one of the most cost friendly cities I've visited. And there are a lot of great things about it. I was mostly coming at this from a historical perspective of the city and how at one time it was the 7th largest in the USA with a million residents (1950's). It has had a huge population decline which is always troubling, although I hear it is beginning to draw people back. I'm usually measuring cities against those from all over the world, but it's not really fair as I have my own biases like anyone else. But the criteria I focus on is public transit and public services, safety, walkability, green space and access to the outdoors, affordability is a really big one (and I'm thankful Ohio scores high there), and museums and entertainment. I'll admit I'm not huge on sports so I often leave that out. I hope that my video doesn't come across as harsh but just a visitor documenting and observing. I found the people I met to be very friendly and there are certainly more areas of Cleveland I didn't get a chance to see on this trip, but I look forward to a return visit to explore areas outside of downtown. I'm very interested in the Art Museum so that may be my next adventure there.

I’m not really familiar with your videos and presentation style, you’re not wrong about a lot of the things that you said about Cleveland, but the * by all the nice things you said about the city kinda bummed me out. Ie ‘beautiful lake, but don’t think I’d swim in it’ ‘theater district, but it’s small’ (it’s the second largest in the US after broadway in NY), etc. At this point Cleveland is a mid sized city that has all of the amenities of a top 5 city in the US, just on a smaller scale, and although I’m biased, I think that is something to be commended and a little more excited about. I’d love to tell you more of the stories about the places you visited while you were here, because I really do believe context might add to the experience.

Most of what I know about Cleveland came from a quick google search as I've never spent time there. I do travel a lot (here in the USA and abroad ) and I enjoy walking around cities and places I visit, usually commenting on things I see. I find myself comparing cities to one another but each is unique and has good things and bad things. I did really enjoy my day in Cleveland and would like to revisit and see more. Hopefully in the coming year I will find time to do that. I totally agree that Cleveland is a mid sized city with amenities of a much bigger city. I also agree that having a local perspective would be much better, especially when in places I'm not as familiar with. I hope in the coming year to have 'locals' join me in my videos to talk more about their 'homes' as it will give more context and a better idea of what life is actually like in different places. Thank you so much for checking out my video here and leaving a comment. I appreciate and look forward to feedback.
