Exploring different options for a layout design

This video follows the design process for a mid-sized HO-scale layout. The client elected to complete the design himself after hiring me to get him started in the right direction. although I don't normally present partial designs, this one seemed to have a lot of ideas worth sharing. I hope you find it useful.

As the base for a new layout, this design really spoke to me. Including how the levels come together from 0 and 4 to meet at 1.75, instead of one line forced all the way down to base level = Loved it. You are always full of great ideas - thanks for including this plan!

I like what you've done here! One person can run it and have it looking good, but it could also keep four operators busy. I'll have to buy some lottery tickets and keep hoping that I could have space for something like that.

Hello Peter, thx for sharing this one! I see only gains for us viewers. There is no need to restrict on full-designs. If not obvious before you are a talented specialist to refine on wishes that are unconscious. I admire your ability to comment on your conceptual approach on the fly and in one go and so well put that normally is impossible without any script. Nevertheless very keen on continuing the nscale layout next week!

No I don't use a script, but I didn't present it "in one go" either. Much of what I say, I have to repeat two or three times before it comes out well enough to use. Then I have to spend a couple of hours editing before I can upload it. I'm glad you appreciate the effort. Thanks for the comment.

Very good of you to present this design as many people have similar space constraints and you have shown a number of good possible design solutions. BTW Audio is the best quality yet. If you can achieve that in the workshop it would be fantastic!

Glad the audio is working out. I'm not able to get the same audio in the workshop though since I've not found an appropriate microphone that actually works. The one I ended up with (second attempt) is a big and cumbersome desk-mounted one.

These are what I had in mind. Select the one that has the correct receiver interface to your camera. Try an inexpensive one to see how they go...

Mhmm this beauty in N scale which that same foot print would look epic. Im more into prototyping but I see massive potential with this. Absolute mad genius.

Peter have you ever made a operating hump yard in ho scale ,,,,,at 73 yrs young this is gonna be my last and im gonna try my best on a hump yard they always fascinated me especially the enola hump yard during Conrail years,,,thank you Peter

Hump-yards don't translate well into models since you can't scale gravity. I have seen a couple in model form, but the operation is really not convincing. The physics don't work the same, requiring that cars come off the hump at about 100mph and smash into those already waiting.
