We love exploring smaller less-touristy places in every country we visit, and we had a blast in Eger, especially in the Valley of the Beautiful Women. If you come to visit Hungary you shouldn't miss this spot. We will definitely visit some other smaller towns in the future. If you have a recommendation let us know in the comments. Thanks for watching. - Brandon & Anja 😀

It is great that you love to visit less-touristy places, myself and a lot of others do too. How about you don't post videos about them online, so they can stay that way?

You should go around lake Balaton, lots of small towns and castles there. But avoid major places like Siófok. Those are touristy and only worth to visit when you'd want to just do a beach day. And even then there are better beach parts of Balaton you can go to. Or go to Siklós, it is on the south part of Hungary small town with lots of things to see and ofc it also has a castle.

My wife and I are in Eger now in February no tourist train up to the Valley of the Beautiful Women, unfortunately our navigation on our phones sent us on a big detour but finally made it. Stayed the night at the Mineret hotel near the monument and will sight see the town tomorrow and catch an afternoon train back to Budapest. Thanks for your amazing vlog. Greg and Joyce Boston USA

Oh no! That sucks. The first time we were in Eger (pre-KZbin days) we didn't even know about the train. We just ended up walking. We noticed people arriving by the tourist train as we arrived. At least there are a lot of cabs going in and out. I hope you both enjoyed yourselves! Lots of great, cheap wine. We have a lot of Budapest videos too, including a food video, if you need any meal ideas. Thanks for watching!

We love Budapest, but there are a TON of underrated little cities and towns around Hungary! Tourists need to get out of Budapest and explore the country a bit more. We lived in Budapest for about 3 years total (though two of those were Covid times, so it kind of prevented us from exploring a bit), and each time we visit a city, we were pleasantly surprised!

There are actually two types of trains to Eger at the moment. One is the double-decker called KISS. The other is the older FLIRT. FLIRT always takes two units, as the seating capacity is only half that of KISS. They run alternately on weekdays. Its departure time is usually 15 minutes later. This weekend there was maintenance on the track, so the schedule was changed. If someone were to travel by train: traditionally, the main schedule is changed around December 15, so this may change. It tends to change during the year, especially around Lake Balaton in the pre-main and post-season. You should always check the current information before traveling! Criticism is popular, there is a reason for it, but overall there are worse and better railways. 2:12 I think this is a recording from a previous trip. Because the details are not identical to any of the mentioned trains. Another fact of the Eger minaret is that it is the northernmost minaret. sheep = juh or birka. The young animal is the bárány ( lamb ). Did you know that there is an Eger castle in Pilisborosjenő near Budapest? This is a place where the scenes of the movie Egri Csillagok (The Stars of Eger ) were originally filmed. Egri Bikavér: There is another version of the story. The Turkish commander really liked the drink the servant gave him. He asked what it was and asked for more of it. The servant said it was the blood of the Eger bulls. If the commander found out that it was wine, it would have been a problem, since it is forbidden for a Muslim to drink wine..😉 By the way, it is made from mixing several wines, so the taste depends on the maker. It may be worth tasting more.
@wherearewe-yt Жыл бұрын
Yes, you spotted correctly that one of the scenes was a flashback to the trainride from Budapest to Szentendre 😊. We tried a few other brands of Bull's Blood wine and they are indeed quite different but all very delicious.

Next time you visit us in Eger, try wine cellar #6, not for the wine, but the host. She's an oldish woman and she's also their biggest consumer. Somehow wine cellar #43(Sike winecellar) is very unkown amongst tourists, but me and my friends always sit there if we go in the valley. Best wine in Eger. I'm speaking with 20years of experience in wine drinking, and i've probably tried all of them. If you want to have nice beer&food try HBH Restaurant.

The wines in Hungary dates back much further, as I have read, the first people to plant vineyards in this area and make wine there were the Romans, when present day Hungary and surroudings was a Roman province (Pannonia), long before even the Huns arrived. The tradition was kept after the Roman empire collapsed the whoever owned or lived on the land followed the Roman recipe and carefully pick the spots for the right amount of sun exposure and weather and the process of creating the wine etc. So in a way, you are drinking the wine made of the Roman recipe! 😉 Ave Imperator! Ave Roma! 😄

Good thing you started with beer, and then drank wine, it won't mess up your stomach in that order. There is actually an "idiom" (is it? xD) that we say in Hungary: "Borra sör, meggyötör. Sörre bor, bármikor." It losely means: "Beer onto/after wine, makes you suffer. Wine onto/after beer, anytime."

I watched some videos. Now at this egri, I realized that you are the first video makers with whom I also walk in these places. What I mean by this is that you don't just present the locations. Watching your videos is like being there with you. We would experience the events together. I have already been to all of the cities presented in the videos I have seen so far in reality, since I am Hungarian. Maybe this will help me feel that way? Who knows. Thank you for allowing me to visit these places with you again. In my life, I have never heard the name "Valley of the Beautiful Woman" in the plural. You mention the plural several times. I also don't know where the name comes from. Another word used for wife in Hungarian is "asszony". Often used in the word pairing of landlady. Rather, it expresses the wife who leads the household, holds the family together and the wife, who tells you where the direction ahead is. Knowing my Hungarian country, I am sure that the origin of the name of the valley is much more romantic than we think. Still, it's funny that because of the valley's connection to wine, a moment comes for every husband when it wouldn't hurt to have a woman by his side to tell him where he's going. 🙂

Thanks for the wonderful comment, and for sharing some history! We try to share our experiences, and the vibe of the city we're in, rather than just trying to create a documentary by repeating facts over and over again the entire time. Sorry, guys, for my honest sentiment, but as a (former) local patriot who was born and raised in the town (and has since lived in several European cities), unfortunately, this video fail to provide quality content about the richl potential of my hometown. Instead, it feels more like a teaser for mainstream tourists who want to eat and drink for prices lower than reasonable. There are several small enterprises (not even hidden or far from the histrocic centre) put "their soul and heart in " their business"as we say in Hungaran. . You chose restaurants and wineries that offer services to mainstream tourism, but the town has so much more to offer, both in terms of infrastructure and services like baths. I understand you wanted to please the core of your audience, and that's fair enough, but my sense of fairness and knowledge of the town compelled me to share this. Well, personally, I am really far from (your) mainstream and capitalist approach.
@wherearewe-yt3 ай бұрын
Luckily, we didn't make the video for you. Most of the people who watched this video are locals, and Hungarians alike, and you're the only one who has this negative mindset. No on forced you to watch our video.🙂
