Michelle, I always enjoy sharing time with you and I always enjoy your videos and company. There are so many horrible things happening in our country (and in my state in particular) that without quilting and peaceful quilting videos to turn to, I would be in worse psychological shape than I presently am. This was an interesting topic; but more than that, it was a visit with sanity. Thank you, Michelle!

Beverly you are so welcome! I am so glad you are enjoying my videos! News and keeping up to date of what is happening is important; however, it can be overwhelming at times. I am glad my videos provide some peace. I really love to quilt and it really helps me a lot to quilt!

I've been quilting for 35 years (sewing even longer) and as I'm listening to you I'm thinking no wonder the quilting industry is ao huge. We have a tendency to just think about fabric, thread and patterns, but those are the basics. We forget all of the other items we use as well, such as the ones you've listed.

Good discussion Michelle. Other than fabric, my number one consumable is thread followed by spray starch. I’m as thrifty as I can be with my quilting. Thank you for the great discussion on ways to save. 🤗

Great video. I began with garment sewing with occasional crafts so had 2 caddies of thread then accumulated a few colors for my serger. Since quilting I am using up all the multi colors for sewing scraps and crumbs only have a few left. Have lots of the white ecru and black. I am bad about replacing pins and needles. Want to get new pins the long and fine ones as well as maybe trying the clips. Love my Elmers. I am on the fence with the basting spray. I haven’t been making lots of quilts so justify the cost but use my stay flo with my newly purchased mister. The dollar tree is a good place to get many of the replaceable supplies.

Great reminders Michelle! I agree with you on every point! I use most of the consumable brands you mentioned - except the magic pins 😂. I do use very fine pins and they don't last as long as standard pins. One other consumable I use are things I use to clean my machine - like Q--tips (industrial brand) and tweezers (although they are long lived). Scissors need care or replacement and thread snips are indispensable- in my opinion, but also last a long time. One last thing is cutting mats. Dull rotary blades dull mats quicker, but mats need replacement to keep cutting accuracy. Thanks for sharing! Great video! ❤
@thesimplequilter74995 ай бұрын
You are so right about cutting mats! I have replaced more than one over the years!!! Scissors must be kept sharp or replace! Dull scissors adds so much more stress to the arm, hand, and fingers!! Great points!!!

Two of my favorite Aurifil thread colors for piecing and sometimes quilting are 2805 Light Grey Turquiose and 2835 Medium Mint. They blend well with many colors. Tula Pink recommendsthe 2835 for her fabrics.

Thanks for your insight on the things, we as quilters, have to have! I switched to the Magic Pins a couple of years ago and really like using them; they seem to be a bit thinner and sharper than the flat flower head pins I'd used for years. I have a few types of glues for fabric use, each with its own application - however, I find the generic washable stick glues are just fine for most things I need to be held in place whilst sewing. I am a thread fiend LOL! It must be all those colors I just cannot resist, and as such I'll never have to buy anymore thread for the rest of my quilting days! But I'm with you in that most of us really only need the neutrals and white! One of my fave 'blendables' thread colors to use as a quilting - not piecing - thread, that seems to blend with most prints I use, is a very pale bluish grey. Yes to sticky rollers! At our guild retreat a couple of years ago one of the 'fairy' gifts was a sticky roller, a big hit with most since 'the wearing o' the threads' is sometimes not wanted!😁 For the little fusing that I do nowadays I use Misty Fuse, it is so much lighter than most all other fusibles, many don't care for it as it doesn't have a backing paper, but you get used to it once you use it a few times.

Thank you so much for sharing! I have some quilt friends that prefer to use grey also!

Two must haves for me are “Crayola washable markers “ for kids. They are cheap & wash out nicely. I use them for marking my quilt patterns when longarm quilting. But - I wash my quilts. I cannot use them if quilting for someone else. And instead of Post It’s I found Ink Jet Labels (I use Avery brand) are way cheaper & work as well if not better than Post It Notes. You can buy all sizes.

@@thesimplequilter7499 I watch your videos everytime a new one comes out. I have LOVED the Harbor Freight items you have shown us & immediately went there & bought some of them.. you & your husband & son are fun to watch as well as great info given! I look at your videos to figure out how to destash all my stuff! I also use containers I buy at the Dollar store to keep my cut out block sizes or colors separated & use one of my ink jet labels on them to label them.

I have 4 pencil sharpers and none will sharpen caulk pencils without breaking the lead. And be careful where you mark your quilts with pencil lead. I have several quilts made more than 50 years ago that were marked on the quilting line with pencil. After multiple washings the pencil lead still shows. I love your ideas so keep your videos coming.

I used to have an Amazon link; however, I have not been able to find this on Amazon again. This container is a CraftMates Lockables 7 compartments 3XL. The 3XL is super important because they also make a 2XL. For me, the 2XL was not big enough for my needles. You can find this at JoAnn's and they are having a sale online until tomorrow. I do not receive any type of kickback from JoAnn's. I just wanted to share the info. These are great for sewing machine needles and sewing machine feet.

Oh man....those little clips..I think they are in cahoots with all those missing socks that disappear!!! I've used a small clear glass bottle for years. I'm constantly reminded to throw any "expired" pins, needles, & Rotary blades in there simply because I keep it in my line of vision and can SEE it often. Have you used those very pricey Guggenheim scissors? I don't know anyone that has them, who can give me a genuine opinion about them.

Oh my! There has been a sock monster in our house for years! We either now have a new clip monster too or the sock monster has expanded his palate! Lol! I have not tried those scissors, perhaps someone else will reply. Thanks for watching and sharing!
