Exploring Finnish Islands! HELSINKI ARCHIPELAGO Who knew there were SNAKES in FINLAND?
After a few days exploring the city of Helsinki: • HELSINKI FINLAND TOUR ...
and • TOP SIGHTS of HELSINKI... we take a boat trip from The Helsinki South Harbour to explore a couple of the islands of the archipelago of Helsinki which has roughly 330 islands.
There are plenty of boat tours to choose from and we decided to take the popular route to visit 3 islands. It was 12 euros per adult ticket which we thought was pretty good value for the hop on hop off island boat tour. We began by exploring the island of Vallisaari which was very picturesque but definitely had a few surprises in store for us, we decided to do the full lap of the island (the route that you're allowed to walk) and we thought we were out for a lovely relaxing walk/hike until we found a few unexpected hazards around the island. Snakes? unexploded bombs? Tree's falling in the path? A lot happened in just a few hours!
After a quick look on Google we think the snake might have been a beach snake which are common in this part of the world and are distinguishable by their yellow/orange cheeks. Thankfully they're not poisonous or generally aggressive (although this one was hissing at us a lot!)
We spent a few hours exploring this first island and then quickly made our way across the causeway which links a second island called Kuninkunsaare which had a beautiful tranquil sandy bay. However we had very limited time before the final boat of the day left and with no accommodation on the island we had to leave quickly to make it over to Suomenlinna.

A British couple from just outside London, England. We got married in 2018 and decided instead of a honeymoon we’d travel the world together for a year. We saved money and travel points, quit our jobs, rented our house out and boarded a one way flight. We started this KZbin channel to share our experiences with friends, family and anyone who plans to travel to the places we’re visiting. We leave TKT tips/facts on our vlogs and blogs to give information that we wish we’d had before visiting. We hope you find our content useful :)
