The snake you saw was a "grass snake" or a "ringed snake" as it also is called.....it's a non poisonous or toxic snake and very common in Sweden and Finland.....the viper is poisonous but it has a zick zack pattern on their back for identification .....nice video bye the way....

@@arihalttu8949 Adders can be also completely black, not all of them have zigzag pattern. It's difficult to recognize species of black variant from far. Eyes are always different, adders have red eyes with slit pupil while grass snakes have round pupils.

Nuuksio area has remained wilderness regardless its closeness to the Capital because it's rugged terrain (while beautiful, it wasn't well suitable for farming). It is pretty amazing to have a national park that close to the Capital.

That's 16:50 the symbol of Nuuksio Patk, the Siberian flying squirrel (Pteromys volans). It's very rare in the EU, only found here in the north-east corner and a protected animal. It's feared by the builders, they call it "the most dangerous animal in Finland". If some fresh flying squirrel poop is foud at the planned building site, the project will be halted right away :)

An other Finnish snake story, from my childhood in the Central-Finland countryside: I was 4-5 years old, a big animal lover. I found a half-dead snake on the road, crashed by a car and felt sorry for the poor thing. So I took the snake on a stick, took it to my mom so she could heal it. Well, mom didn't want to nurse the snake, she just screamed :D Later I captured some small lizards and took them inside to the house (new pets!), in a box. The lizards ran away around the house, the result: more screams :D

9:15 Best guess? Not a young black adder (as it might have been!) but yet another grass snake. This time without the typical yellow(ish) spots on the neck, yes, BUT with the typically wide head plates & rather slim body plus no visibly red eyes. Hehe: do I sound arrogant enough yet? Well that's because I'm jealous!! As a native Finn I've seen my fair share of adders + slowworms (in our summer cabin) but I don't recall EVER seeing a grass snake! AAARRGGH! Stop stealing all the snake sightings?? :D :D

Thank you for the Finland videos, I watched them all. You've done your homework very well eg. with the overlay texts about the places, buildings etc. You were extremely lucky to see both snake species living here in continental Finland. The HSL journey planner is the way to go! Even as a local (living in Kauklahti, well pronounced I must say) I sometimes use it to check the fastest way. Also love how all the public transit methods here are under one ticket, really handy! But I must say, that most of the bus services inside Espoo are slow. Maybe my only complaint with HSL. About Nuuksio, while not the prettiest nature park in Finland (thats just because theres so much good competition), its still very cool and being this close to the capital is amazing.

Yup, that's definitely a juvenile "kyy" or Common European Viper (vipera berus), the only poisonous snake in Finland. I've also seen a few of them in the wild and it's the only snake that's all black like that, even on the belly side. "Rantakäärme" (grass snake) or "tarhakäärme" (colubridae) usually have large yellow spots on either side of the head, a yellow belly and a greenish tinge to the top side of them. The juvenile vipers are actually more dangerous than the adults, because the juveniles don't know how to control the amount of venom they inject in to the victim. A bite can actually be lethal even to healthy adults without proper and timely medical care. You're lucky it was September so they're a bit sluggish already because they're getting ready to go into hibernation for the winter and mostly just hang out in the sun during the day to warm up.
