I remember there used to be a small farm there at Frankford and Academy back in the 70"s. I went there with my kindergarten class to pet and feed the animals. The man who owned it kept it a small farm until he died. Then his kids sold it off after he passed. Sometime in the early 80's, I believe. My grandparents lived on Frankford Ave. about 3 blocks north of that intersection. They passed back in the early 90's. We lived around the corner in Pennypack Woods. My father was a Marine in Korea. So we qualified for a house in there.

The PJP Marketplace used to be a Food Basics Supermarket. It closed up back around 2016. The Rose Brier Inn was located next to the Dinning Car where the Walgreen's sits now. The place all the way in the back used to be Rosewood Catering. The closed furniture store in the back used to be a Kmart. The Boston Market used to be a KFC. The strip where the Domino's Pizza is at used to be called Shelly's Plaza.

That McDonalds is about 60 years old and was the first McDonalds in all of NE Philly. Started out with the original design of double golden arches and a big sign on the avenue showing how many billions of hamburgers were served. Used to walk there by myself at age 6 to get a cheesburger, fries and a milkshake. Rose Brier Inn was right in front of the Dining Car and was torn down. The building behind was another catering hall run by Rose Brier. Pathmark was where the Adventure Park is going in. Also right there was Rillings bakery. Liberty Bell diner started life as a Roy Rogers. Not far from the Wawa at Academy was a Gino's Hamburger place and don't forget that the building where Metro Mobile was housed was where the first Gallo's seafood restaurant was which was so good that the line used to stretch all the was down to Mc Donalds. Boston Market used to be a historic home that was torn down, then it became a KFC. The Kings Highway bridge over Pennypack creek is the oldest stone arch bridge still in ise in America. Frankford Ave, the King's Highway, was also lmown as Bristol Pike. Main route from Philly to New York. You were actually in the Torresdale and Holmesburg neighborhoods of NE Philly. Thanks for visiting NE Philly...PS they are "Trackless Trolleys" Go Phillies!

@shadowdog50010 ай бұрын
@@miked.5089Why did it have a big barrel in back? I never ate at that location but I did eat at other Gino’s locations and don’t remember a barrel. Their sign on the pole out front sometimes had a big KFC bucket of chicken. The Gino Giant was much better than the Big Mack IMHO and they served KFC. I had my fourth birthday party at Gino’s. Gino’s was also my wife’s first job as a teen and she told me the employees hated doing birthday parties. LOL!

When I saw the title I thought maybe they finally knocked down the original Thomas Holme School House, the Lower Dublin Academy. I heard a story about the building, after it became a house probably in the 1900's. Bad story. It was a m/s; I don't know if it's true, though. I haven't found anything about it online. I was hoping you would at least drive past the house; I was thinkin' that you would likely not mention the story, though, as that seems to be a darker subject than what you normally talk about... I'm surprised that you didn't check out what's left of Lindenfield. They were talking about knocking it down back in the 80's. They were supposed to get it done in 2000 & it took them until 2012. I haven't been there in a while; but, last I saw it was a big park. It looked okay; much better than the post-apocalyptic wasteland that it had been when it was terrible...
