Oh yeah, the effing nanny scene. But I still think the arms reaching out of the chair in the first one is the most intense scene of both movies. Probably because there is hardly anything more comforting than a sofa chair and the filmmakers turned it into a death trap. Also, it's totally serious in tone and you don't see the outcome right away.

Kinda surprised that there wasn't more details on Extreme Ghostbusters other than it exists, it's an awesome series. Seriously when your series opens with a demon possessing one of the main characters, spreading a plague across New York and initiating an apocalypse, you know your series is awesome. Also awesome (and profoundly messed up) episodes include a monster that steals eyes, a giant eldritch abomination that nearly eats all of NY, the Grundel ('Nuff said), a guy who makes a wish for a bride and then promptly has a skinless woman in a wedding dress chasing him the whole episode, body stealing mirror demons, a group of xenobite knockoffs mutilating people left and right, a bag of runes that cause people who touch them to get hunted down and sent to a hell dimension where they're promptly enslaved and/or eaten...yeah I'm beginning to remember why I had so many nightmares as a kid. Whatever the case, good episode!

Ghostbusters 2 is rather inventive, and has a great heart at the center. It also builds on the logical, scientific approach of the first film. The "mood slime" is a cool plot device, and the way it's researched by Ray and Egon and ultimately turned against the villain who created (or at least utilized) it is fascinating. Leading to the moment where the Ghostbusters decide to turn New York from the armpit of America it was perceived as at the time and ignite the positive emotions of the people with Lady Liberty. And just when the 'Busters are at their absolute lowest, Vigo is weakened and ultimately defeated by New Yorkers singing Auld Lang Syne. Because that's what you do at midnight on New Year's Eve in New York City: put your arm around the total stranger next to you and ring in the New Year with a singalong.

+Adam Block Agreed. I always found the first film more suspenseful, but this one more frightening growing up. (Hell, even now as a 27-year-old adult, I think it's horror elements are quite strong.) The only really scary moment for me in the original was the Librarian Ghost. Everything else was played more for suspense/drama, mainly in montages. Whereas, this film actually made a point of punctuating several scenes with scary moments, and occasionally delivered a scene that was nothing BUT full-on horror. The Subway scene alone still gives me the creeps and the occasional nightmare... absolute perfect use of atmosphere thanks to the low lighting and suggestive camera angles that make the audience feel lost and isolated. The wonderfully eerie moment where Winston's voice isn't echoed, but instead responded to by a dark voice. Those freaky severed heads. And finally the train with it's howling whistle that almost sounds like a wailing cry. That scene alone was scarier than everything in the first film put together for me.
@williamhiers53488 жыл бұрын
I dunno. As a kid, the Terror Dogs were pretty, well, terrifying. Their glowing red eyes and horned, demonic appearance can still give me an occasional creepy feeling. And while I no longer find him scary, Slimer, or, as I called him, "the green ghost" (the name Tobin's Spirit Guide also gives him, interestingly), scared me as a kid, too, particularly when he rushes down the hallway at Venkman. In the sequel, I found Vigo creepy. The scene where Ray and Egon are developing the photographs of him and instead of the painting the photographs come out as twisted, demonic visions, was creepy and one time I made the mistake of watching the movie with the lights off and that scene came up. There was a thump or noise from somewhere in the house and poor little me was up like a flash to turn the light on, let me tell you!

I genuinely like this movie, I watched it more than the original since I had this one on VHS it holds a special place in my heart. Yeah, this movie follows some of the same beats as the first but they did interesting things that were different. The river of slime and the emotional reaction it has, using the statue of liberty as a vehicle and fact that they were down on their luck and discredited made it unique enough to stand on its own. This movie doesn't get enough credit for how good it actually was.

When I was a kid I liked the second movie better than the first simply because I had it on video tape so I got to watch it a lot more. I didn't realize until probably five years ago that so many people hated it. I even talked my husband into letting me name our newest kitten Vigo the Catpathian, and despite him (the husband, not the kitten) not even being a huge Ghostbusters fan, he likes saying "HE IS VIGO!". I also think Extreme Ghostbusters got a raw deal, and I feel bad because I was one of those people who wrote it off as a piece of shit without even giving it a chance. When I finally got around to watching it I really liked it, and I love seeing the characters pop up in the Ghostbusters comics. They even went so far as to introduce the Extreme Egon as Janine's boyfriend for a while, leading Egon to ask if she was trying to make him jealous. (And admitting to himself that it might be working.) I highly recommend the IDW Ghostbusters comic series to anyone who likes Ghostbusters, especially their crossovers with The Real Ghostbusters, and definitely their crossover with the Ninja Turtles. Unpopular opinion: I like both Ghostbusters movie but the second one was and is my favorite.

I think the first film is technically better, but GB2 is more "fun" and I probably watch it more often because of that.

Man I loved this movie and bought the toys with my hard earned allowance when I was a kid. As an adult I don't think it holds a candle to the first one, but as a kid I was frigging going insane when I saw slimer. Slimer was the coolest! The cartoon was awesome too.

I've never understood the hate for the 2nd one, nor understood the criticism that it was just the same movie again only with a baby this time.

I agree. this movie got a bad reputation for being a poor follow up to the original. However, while many claimed it tried to copy the first, it still have a lot of creative moments when you don't consider comparing it to the original. Maybe compare it to a modern day (I reluctantly call) comedy and you'll definitely see the huge difference, 20-30 years later, in how it oozes with creativity. One thing I also enjoyed is that Ernie Hudson was more used here than in the first. I always felt sorry for the guy so I was glad he had more of a role here. ^_^

as a kid found ghostbuster 2 to be much more scary than 1.mainly because of vigo.

Great video! You may want to mention that when Ghostbusters 2 debuted in June of 1989, it scored a record opening weekend of 29.4 million, only to have it beaten one week later by Batman. Still, for one week, Ghostbusters 2 held the record!

I remember being old enough at the time to see Ghostbusters 2 in the theatre and we had a blast! The first movie will always have a special place in my movie loving heart, but as far as sequels go, Ghostbusters 2 is pretty good.

I prefer ghostbusters 2 over 1, im sorry but they used the power of positivity to beat the villain, how awesome is that.

The last scene of this video isn't the only part where dan akroyd called Ernie Hudson by his real name. There was also that scene when the painting is hypnotizing akroyd and when asked if he was ok, he says " yeah, I'm ok Ern."

Nitpick: they didn't sue over the Ghostbusters name, they came to a legal agreement that allowed them to use the name.

I never understood the hate toward Ghostbusters II. I was obsessed with Ghostbusters when I was a kid and i thought GB 2 was awesome! I still like watching it. The 2016 reboot can kiss my ass tho.

Yeah! Nice to hear someone else say nice things about this flick. I've enjoyed it all along and have had friends who knew quotes from it when I met them, so it had some warm reception along the way. Anyway, thanks for giving it some kudos.

That's awesome that Egon called Ernie Hudson by his real name! I never knew that until today. Gotta rewatch both movies again. I was also a huge fan of the Real Ghostbusters cartoon. Thank you for this video.
@chunkylover53679 жыл бұрын
Agreed! I would even argue that there are some things that Ghostbusters 2 did better than 1. Although it was more geared towards children, it had some scary scenes. The pictures of Vigo burning while Egon and Ray were locked inside the dark room. Also, the scene where Ray was being lowered into the sewers and the bad slime tried to pull him in. Oh, yeah.. and that scene where they were investigating the old underground transit system and they were yelling to create echos... That shit was scary as hell. So, yeah, I definitely agree that Ghostbusters 2 was definitely a good sequel to a great movie. I couldn't have asked for more.

Wow. Didn't know that Max Von Sydow was the voice of Vigo, and that Jamie Lee Curtis was the narrator in the Escape -films. This is a good channel. I've had a fun afternoon watching your vids, and I'm happy to subscribe. I don't dare to watch the Fly II episode though. I watched the film when I was like eight or nine, and was horribly traumatized. It really fucked up my head. :D

the double irony is that Gosthbusters the videogame is quite literally a retread of the famous movies of the two movies, from the mash mellow man to a moving statue of liberty.

@MrJakeKale8 жыл бұрын
Great review, and I largely agree with you - Ghostbusters 2 isn't as good as the original, but it's still an likable follow up with plenty of good stuff to enjoy. Only thing I disagree with is the suggestion the ghost designs in 2 were not as scary. I'll concede there was a smaller pool of them compared to the original, but the Scoleri brothers and particularly the heads on spikes were pretty scary to me as a kid. Hell, the whole underground sequence outright terrified me!

Run DMC did the theme for Ghostbusters 2. Bobby Brown's "On Our Own" was just heard in the credits, though it was the only song on the soundtrack that I remember getting a music video.
