In the next film they should get closer to the source material. Although I don't mind the actor who played Flint, I think Josh Brolin would have been a better Flint. I think Shipwreck should be played by Chris Pratt. The G.I. Joe movies should be more like expendables, a cast filled with stars that act our favorite characters.

I contend to this day that the problem with the first film was the "accelerator suits" as they screwed up the film's pacing whenever they showed up. Then again they killed a guy with a forklift - whose name was probably either Rocky or Ken.

Not to mention that the character personalities for Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow seem to be reversed, at least until the end.

I remember watching the opening scene and they had this guy named Mouse and I thought, hey, they got Sledge (Joseph Mazzello, the Jurassic Park kid) on here! He had just recently been on the WW2 series The Pacific not long before and was my favorite part of it. I thought it was a great move to use him and was excited to see what the character would do. Then they killed him off within the first five minutes. What the hell!? Big missed opportunity!

Honestly, he's not even a bad actor. Just super miscast for GI Joe. He's hysterical in the 21 Jump Street films and Hail Caesar, super compelling in Foxcatcher, and overall pretty awesome in Logan Lucky and Magic Mike. Studios just had no idea what to do with him for a long while.

A friend and I actually saw this in theaters and the one thing he thought was hilarious was the whole Colton calling Lady Jaye Brenda all the time bit. I thought it was pretty funny too.

Tatum spoke negatively about the movie and even adding more scenes, he wanted out of the franchise. The delay was also used to re cut the movie, he can see a better cut on the “extended action” Best Buy exclusives. The delay was disastrous, it was the biggest contributor to ending the modern Joe Toyline, which the movie was designed to promote. The movie was rushed through production and moved up when Star Trek was pushed back, this caused toys to be canceled and movie toys based on very early concept art to be made, then retailers had to set on them with no film to promote them, when the movie finally came out, the first wave was rereleased and subsequent waves were required to continue promoting the film meaning the same characters got remade to better match the movie, and to save cost some canceled filler figs were thrown in, the whole on and off again problem with the toyline killed it, and it existed afterwords only as a limited tru exclusive while the Rock kept passing on returning for Joe 3, the line then was no longer be picked up as even a tru exclusive and Hasbro has said not won’t come back until the 2020 Joe film, which has been confirmed as a reboot.

Never played with/read the comics/knew anything about GI Joe growing up. Heard they were making that first movie and just knew it would suck, and then when it tanked I was glad I didn't bother to see it, but I saw Retaliation on a slow day a few years later when there was nothing else on at the cinema and I have to admit, I thoroughly enjoyed it! Not a bad little action movie at all.

I don’t remember much from Retaliation except that I hated it at the time. I loved Rise of Cobra and then seeing that the most characters from first were not returning made me mad. I was 13 at the time of watching Retaliation and I loved or hated a lot of things at the time but now that I pay attention more to movies and my nit picks have become less of a problem, I wouldn’t mind watching this again to see if I enjoy it now.

I think this is a lot better than the first,which does have some good things in it. I feel that this is a lot closer to what a G I JOE movie should have been,more new characters and better action. I do wish they had at least referred to the characters that weren't there/killed off in the Cobra attack,but my biggest problem is that Duke is killed,he was always my favorite character,and a major component to the comic and cartoon. I do hope that something can be built on this to make a really great third film,maybe including some other favorites like Dusty,Recondo,Alpine,Bazooka etc.

I saw this recently with my buddy on his huge 3DTV and I was pleasantly surprised. I never cared for the first movie, but this one was a lot better. The 3D effects that took 9 months to complete were great. They didn't shove the 3D effects down your throat. The Duke & The Rock's lil Call of Duty scene really looked and felt tacked on. Other than that, it was good. London getting destroyed was fantastic!

I kinda like G.I. Joe: Retaliation. Sure, it wasn't great but I liked it fine as a throwaway action movie. As for Sigma 6, I thought it was fine. Probably one of the very few 4Kids efforts that I actually tolerated. I liked Renegades, what little of what I saw from it, and on a different note kinda makes me miss The Hub, looking back in hindsight.

I tried to record this on USANetwork, but it failed because of a storm that came by. but seeing this video, I'm not too broken up over it. I honestly enjoy more of this film than the original, simply because of it's more realistic and more authentic take on the Joes and Cobra's. It's was as close as they could possible get to the original how and series, without it being campy or silly. I loved how they used creativity instead of CGI for most of the film, this meant they needed more effort involved and the film was better in my eyes. I think we can all agree: effort and talent > CGI, any day.

A little late to the party I know... but your research on the Blind Master was wrong. Blind Master was an important character in the comics, appearing a LOT. He was one of Snake Eyes' and Storm Shadow's trainers. He also trained Jinx and even Cobra Commander's son Billy. It's in the cartoon that the Blind Master is only mentioned, not the comics.

Sadly the only reason I didn't see this movie in theaters was because they delayed it! If it came out when they originally meant it i was living with my dad at the time and he and I were fans of the old cartoon and he was going to take me... During the time of the delay I moved out and was living on very little money and missed out on it's final release! Also, I hated Tatum and was fairly annoyed that its release was delayed to add more of the guy I hated! XP

Johnathan Pryce was in the first GI Joe film. What annoyed me with Retaliation was that they felt the best way to reboot was the supposedly kill off all the good guys from the first film. That was stupid in my opinion. I have a great idea how to bring back some characters they killed off off-screen, well I say great it could work lol. I like that they had the original GI Joe character in the film, shame they didn't do Action Man like originally planned. Although he could be in a third one

When I followed the production of this movie on the Internet there were initially photos of young woman with long black hair floating around. She was seen with the other actors of the movie chatting and walking around. So somebody asked her if she was the new Baroness. She replied 'I wish' and was never seen or heard of in connection with this movie. Sadly, I don't remember her name, only that she was a professional dancer? Can somebody shine a light on this whole matter? Was she hired to play the part but then fired for some reason? Why else would somebody appear on a film set?

I have yet to see both GI Joe movies, but I'll give this one a shot. The best way I can compare Channing Tatum is Keanu Reeves. He's one of those actors that when given the right material(namely, by talented directors), he can do some amazing things. However, when paired with a terrible director(Wachowskis for instance), he cannot manage to deliver a good performance despite the material. To be fair, there are very few actors who can do what I mentioned above. But even then, Tatum's acting shortcomings are very blatant like Reeves. Given he's playing Gambit, I'm personally fine with it. Doug Linman is a good director and hopefully(assuming Fox does not intervene too directly) can hopefully coax a fantastic performance from Tatum. He wasn't my pick, but I'm willing to give him a chance.

The reason the GI Joe films faired poorly at the box office is actually quite simple and something the creators should really have known about, and that's when GI Joe was first exported it failed big because nobody was interested in Team America saving the world. Then they re-branded it Action Force and changed them to International Heroes and it became a massive global success, all they had to do was take this approach with the live action films (it wouldn't have cost that much to change a few lines and some marketing images for the international release) and they would each have made another hundred million at least.

I have been a long time fan of GI JOE, and I loved Retaliation. I don't think the movie gets enough appreciation, and I certainly wish they would have let the director make a third film. I understand that a lot of people disliked that Baroness didn't return, that Destro and Duke was killed, and the Levitt didn't return, but really, look at the mess that The Rise of Cobra was and how it already screwed up Cobra Commander, Destro, and the rest. Retaliation did a great job of taking the shattered pieces of the first film and making a very satisfying sequel. The only thing I felt was super weak in the movie was Flint. He really should have had a larger role next to Roadblock, and he should have been played by someone...anyone else than the block of wood they did hire. The only other nitpick was Bruce Willis and his Barbera gag. It didn't make much sense and just wasn't funny. Retaliation was a major improvement over Rise Of Cobra, though I will say that overall Baroness, Snake Eyes, Destro, and Stormshadow were pretty good. The film just didn't feel like GI JOE at all. Retaliation did indeed feel like a JOE film. Track down the extended action cut on bluray, the definitive version to own. Lots of extra footage (not just action scenes), and an all around new cut that helps the film flow better! Oh, and Jonathan Pryce was GREAT as Zartan/President! He stole the movie, lol!

The Blindmaster was in the comics, but was only mentioned in the toon, which may have been what you were thinking. Pryce was in the first movie, and it directly picked up the plot thread that Zartan had replaced him. Yes Voosloo is technically in the movie but for mere seconds under an fx heavy shot. This film and its predecessor were also influenced by the Devils Due run of comics not just the marvel one. This one actually leaned more into marvel where rise of Cobra’s story is heavily influenced by Devils Due first story. Devils Due has also put Cobra in the White House and government but Stormshadow turning against Cobra was pure classic marvel.

GI Joe is one of those properties that transcends it's toy line. Most people only remember the 80's cartoon which was very much a "figure of the week" show. If they really want to make a film franchise out of this (and it seems like Hasbro does now) they need to get closer to the comic. The first movie should be an origin story that makes sense. With today's political climate Cobra Commanders origin as a domestic terrorist is completely believable. Get someone to play Stalker (maybe Michael B Jordan) and someone to play Duke and maybe Jeffery Dean Morgan as General Hawk. Have them recruit soldiers from various branches to fight Cobra. Show us Snake Eyes getting his face burnt off and donning the mask. You want fan service? That's how you do fan service.
