The independent palace has been to many names after 1950and before 1940 it prince Norodom palace

What Vietnamese government did is to imitate their big Russian brother. After Russian revolution 1917, St Peterburg was renamed "Lenin City" Leningrad in Russian. Grad in Russian means CITY. So Saigon was renamed Ho Chi Minh City. They all changed all the street names for political reasons but one name they really want to change but they can't is Saigon International aviation code: SGN.
