Exploring Horsetooth Reservoir

How's it going everybody in todays video me and Jerry head out to Horsetooth Reservoir to do some exploring of the lake! It was both of our first times being here so we weren't sure what to expect but we were still able to get on a few fish!
Equipment

That sucks, bro. Horsetooth is a cool place, but def a rough one to do in the john boat, because of the nature of the current in the main lake, but those coves and the inlet are money no matter what. Glad at least somebody helped you guys get back in. 🎣

Exactly haha the little John boat makes it a little tough sometimes but glad we got some help too!! & that's what it seemed like once we fished the whole area we said damn we should've just stayed in the cove😂 sorry about the late reply brotha

Amazing place for topwater action. 1st n only time I went I caught 20 on a 90 Loon Plopper.

Man no way I'm so jealous! It didn't seem like they were necessary crushing it but I mean damn we had two more juicy coves to get into that could've been holding groups! I gotta get back down there though that's awesome

@@fishingcolorado loads of little ones under 15" and even a personal best smallest. Mid June they are extra fired up. I only got into 1 cove but with the yak I could get pretty far back where boats can't reach and one rock wall. Action was non stop. Missed 2 times as many as I landed.

Yo guys welcome to Fort Collins! I only fish from shore but if you want consistent smallmouth, the bite on a white trout magnet is pretty on point. I cast and slowly drag across the bottom. The dams on the east side are where I’ve had the best luck

Yo FC, I am going to Chatfield 2morrow for some smallies. I am very bad at catching bass so I was going to ask for some advice and good lures to use. I am going on a raft with no motor, so I will proly be able to access deep water. Btw great video. Keep up the Awesome content!!

Heyy brother thank you so much!!🤜🤛 I hope you read this before you head out tomorrow but I would honestly target the rocks in the first boat launch and surrounding areas!! Smallmouth love to relate to rock structure so a deeper diving squarebill or crankbait could work well!! Other then that it gets a little tough to find offshore strucutr without sonar but hit the boat docks and early in the morning try some topwater!! Good luck brother🎣

I've tow many folks off that lake! The rangers won't do it because it takes away from their patrolling. One of my favorite lakes. Haven't been there this year yet but in the past all you have to do is hang at the inlet and you'll catch huge small mouths, trout (rainbow, brown) and tons of white bass.

I live by HT Res and if there's no one to help you next time, you can pull into one of the coves, walk up the trail into Lory State Park and you should have phone signal.

Damn you guys have Rangers on your lakes? We're SOL if we don't bring a radio and have no cell service. Try $325 for a tow out here in Jersey! Those rangers were awesome to get you into contact with someone, don't understand the hate when compared to the service out here which is non-existent unless you're sinking.

Yeah dude I'm not sure what they consider an "emergency" but we had a broken prop, no service and we were far af in a small jon boat! I thought they could have at least offered to tow us in until they got another call or something but I'll be back out there forsure haha

I believe that in the first cove where the boat marina is its wakeless only but after that I don't believe there's any restrictions!

Well I was thinking about going to Colorado to fish horsetooth buttttt If that the sort of way they treat people that need help. I’ll hold onto my $75 and $50 for a invasive species tag and the fishing license

Rangers wouldn’t help out, but referred you to a “tow service” which charges $75? Sounds like a racket! How much kick back do the rangers get from that? BS! Happy some good considerate people were there to help you out! Horsetooth rangers are 🍆

Yeahh I was definitely upset with that! Some people may not have $75 and like I said that lake was HUGE we could've gone 2 coves deeper and the entire time had no service! I'm not exactly sure what they consider an emergency but damn haha

They are Larimer County Rangers, mostly likely all temp Rangers.

@@fishingcolorado the government doing government things.. they used the gas to get all the way to you. Sat there yapping about how they can't help you and left. Seen you could've used just a tiny help. If there happenrd to be an emergency call, you guys would be completely understanding if they had to cut you loose and what not. They handled it like jack asses.
