⚠️ Elon Musk is the world’s richest man because he’s close to making full self-driving cars a reality (with Tesla FSD). He’s making sure #Tesla (#TSLA) has the best sensors, the most data, and the fastest AI. BUT there’s just one problem. #ElonMusk isn’t racing against any one company. He’s racing against ALL OF THEM. #Nvidia (#NVDA) is the world’s leading #AI company (and one of the best #stocks to buy now) and thanks to what they JUST announced, the race for full self-driving could be MUCH closer than you think. Want to know who’s REALLY winning? I’ll show you by looking at the science behind Tesla stock & Nvidia stock.

AMD has another advantage here. Their purchase of Xilinx enables FPGAs to be put into cars. Over the air updates can actually reprogram the FPGA so computations from the sensors are performed in hardware not software. I believe this is where AMD will sucessfully compete.

Great video! I didn't know a lot about Nvidia's Hyperion before this. I think Tesla will be plenty busy with their own fleet, they won't be in much need to make their system available to train others and clear up that 2/3 reduction issue unless other companies are desperate for it. It will be interesting to see if their pursuit in lidar as well as cameras, etc pays off. Hypothetically, do you think if it does and the safety and reliability of their system outperforms Tesla in the future, Telsa would consider acquiring/ merging with them?

No. Tesla doesn’t want to team up with anyone unless they are will to play by their rules, because none of them move fast enough. NVIDIA is so far behind Tesla it’s not even worth talking about really. Real-world is all that matters. NVIDIA hand tagging is what Tesla has been doing for years. I’m sure they will get their one day, but imagine working with GM and the bureaucracy of a single OTA update? Who’s fault across multiple fleets of OEMs? One crash and they all will get blamed with tons of different sensor sweets etc… sounds like a f$$king nightmare.

They need to add something equivalent to experience in humans. For instance, in the winter we make allowance for slippery spots. We know that slush builds up along the edge of roads. We drive on the low side of curves in case we slide upwards. We slow down sooner and follow at a greater distance. There is a big difference between San Diego and South Dakota, so this data needs to include location as well as time of year, etc.

Where did you get the Netflix media library total size figure of ~72TB? I'm guessing your figure is massively low. Not to mention that the media on Netflix servers is probably not as compressed as what the user gets in the final stream. It gets compressed before streaming to the end viewer but the source media has to be able to accommodate the various ranges of quality/resolution that customers require. Obviously they have many clones of their media library on many different arrays across multiple datacenters but still 72TB seems way low to store the entire library available on Netflix.

Your vision convinced me that there isn’t any competition for Tesla’s FSD technology. Thank you . Assuming NVDIA come up with their own version of FSD for high ways. NVIDIA still needs market their product and sell it to the EV maker. But they need to prove that it works! They will end up asking EV maker to spend 5K if not more on equipment that is needed to run NVIDIA’s FSD . That is a huge risk for the automakers. All of these EV makers except Tesla are losing money already before the added cost for the required equipment .In addition they have to wax NVIDIA for the use of their FSD software and hardware. If they In my opinion NVIDIA after spending billions their end product will be “ Driver Assistant software” at their best.

@faramarz mokri, You've got it backwards. Tesla's FSD will be a massive disaster, and they are prolonging the inevitable shift to adding additional sensors, which the longer they delay, the more likely will lead them to disaster and perhaps bankruptcy. Every year Elon says "FSD will be ready this year" and despite numerous Moore's law generations of computation doubling, it's yet to come true (hint: it'll never happen). If you know anything about AI and machine learning, the output of any AI system will only be as good as the data it was trained on. Quantity of data is important, but quality of data is substantially more important, and you don't need to train your AI nearly as much if you have higher quality data. If you want to train an AI to predict housing prices, having information on a billion houses is better than a million houses, but if all the data you have is, say, age and square footage, it's a lot worse than having even a thousand houses where you have many more metrics, such as location, crime rates, population density, median income, etc. Humans rely on just sight for driving, and they are imperfect drivers. Certainly AI relying on vision might be able to outperform humans, but it'll still never be as safe as a car with sensors that provide you with data where vision alone fails. Hence, no matter how much data Tesla collects, those efforts will only achieve diminishing returns at improving safety/performance, and will ultimately fail at preventing truly unexpected safety scenarios. Sure, extra sensors cost more, but when it comes to safety, I can't imagine anyone willing to skimp a few thousand dollars on a car that will last them years and could potentially save their life (and whose resale and scrap value will be higher because of the additional hardware). Assuming Mercedes does release their first self driving car in 2024, then the first consumer car to have true, level 4 full autonomy will not be a Tesla.

Massive amounts of data transfer to cloud and heat generated from that? Latency and reliance on cloud 24/7 , what if data delayed while transfer to the cloud and back to the car sensors? What if 5G network got some disruption at that moment? Fatal accidents may be in seconds!! Massive energy and power consumption from millions of self driving cars in the future plus energy from crypto mining?? There must be another smart innovative solutions for autonomous driving away from cloud, data centers and super computers and more environment friendly and sustainable!!!

Hussein, these engineers are literal geniuses, you can't honestly think they're putting cars on the road that kill people when the Internet goes out. Self-driving systems don't rely on Internet data for their moment-to-moment driving. Their on-board systems have to be able to handle their immediate environment, and that of their route. Internet connections are used to do things like initially plotting a route that uses real-time traffic data, or downloading new software upgrades. Teslas can use their autonomous driving features anywhere, connected to the internet or not.

I totally get how lidar and radar can see things that cameras never will. But it will cost a lot of money to have all that hardware in a car, and to maintain it all. Tesla already has a huge advantage in terms of price to produce a car, they do almost everything in house, pay less for batteries, etc. I think that many auto makers will try to use Nvidia for their cars, but the price will be unsustainable.

I am not convinced that being the first to have a self driving car means much; one has to be able to scale that up rapidly, and Elong has the factories already. And while self driving cars seem slick to people, I am not at all sure how the insurance business is going to view them. And while we are on electric cars, the three grids we have all all in need of updating - no one seems eager to put a current dollar figure on that cost, but they rather go about it in increments. And after that is done, no one seems able to estimate how much additional demand for electricity will be created - but given the current electrical grids have problems delivering what we now need, there is a massive hole in the planning for this "wonderful" future. California, with about 4.5% of their vehicles being plugins has asked (not yet mandated) that people not charge their vehicles between 5 and 9 p.m. There also have been rumbles that people who have either bought or leased an electric car have a significant return to gas vehicles on the next round, something that is not widely addressed.

Musk SAYING practical robo-taxi level FSD will be here "real soon now" is different than it actually happening. Musk can call FSD "better than human drivers" all he wants, and claim that will happen real soon now, but I'll believe it when I see it (convincingly and consistently). And I say this as a long term Tesla shareholder who thinks things like data and trends and credibility matter.

and without it ramming the cars into overturned semi trucks. Also, why hasnt there been more backlash over the responsibility dodging from Musk in the fact that the autopilot feature turns off right before a collision so Musk can say that autopilot wasnt in control of the car before the collision?

The problem with auto driving systems as I see it, It will , Like there are finding in pilots that Using autopilots diminishes a pilots skills and AUTOPILOTS Fail at the most inopportune times, Leaving Pilots with diminished skills to execrate the most difficult part of any flight LANDING in severely reduced flight conditions.

Nvidia needs real world driving. With the competition having just 25% EV marketshare, it’s not going to matter.

I accidentally deleted my post. Anyway, the gist….great video but Alex missed a huge disadvantage for Nvidia. Nvidia requires a massive amount of power compared to Tesla chip. This results in less range for the EV and a huge expense in energy for the supercomputer. This is a massive negative for the Nvidia solution to solve FSD for anyone trying to compete with Tesla. Any comments?

Wow. If the car is running a simulation as well as cameras and knows the road long before it reaches it, the time will come quickly when there's no way a human driver will compete.

Great video. One thing to keep in mind; LiDAR does not work in rain or snow, as laser beams bounce off from droplets. Tesla builds a generic solution that works in all circumstances and everywhere.

You may be looking at it like Apple and Oranges. LiDAR isn’t meant to replace the generic solution (Tesla’s Vision FSD). It’s simply an addition going alongside the os( or any other OEM Self driving software). With all the neural engine working and running in real time… LiDAR would simply function as a map that’s pre projected, seen and known to the vehicle from far distances away. The software fills in all other gap(s). Hardware and software are both needed to work in sync. I strongly believe There’s still a lot of hesitation with Tesla fsd vision currently, and it’s also a lot of data transmitting at once in real time. There’s latency
