An overnight trip to Inis Mór (Inishmore) with my Brompton bike and tent. This island is one of my favourite places to spend time - there are so many interesting places to visit but it is the feeling that this island evokes that makes it truly special. Some of the places explored included: Poll na bPéist (Wormhole), Dún Dúchathair (Black Fort), Na Poill Séideáin (Blowholes/Puffing Holes) & Tigh Nan Phaidi Cafe.
I caught the ferry from Rossaveel in Galway - www.aranislandferries.com/ and you can also catch a ferry from Doolin in Clare - doolinferry.com/. Aran Island Ferries are the only ferry operating in the winter months.
Some Gear Used:
Tent - MSR Access 2
Mattress - Thermarest Neoair Xtherm
Sleeping Bag - Rab Neutrino 600
Front Bag - Large Brompton Borough Waterproof Bag
Rear Bag - Brompton Rack Bag
Drone - DJI Mini Pro 4
Action Camera - Dji Action 4
Music - Epidemic Sound:
Himalayan Moon - Aerian (Intro and 2:38, 14:46, 16:55, 22:48)
Mountain Solitude - Moorland Songs (4:06, 20:17)
Somewhere In Between - August Wilhelmsson (5:54, 9:18)

MIRIAM! You rock star! Aw what a lovely film... massive bravo. So lovely to see this, I LOVED this!!! The shot of you getting your bags over a fence made me laugh ahh that is me!! I loved the image of you sitting in the tent door, looking out at the big lovely world..... I kind of felt that was me too, I loved that shot. So brave of you to do your first chemo ride in such short cold days. Brilliant of you. At least when it was me I could start in July! easy peasy! Aw I hope your ride made you as glad as I felt (feel), I had been so down and despairing having scans and waiting for results and having an op and stuck and everything black and then told I had to do chemo again and more hard hard days stretcing and I hadnt even wanted to look at my gear I felt so despairing, but then I thought well if I can still do little rides even teeny tiny ones that will make it feel different, and be me again. I remember I felt so happy just getting my gear out again, I couldnt believe I was doing it but I made a little pile of gear and then whilst I had each treatment cycle, did little preps to the pile and I knew was going to go out... even the edge of london where I was felt soooooo amazing it is amazing, I was sooo happpyppppyyyy, each time... Hope you continue to feel good and strong and have got a little pile ready for the next trips and maps to stare at and dream if sometimes you feel weak and rubbish I used to do that, and hope you take strength from the support us all here who love what you do xxxx

Feeling anything but a rock a star Susanna - but I'll take it 🤩 I didn't have chemo my first time round, just a lumpectomy and radiotherapy. This time round its chemo first and a definite mastectomy afterwards but I haven't had the conversation yet with the surgeon to determine if its a single or double considering my previous diagnosis with the other breast. Possible radiotherapy then and also a targeted treatment for 12 months (I've a HER2 Positive tumour). I also need to decide whether I want to go the reconstruction route. So...its all consuming as you well know and this little trip provided a helpful opportunity to focus on what I really enjoy. I ended up missing my chemo session this week as I picked up a gastro bug and was floored on the day I was due in the hospital so they told me to stay away. I spent 36 hours in bed and feel much better now - everything got knocked back by a week so hopefully I won't have any more of those setbacks. Those shots you picked were definite traits of your videos too for sure, I always recognise the effort and ease you portray 😊 Right now there isn't another video I want to make - the video of Inis Mór was literally in my head for 2 years so an urgency came to do it now! I've nothing else that I feel drawn to video yet so we'll see when that urge arises again 🤞 I really appreciate the amazing KZbin support that has come my way to remind me of the lovely things in life and and pleasure I have with a camera and with those watching my little creative outputs 😎 Delighted to hear you have some editing planned for the next while!! That should inspire my adventure and creative juices again too!! Thanks for your lovely message Susanna - your rock chick status lives on!! xxx

Oh Miriam I am so sorry that this is what you have to go through. Sorry you got that gastro bug. Argh the last thing you need. Hope the next round has been going OK. I know what you mean about all consuming. A whole world of its own to get to grips with that I never wanted to be part of. But god so many people are arent we, sadly. About HER2, my first time round was HER2 positive too actually, and ER positive. This time, just ER positive apparently. A few years after my first mastectomy, I had a second one, to reduce risk. I didnt bother with reconstruction. That was what I decided to do. It is good they have all these options. Actually if I had had reconstruction, I would prob not have been able to feel the new lump that I had recently. So yeh I am glad I didnt bother about it. So grateful that I have access to all these things through the NHS, I know I am so lucky compared to many peoeple in different places. bla bla I better stop writing! Yep you rock! Thank you again for the gorgeous Inis Mor film so inspiring and gentle and wild and beautiful! Sending best wishes! xxx

Thanks very much Susanna for sharing your treatment journey, I appreciate that a lot ❤️ I was ER pos the first time round also and did 5 years of Tamoxifen. So crap that it developed again for you following the mastectomies - the reality of risk statistics hit me when I when your message. Like you said, the availability of treatments can make outcomes so different. Life certainly is fragile and nothing like that reality check hitting us in the face to remind us to smell the roses (or tent fabric) when we can or think of it. Wishing you the very best today and I look forward to seeing your recent adventures!! xx

Hi from Australia. Loved this video and your photography skills, your bravery and your wild adventurous spirit. My chemo journey was 7 years ago. I cried when I read your diagnosis...I was in complete shock. What can I say...I admire both yours and Susannah T’s brave “nothing stops me” attitudes. I’m in awe of you both. I’m 75 next month so I don’t believe I’ll physically visit the haunting beauty of Ireland, so thank you for bringing me a voyeuristic shared trip of your adventure. I send you courage and a BIG hug...stay strong and of course I wish you a full recovery.

I had a blood cancer and, after 7 wonderful, grateful years, I have checks 4 monthly. That tells me my friendEMY is likely to return. I live opposite the ocean, with wild Bush in front of me, kookaburras nesting, (check out a kookaburras dawn laugh) lavender in my garden with native and blue banded bees on it. I kayak with a Prijon Marlin ..did 19.5 Klms recently and ride my ebike and organic garden. Life is very altered to me preC days... less energy, more selective of the energy I allow into my world... but I am supported by loving people...I feel blessed to have had those years. I wish you many wonderful years ahead and hope that you are supported by loving, caring relationships. I love your cheeky smile as you set off on another adventure. I just wish I could send you photos of the tropical, wild beauty of where I live...the walks in the National Park, the vistas of white flannels flowers, the whales migrating. Off to learn how to play croquet today. Keep smiling and being cheeky and hatching another adventure. Xx

You clearly love your home and describe it so beautifully! 😊 I spent 9 months in Australia in 1999-2000 and I've still very fond memories of my time there and the wonderful sounds, smells and people that I came across. Maybe I'll venture there again some time! Like you, I'm a lot more selective about my energy in recent years. This is my second rodeo with cancer and since 2015 I seemed to lose interest and motivation for foreign travel and have wanted nothing more than occasional nights away on my own to see parts of my own homeland that I have yet to see. It is still enthralling me until now anyway...hopefully I'll keep wanting to hatch adventures and create memories with the camera while I'm able! I will imagine the wild beauty of your surroundings but of course it won't come close to it! You are very lucky by the sounds of things!! 🤗

Great to see you out on the Brompton again, it's so cool how you can stash it so easily. I really enjoyed your video and it's great to hear that you're doing well with chemo. I really hope that you can keep getting out when you are feeling strong enough. Your time spent in Co. Down sounds amazing. Hopefully you can find a little cottage on Inis Mór to spend a summer in. That would be amazing, imagine that, waking up there every day and walking along the coast. I was thinking to myself as I watched you cycle past the houses, how lucky those people are to live in such a wild and beautiful place. Love it, take care 🍀

Cheers Jason! Very glad I felt able for it - there is a rhythm to the treatment in terms of when I feel well enough for activity...hopefully I'll continue to have those windows when I'm able for anything! Absolutely - that cottage will need to be rented at some stage. I'm not going to live out my days and deny myself that opportunity - thats what renting the cottage in Co Down was about but this other dream will need to be honoured too in time! 😉 Thanks so much!!

Your best yet if you don’t mind me saying so. Hard to say exactly why, just the heart and soul of the whole thing I think. Stealing your chance like the bird in the bread basket. Raw enthusiasm delivered to camera in a manner that clearly loves if we see this place as you see it but also cares precious little about anything less valid in the moment of this trip. What better reason to be there. Uplifting. Belter of a video. Those who have to fight adversity in life don’t just stand to win for their own good but are also a huge inspiration to those who may worry how they themselves will stand if they ever have to fight too. 1 in 2 of us will get cancer. We need all our hero’s. That’s perhaps why ‘your little story’ as you called it and this video is important. Respect to you Miriam.

Stealing my chance like the bird in the bread basket 😂 You've such a gift with words Robin! I had a friend over last night who always comes over when I post a video to watch it with me. We then watched 3 of your videos on the TV and she (like me) was blown away by what you do. I have huge respect for what you create and how you package it - you inspire me greatly too! I don't have your gift of expression, yet I feel inspired to find those words too - if not for others, for myself. I was blown away by what Susanna Thornton did on her trips when on chemo and it definitely inspired me to realise I might be able to feel well enough to do that too. Chemo is very strange and it's hard to describe the physical experience of what its like...and of course there are so many different types of chemo and the variation of how ones body will respond. But you're right - to know that you might be able to still get out and about every now and again is a powerful message that I heard too 😊

Another beautiful post, with amazing, rugged, and barren landscapes. Definitely one of those places where a drone is needed to really show the scenery off. I'm so glad that you're doing well, and not washed out by the chemotherapy. Watching you smile away, whilst rattling down the rocky lane, warmed my heart. It's so nice to see you doing what you love. I do hope you enjoyed this trip as much I did watching it. @@MiriamKennedy Love your videos Miriam you have a lovely aura around you that gives out ease, strength and grace and I give you much respect and sent support for your good health. I visited my island and the other 2 some 8 years ago, was wondrous to see the other 2 at last. I always try to visit other islands when last abroad, guess it must be my being born on an island thing!!. Sorry the unpredictable weather halted your time there, I got soaked on InishMean but loved it even more as I lay in a field up against a stone wall getting damn wet lol. Not religous Miriam but call myself spiritual and always feel that sensation on those islands, more so when the majority of tourists have gone home and you can feel in touch with the serenity and deemed isolation of the surroundings. Real glad to hear your doing very well now, stay good lady. If your ever in Nottingham to come say hi and I'll show you around Sherwood Forest et al Take great care now. What an amazing video Miriam? We don't have anything like that here in New Jersey, just highways and cars. But this video has really touched me. I'm going into my 4th chemo session and lately it has been draining my energy. Because of winter coming and the shorter days I've been doing more walking than cycling and like you the nausea doesn't always make it easy. But this video is wonderfully motivating, God bless you Miriam! I hope everything keeps going well for you and thank you again for this video!

So sorry to hear you're walking a similar path Doug...no pun intended with walking over cycling! For my first two treatments I noticed walking and cycling were helping the nausea (it seemed easier than sitting anyway) and then for the last 2 treatments, both walking and cycling seemed to increase the nauseous feeling 🤕 My energy has been wiped also at times - I feel flat or something rather than tired but I'm unable to do anything when its like that. I hope you get some sections where you bounce back too 🤞 I literally feel normal today but in 3 days time I'll be getting hit again and who knows how I'll be. Thanks so much for your message Doug and I hope you get some breaks along the way too to make it a little easier. Take good care and I'll be thinking of you too from here!! ❤️

@MiriamKennedy Thank you for writing back. The walking and cycling and generally being active do feel better than sitting, though not always pain free. But I have only 2 more 3 week sessions until the follow-up visits. I hope your next treatment goes smoothly, take care! Doug.

Hello, mise arís. I forgot to mention that about 3 years ago, my wife and I visited Inis Mór, and went to all those places also. We stayed in a B&B, and, even though we hired bicycles, we spent a lot of time walking, about 40,000 steps on the day we visited Poll na bPéist and the blow holes, as it took us a while to find them, and we took a "short cut" back to our bikes, also picking up a couple of ticks on the way. I share your wonder about the Aran Islands (I have yet to visit Inish Meáin, but intend to). Slán. Pst

What a cool video. I've been there with my wife last year (profile picture is from Inis Mor). We hiked all of the Aran Islands on different days. You took it to another level with the Brompton and camping tho :D I get the love for them. It really is a special place. As soon as we set foot on the first Island I said, that we have to come back one day and stay for longer. My favourite was Inis Oirr tho, as it was least visited and felt the most remote, but the other two are more ideal for biking. All the best for you, safe travels and hope you are doing better now.

Thanks so much Matti! Wonderful that you’ve visited all 3 of the Aran islands 😊 My favourite is Inis Meain as I found that the least popular on the tourist trail and was definitely quieter but maybe things have changed as it’s over 30 years since I was on Inis Oirr - it used to get a lot more traffic than Inis Meain even though it’s smaller. I do plan to visit Inis Oirr again though for sure! Love this video. Spent several Easters in the Aran Islands practicing my Irish as a teenager. Good to see they've not been improved out of all recognition. I remember wandering for hours through the stony landscape without ever meeting a soul. Happy memories. Soul refreshing in fact. Thank you

Thank you Dawn! Lovely memories to have from your teenage years, hopefully practicing your Irish wasn’t a chore either 😉 Like you said, the landscape has maintained a wildness that even the hoards of visitors in the Summer months hasn’t impacted. Such a great place to visit and spend some time. Thanks again!

Hey Miriam 👊 brilliant film and beautifully edited 🎥 . I loved the cairns ❤ and that worm hole thingy ma jig WTF !! how did that happen, I’ll google it later. Great to see you back out doing what you love 🥰 if I don’t see you for a hike have a happy Christmas 🎄 🎅 ❤

Cheers Mark!! It was great to get away to do this trip - I loved it 😍 So many interesting things about this island, the wormhole and the other blow holes really are amazing - I’ve seen footage of the water spewing out through them but haven’t been there to see it in those kind of conditions to date. There is a theory that the wormhole is man made but most of the Google info will say that it’s not - I don’t know 🤷‍♀️ Have a great Christmas yourself and Mark and I might catch you for a hike at some stage!! Laying low at the min but hopefully I’ll be able for some more outings in time 😎 Have a good one!!

Tremendous video! The drone shots were amazing! The scenery is un-worldly. I am so glad you were feeling well enough to pursue this adventure and take us along. Thoughts: with skilled folk as yourself taking drones and cameras and such, I'm much less inclined to bother. Less expense, less weight; but do you find that 'taking us along' really does take the place of a partner on the trip? I was going to get after you for not having traffic lights on your bike and then make it a laugh - how wonderful to have (apparently ) ZERO traffic with which to contend! Except maybe some errant donkeys. Chin up, stay the course, best to ya.
@MiriamKennedy
@MiriamKennedy 8 ай бұрын
Hi there!! I really don't feel particularly skilled with the drone at all - there are some settings on my drone that allow for some of my shots without me having to control it. I think the biggest skill is 'nerve' and that has come with losing 2 drones I must admit 🤭 I don't think the camera takes the place of a partner on the trips to be honest. My primary interest is in solitary camps with no camera - however bringing the camera has opened up this wonderful community to me and some creative juices. I have quite an uncomfy relationship with the camera...part of me thinks its nuts to be filming any of my trips and on the other hand there is this lovely connection that happens with others when I do it! So by balancing it out and doing lots of solo trips with no camera I feel a bit more comfortable bringing the camera and playing with this other interest of creativity and virtual connection. Hopefully that doesn't sound too evasive. Those donkeys are treacherous aright 😂😂 So nice to be on quite lanes and roads!! Thanks very much for your message 😎
