Wildcamping with a Brompton - Sheep's Head Peninsula, Ireland

An overnight trip with the Brompton to explore the Sheep's Head Peninsula in West Cork. I started this cycle at Gerahies and cycled to the lighthouse at the tip of the peninsula on the first day (24km with steep hills and passing through Ahakista & Kilcrohane). On the second day I went back in the direction of Ahakista and finished at Durras (27km and a lot easier than the first day). Even while overcast and under heavy fog on Day 2 this was still a really stunning location to visit and the cloud cleared to allow great views of the lighthouse and the form of the peninsula from high in the air with the drone. A big thanks to Stephen and Eoin for the laughs, friendship, great food and transport!

Awww Susanna 🙁 I certainly never imagined I'd be using 'Just Do' in this way...I was very aware of our conversation about it though when I included it. So lovely to feel your genuine emotion and love. I've had a few friends cry with me about it in the last week or two. I've possibly been hardened/created defences & questions about death along the way which keep me curious and not too freaked out for now. You know whats to come and I'll have a few things to face that I didn't experience the last time so we'll see how I respond. My sisters death and my diagnosis in 2015 brought incredible gifts to my life in terms of the love I received and the overriding sense was a heart opening like no other that I've experienced. With this diagnosis, a similar thing is happening so far and the KZbin 'reveal' has helped the process by making it all real again while I was in a 'limbo' period. I truly hadn't imagined the lovely support and genuineness that would be reflected back to me ❤️ I work with the health system here in Ireland so I feel extra looked after (despite all the issues with the system too!) I reckon there will be many positives in this whole experience (again I could be talking crap and we'll see if I still have that perspective after a number of months) 😇 How I witnessed your journey and the sense I had of how you were responding to your circumstances has fueled my belief that I've no need to make any drama out of this!! 😉 Thanks for everything so far!! xx

Well your message gave me plenty of laughs!! 😂 Hope that mouth and those knees heal quickly for you 🤞 Thanks so much for saying all that you did - you picked up exactly what is is that I'd like to convey of the feeling I get from these solo trips. The music is really my tool to do that so I spend quite a bit of time trying to find music that evokes that sense for me that I can possibly use. I think what I ate on this trip was my own homecooked food that I had dehydrated. Its not as good as though I cooked it fresh but its honestly so much better than something I'd buy from a packet. I'd give it 6.5/10 for normal taste and following a days work out it increases to 8.5/10! 🏆🥇 I'm feeling very supported and lucky by all these virtual friends coming out of the ether! Awww Sian - your message was so lovely to read! What a magical place for you both to become engaged to be married - (as I write that, it seems a weird term to say - engaged!) Did you ever get yourself a Hubba Hubba by the way?? I still love mine - it has its limitations in wind and you can definitely get much lighter tents but its a winner in my book! I won’t ask whether you’re considering buying a Brompton yet 😂 Shame about the mist at your proposal setting but your husband must have ticked many boxes and no doubt still does 😍 Thanks aswell for your good wishes - I’m feeling very good to be honest. I just had my third chemo session today of 12 and the truth is that I haven’t been beaten up too much to date. Some nausea after my second dose and a little diarrhoea but at a minor inconvenience level I’d describe it, let’s hope it stays that way!! Thanks again 🙏

I had bladder cancer was lucky in that had one tumour and it was removed and had not spread. I do have to have a yearly check up. Only just found your channel and love your videos. Maybe they might allow a primus in the ward and a dehydrated dinner simmering gently in a pot so that you might hold the warm pot in your hands, blow the rising steam gently into your face and sit high upon an Atlantic shore again on a chilly morning for a moment. Hi Miriam, what an incredible courage to share your diagnosis. It’s wonderful that you remain full of positiveness and I am looking forward to more adventure in the future. I was flying Sheep’s Head a few years back. Taking off from Seefin on the east side and had a lovely flight. The mountain has many mini plateaus. I was lucky with sunny weather and incredible views of the land and sea around. I always promised myself to return as there was more to fly, perhaps a XC back to Bantry.

Thanks very much Peter 🙏 Feeling very strong to date - 2 chemo sessions done and 10 to go…back in tomorrow for another one. Side effects have been very manageable to date and haven’t taken too much out of me, fingers crossed that continues! Still managing to walk and cycle and it’s definitely helping to get fresh air and move when nausea has visited. I'm a Brompton owner, I camp in the wild, I'm originally from Malahide, Co.Dublin and I have a KZbin, "painting outdoors" channel, so we have some things in common. My wife has had breast cancer and her sister too. It's scary, no doubt about it. I was thinking of buying my wife a Brompton, but I think I'll skip it now. Your videos are very honest, and therefore one gets to know you. You're a tough one and I'm sure you will conquer the cancer like you did the hills on Sheep's Head. I wish you good fortune. ❤ PS.
