Exploring Inside Carisbrooke School Tower Block - ABANDONED ISLE OF WIGHT

Work to start demolishing the old tower blocks commenced earlier this summer (2017), the tower blocks were built between 1957-58, permission to demolish existing the Carisbrooke College site and build a new two to three-storey building was approved by the Isle of Wight Council back in February 2017.
The new site will have a capacity of up to 600 pupils, around 400 less than it currently accommodates.
This video is from several weeks ago and already not much of the tower block remains.

I always think that an abandoned school is one of the saddest places. Buildings in which every aspect of human life, from good to bad, and in which lives were actually changed for ever, lying empty. Memories live here, and I know people who only went to school because they had to, telling me how saddened they were to find that their school had been demolished, and a new one in it's place. I have never re-visited my old high school, as it has been altered beyond recognition. I never really liked school, but was greatly upset to see a google earth image of it, noting cars parked where the swimming pool had been. A sobering video indeed. Was that your old school?

I think that whether you liked school or not its an integral part of shaping who we become. I went to Cowes High which sadly has also been knocked down and rebuilt... It is now absolutely un-recognisable, I too do not have particularly fond memories of it although I'll admit I was really saddened to see it gone, purely for the fact that its another lost connection to the past. I understand how times move on and the original buildings had outlived their purpose, but having spent 4 years at that school it’s so sad to see it like this before being demolished. Happiest years of my life at school. So many memories.

I worked at Carisbrooke college (aka high school) during the demolition. We had to go through the tower block bit by bit just before the started to pull it down to make sure we had removed all our kit. I remember finding some real gems in there. Though there had been some modernisation, it retained a huge number of heritage features from when it was first built - lots of brass fittings, woodblock floors and all that good stuff, and I even stumbled accross a cupboard stuffed full of 1980s and 1990s computer kit. It was a real shame to see it pulled down. It was all about the council flogging off the land - the "New build" was a joke - just trying to squeeze the site into the smallest possible footprint.

I went to this school, i literally just saw an apocalyptic waste land where it once was on google maps, i had no idea this happened, I had to google it, n this video came up. every memory of that place is now rubble. I still have dreams i have to get to class, can never go back now no matter what. And so much for a high school reunion.

I was there from '81 to '84. Great memories. Is Nodehill abandoned? If so, I'd love to see the inside. More nostalgia.

Node Hill is a protected building. It's used as a 6th form campus for Medina and Carisbrooke schools (they're all run by the same organisation). It's still got some features from the old middle school in there - it's a really interesting site.

Great video, which has brought back many memories each time I watch it. I was there ( when as Carisbrooke Grammar ) as a student 1959 to 1965, then as Laboratory Technician 1966 to 1976. The last remaining block is now due for demolition (the Science Block) and I was wondering if you had any plans to add a final tour of this last block to your original video of Carisbrooke High. Keep up the good work!

Abandoned Isle of Wight Its crazy if I had been one of the team working there I would have tried to keep it safe and phoned round schools or churches that might have space. Sometimes it seems like people just dont care. Craftspeople spent time carefully making that. Licenced vandalism.

@@AbandonedIsleofWight It was pretty rushed. A fair bit of stuff was left, while there was a frantic effort to get stuff out that was ultimately of no value or use. I suspect one of the reasons for the piano being left was that the school trust had a fair few "spare" pianos at C'brooke and the other sites, and also had a desperate shortgage of caretakers and equipment to move and store it properly. When I was there, the budget was razor thin.Make do and mend was the order of the day.

Nice! My Mum works there, really sad.. I heard you were taken to court for ""breaking in""?? If It's possible, could you do inside Christ the King college? I used to go there. Probably not a good idea but if you want to, it's a suggestion!! The old doctors / cottage hospital in East Cowes would be intersting as well! Always wabted to see what its become! Adelaide Lane (The street just off the main road) has multiple entrances that would be easy to get into! Gotta be quick if you wanna do that one though as they have started work on it again! It's gonna be 4 houses...

+TopHatterProductions I've never been done for breaking in as I only ever access sites if I can find a way in without causing any damage. I did have a peak at Christ King but couldn't see any easy access and East Cowes is well boarded up and also is alarmed... Thanks for watching :D

Abandoned Isle of Wight XD that's what most people want! To keep people off! Especially with Studio School kids around, that needs to be very high security! There are two entrances that are just those flimsy work site fences, you could just push them open.. Not very well secured really!! I would love to see in there, I wonder what's been left behind!? 😂

Sad, sad, sad. I was one of those pupils who were there on day one, in September 1958. It wasn't a pretty building, but the pupils, with a few exceptions, left there in due course to lead useful lives.

I had no idea they were knocking it down until a friend tipped me off whilst he was driving past... Two weeks later and it's already mostly gone. The mental asylum would be "Whitecroft" most of it has been converted to fancy flats, however, there is still a un-developed section... Although I'm fairly sure that they have on site security
