When you hear and see on the TV about these houses falling into the sea you think aww poor people. But then when you actually take us into the said houses its heartbreaking to see how beautiful the houses are and how happy people must of been living there and so harshly taken away from them. Thanks for sharing....its so sad xx

I know one of the guys from the local authority who was part of the evacuation team, he said that the ground was rippling as you walked on it, he could hear mature trees snapping and after one trip from a garden to the road and back again, the garden was unrecognisable.

Looking at news articles for the local area, it appears that the major landslip happened just to the left of the of first bungalow you went in, and the road cracked open directly in front of the bungalow - it happened on the 12th February 2014, and the army was called in on the 16th to help evacuate the other houses opposite the bungalow, where the road completely fell away. It looks like the severe weather and loads of rain preceding this event was to blame. But if you notice further along the road there are traffic lights which has been there for some time before 2014, where that section of road had been moved due to what looks like a landslip there as well. So the houses would have been empty since Feb 2014, thats 9 years. Looking at Google Streetview, you can see they were occupied in 2009 and in 2011, but abandoned in the later 2019 view. The second house was called Mount Lavinia - you can see the name plate on the gate on the 2009 view. The abandoned Ford Cougar is interesting though - you can see it on the drive in the 2019 view, but it shows as MOT'd until April 2019, so it was left there at least 4 years after the house was abandoned in 2014 - very odd that. Very interesting video, but confused me when you jumped to that Harbour Farm place, which I found was located some distance from the first 2 houses you looked at.

The car would of had to be used/ moved in March/ April 2018 at the very latest for it to have MOT until April 2019. So someone must of still been living there illegally until at least March/April 2018 before eventually abandoning it

It's a very sad story regarding the house, stables etc, former Harbour Farm.The couple who lived there, had already donated land to the RSPB, but the Environment Agency eventually forced them out, to further flood the area, as is considered a SSSI.However, the EA are yet to do anything, and it's stood abandoned for 10 years.

There's not a lot you can do about it. It's not safe for anyone to go in there and that includes demolition of the place. So the safest thing is to let fall down bit by bit and remove whatever falls down below, its not ideal for the environment, but it's the safest. The explorers are taking a huge risk going inside these properties. Any further construction near coasts likely to erode should be banned. The people that lived in these houses left most of their things behind which proves how dangerous it.
@nicklyles8098
@nicklyles8098 4 ай бұрын
This whole area is built on what is called the landslip, no houses should ever have been built on it, the underlying strata is blue slipper clay & there lies the problem, the more it rains the more dangerous it becomes. The A3055 I think maybe still closed a huge landslip took place a year or so ago, where the local tea rooms lost all there gardens & a garage & car are now on a ledge 50 feet down the cliff never to be used again, well it was when it first happened, so whether it is now I couldn't tell you, so maybe another film visit there?

I don't know where these houses are, but I remember holidaying on the island in the 1970's and early 80's and visiting Blackgang Chine. In those days, it was double the size it is now. Many of the buildings like the castle, whale, crooked house, old mother shoe and the dinosaurs I believe are long gone because the whole area is a landslip area. One only has to look at Google Satellite to see the extend of the slip area. We used to stay at what is now Sandown Bay Holiday Park and walk up to the monument at the top of the hill. Even then, the cliff was slipping away. There was a bomb crater that as kids we used to run down. The next time we went, it was fenced off and on the edge. Probably not there now. All very sad, but it is a natural erosion process, caused by the unique geology of the area.

Im just wondering, why don’t the UK government build a bridge to Isle of Wight? That way, the island could have a better chance of being revitalized

Such a shame about the houses, I live about 5 min away and as of a few years ago they were more or less untouched, gone down hill massively unfortunately. Can’t actually believe how they stayed so good for so long, the copper tank was only nicked less than a year ago. Also I don’t think the cougar on the drive was the owner of the house, just dumped there probably about 6-7 years ago

The house down the bottom of the hill near old park road collapsed a few weeks ago, there's fault lines in the woodlands around it and the roads are ripped apart.

@@VacantHaven I was going to check out the house below but within a few days the top floor collapsed into the lower level, it's definitely a sad situation. The people who owned it was searching for people's videos/ photos and sending them messages.

I'm curious, how many of these homes were lived in by the owners vs mainland/overseas owners who rented them out as holiday homes (Air B&B etc)
