If that Tower doesn`t qualify for some sort of grant to restore it, there is no justice. I love the Liverpool Docks area, not only because that`s where I grew up but it is part of our Country`s never mind our City`s, heritage. I work on The Railway and my job takes me down to The Docks, as such I have often wandered around old Buildings and the remnants of old cranes. In places, the old Railway lines, between docks are visible and I always say to myself, If only this place could Talk. What a great job lads, keep em coming 👍👍

Watched this video with my dad today! He worked for MD&HC for many years and had gone to see the clock the day before!!! He couldn't even get near it and was so upset to see the deterioration of the dock and also the clock. My dad said there used to be an engine in it and it set the foghorn off, he used to have to light it and then run back to his office. I didn't really understand the logistics of it but we both really enjoyed your video. How on earth though has this clock been allowed to fall into such disrepair??? I thought it was grade 11 listed. How have Liverpool Council allowed this to happen?? Can't we start some kind of campaign to get this saved for future generations??? My dad was so sad about this surely even the Port authority or the maritime museum should be doing something!!

Its a real shame its been left to go this way I'm unsure if its getting restored with the new stadium going up I'm pretty sure something will have to happen with it and i really do hope it gets something done to it Thanks for watching and thanks for the info thats brill always good to here from people connected to these places i go I've seen these docks slowly dissappear over the years sad as it is unfortunately there's nothing we can do to stop it

@@g2emedia1977 thanks so much for your reply! Was with my dad yesterday and told him I had left a comment on your video. Do you think the stadium will go ahead now bearing in mind what is happening with Russians! do you think the money will still be there?? Anyway I may write to Peel Ports and make a few more enquiries about the clock. Your video is excellent, my dad is 93 and it was such a coincidence that he had gone to see the clock and couldn't get near it and then we found your video. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks so much and I will keep you posted of any further developments regarding the clock.

I would have turned away at the "danger asbestos" sign, because, you know, asbestos Edit: those big shafts were probably for the weights of the old clock, there were two, one to power the timekeeping, and one to power the bell striker. Mechanical tower clocks from that time period required large weight shafts and usually a central mechanism room. I have a playlist of old tower clock mechanisms on my channel, if you want to see what I mean Edit 2: the gears at the center would have had big poles going to each of the dials, a pole going down from that would have connected to the clock. Quite disappointing that there's nothing left of the clock or bell, in a lot of abandoned clock towers the bell usually remains, it must have been pretty small for it to have been removed easily. A cable leading from the clock mechanism would have connected to a hammer next to the bell, and the clock would have pulled the hammer to strike the bell.

Great explore. My dad worked in the fresh produce import industry in the 1980's and was based in a portacabin on the Quay (I think Canada Dock). I remember going to work with him one day in November and the wind was that bad it felt like it lifted the entire thing.
