Lived there back in the late 70s early 80s. Real sense of community. The plan should be demolish the abandoned properties and install lodges for social housing. Just for the record I may be moving back in a couple of years. The place has always been in my heart.

I wouldn’t mind living in Jaywick if I was brave enough. I used to live on Canvey Island it had an old fashioned village feel to it. That was 16 years ago. I think Jaywick is the same . I’d love to live by the sea, I’m surprised there aren’t any big beachfront properties that are posh. If they develop it , it will be too upmarket and the ordinary folk will be priced out. I think eventually it will become an expensive place to buy a property

Jaywick won’t stay like this for much longer , I can see compulsory purchases on the chalets , a nice few pub/restaurants and a general tidy up of the beach ! Generally when places are left to rot it’s for an agenda in years to come ! The junkies and mentally infirm were sent there to help run this place down also they are easy to move out and move on ‼️ Then the big regeneration will begin and Londoners will come back .

The Council have a legal requirement to maintain sanitary health condition, not only is it a fire risk, it could trap a young child under heavy furniture or god knows what, and if they don't, stop paying council tax..Like a squeaky wheel gets the oil, the council need constant reminding, otherwise they'll think the locals aren't bothered..They'll clean it up if enough people complain.

What a shame the place has been left neglected for so long - I know people who are living in Jaywick now, including a cousin, but I don't know exactly which part. They haven't said they want to leave so.. A lot of the empty places must have been condemned, leaking roofing etc. All the stuff left behind should be cleared out, the first place with the pianos was really sad- like someone had died. Pianos are worth money, can't believe someone leaving them to rot. Maybe old people gone into care homes? But the ones with kids toys, clothes etc left behind with furniture - maybe evicted? Where's the Landlord? Council really needs to get the rubbish out and demolish the wrecked places, how do they get away with it? As for the kids in the pill box- every pill box I've seen has graffiti etc inside, and teenagers will always make their own places to hang out. There's pill boxes all over Essex from WW2, they're solid and pretty rainproof so people will get in them. They didn't get stroppy, just camera shy. Jaywick people deserve better, it could be made so much better, must be depressing when you have to live next to a derelict place when you're doing your best. Interesting to see from your video, and I don't think you were being down on Jaywick, just showing what's going on.

Nope, lived there in the late 80s, early 90s.. nobody tells on other people for anything. Kinda lawless place to live. I personally liked it. Good memories TBH. When you grow up somewhere like this you just don't know any different. I had serious issues adjusting when I moved away from here though, what seems normal there is not normal in other places around the country. We were all doing acid and smoking hash at a young age etc.. nobody really cared. What doesn't kill you..... I do very well in life now days, plenty of cash.

My family and I spent many, many holidays in Jaywick. We all have the most wonderful memories of the place. There used to be a big open air market on a Sunday at the Brooklands end. While mum and my sisters did their shopping, my dad and my brother would go and race on the nearby go-kart circuit and I would visit the donkeys. When the donkeys were on the beach, my sister and I would be at the head of the queue for a ride. All my sisters and I also enjoyed the trampolines that were on the beach beside the Beach Bar. My dad would hire a Float from the trampoline place too and he would take us all of us out quite far on the sea. Floats looked like wooden pallets. None of us could swim, no life jackets. Health and safety was unknown in the 50s and 60s. Dad would rent a bungalow for us for a week or two. Some of our favourites were called 'Pebbledash' and 'Whoopee' amongst others. Another good memory was every evening we would walk to Clacton Pier. I, being the youngest, would walk on the sea wall while someone held my hand. We would stop on the way to play on the big wobbly slide at Butlins. On the way back we would buy hot ring doughnuts from Butlins. For a 'laugh', dad would hold mum still as all the bats would fly out of the martello tower. In those days, if the tide was very low, we could see the top of another martello tower out to sea. If the weather was fine during the day, we would hire a fleet of the side by side quad pushbikes. I was too small to reach the pedals so I would always squeeze between my mum and dad or my brother and one of my sisters. I could reminisce forever about our glorious holidays in Jaywick. I am so sorry that it is so run down now but I remember it in its heyday and it was amazing. Come on Council, help to make Jaywick glorious again.

Omg these are all my memories aswell. It makes me so sad to see this when it was the happiest time of my childhood. My Nan and grandad owned a chalet and we would stay there in the holidays. Highlight of the week was going to the marker 😂loved spending my pennies in the sunspot after. Everyone knew each other in your road, everyone was friendly. We would run through the alleys with our friends, hide under the chalets that were open. We would go to the clubhouse and sit outside the pub when our dads we’re in there with a bottle of coke and a pkt of crisps. Walking along the sea wall path we would try to get wet by a wave. The donkeys were the best, carefully choosing the name you liked best to ride that one. Clacton pier was like a dream going on all the rides and playing bingo. It was in the late 70’s& 80’s And they built one of the first rollercoasters is I had seen no one would go on with me in the end my Nan came on 😂. I could go on and on and I would do it all again if I could❤

Some of the best beaches in europe are just wide expanses of sand and a few palm trees and cafes dotted about. Why is it so hard to create such places all over the uk cheaply to increase quality of life? Most uk resorts are a hideous nightmare throwback from the 1940s full to the brim with tacky slot machine arcades, stoney beaches and a poverty ridden populations. Our resorts would be improved by simply bulldozing them and replacing most of the buildings with a few palm trees and classy cafes and imported sand.

God Almighty! The whole place needs to be bulldozed. The people cursed with living here should be rehoused nearby. Jaywick should then be rebuilt with a mix of social and private low density housing. There should be proper facilities for the people living here (schools, health centre, sports centre, public swimming baths, etc). Looking at the people, many seem quite elderly and vulnerable. If the area is to have a future, it needs to attract younger people, those prepared to work on the rejuvenation of the area. Many jobs could be created here. It is unforgivable that the state demands so much and provides so little. Another example of the logical outcome of a protection racket masquerading as a local form of authority. This is what happens when people are robbed.

with the kids why did they not what to show there faces it makes them seem more like they are doing something they should not be. if the council leave all the rubbish. then the council has to pay the rat man to come and kill them and have thing get more damaged which they have to pay for. really the road are more just like a static caravan park. And some of the people should have there rubbish took away in houses were people are in. it looks untidy and some people are making it look even worse. stop dumping the rubbish at the empty houses.
