Kangertittivaq (Scoresby Sund) in East Greenland is the largest fjord system in the world. These remote fjords were once inhabited by descendants of the inuit Thule Culture, but no more. The fjords are stunningly beautiful, with glaciers draining ice from the Greenland Ice Cap, but the weather can be fierce. Polar bears, ptarmigan and Arctic hares are all in their winter colours by October. Soon the fjords will freeze. The vast Hall Bredning basin is filled with gigantic icebergs drifting slowly towards the open sea.
