I lived in Karosta from 1986 to 1994, my father was a commandig officer of submarine (22 Sub Brigade). I studied at school №3, near the Red Tower. The best time of my life!

Я тоже учился в школе N 3 и жил напротив кирпичной водонапорной башни и мы тоже уехали в 94 или 95м(ходил в 3ю школу до 7 класса включительно) Так что может быть даже были знакомы))

I went there last year to show my gf who's from Northern part of Latvia to show all these abandoned buildings of tsarist Russia.. didn't work out.... All have windows now and they all are at premium price :) I'm not talking about few Khrushchevkas, I remember going through the Tosmare/Karosta in early 2000s, everything looked in disrepair, beautiful but sad, thankfully people did understand that it's cheaper to fix than demolish, but sadly many have been demolished before... This Russian Empierilistic/french, if that's the right word - is pretty interesting type of architecture... Maybe one day I'll be able to visit it...

Latvija ļoti droša valsts vienkārši. Tpc "bīstamākā" daļa ir tikpat droša kā Francijas "drošākā" daļa.

Knowing how beautiful and safe Karosta is, this video does not really show it. The buildings, the nature, the beaches and fortress ruins, the famous prison, etc..

I drove through there in 2015. Actually drove through the old Soviet naval base. It has the concrete walls with frescos and art installations. there were a lot of squatting families in there too

There's s nothing dangerous about Karosta or Latvia. If anything, it is one of the safest countries on Earth.

Karosta is not a town , it's a part of the Liepāja city. Name of it simply means : Karš = war , osta = port , so it's just the military port.

Karosta is a district of Liepaja but yeah, you can get in trouble with the russki's all over the country if you meet them at a bad place and time. Hopefully some day that will change and they (their children) will realize that USSR and it's remnant (which is waging war on their 'brothers') was just a nightmare page in history.

I would assume that most of the residents in Karosta are Russian . and were moved there by the Russian government to work at the Naval Base?
@kraanz2 ай бұрын
Correct. They were openly hostile to Latvian independence, which is what used to make that district a bit dangerous. Not any more.

Latvians are mostly atheist, and then mostly Lutheran with catholic parts like Suiti or Latgale. And russians are orthodox mostly regardless which region they live in.

Ironically, I pronounced it correctly until the night before recording. I met some Erasmus students in Riga who insisted it was this pronunciation, hence the way I say it.
