Melbourne travel vlog
We've been told that Melbourne doesn't have the best beaches so we decided to check them out. Although the beaches aren't great compared to other places in Australia it's still worth the day trip to walk along the beaches all the way to the little beach huts at Brighton! The view of Melbourne CBD makes for the perfect backdrop with a coastal path the entire way.
Thanks for watching!

Hi guys!! Another awesome video! ✨Yeah unfortunately Melbourne city doesn’t really have the greatest beaches cos the coastline is really just facing out toward the bay and not the ocean, which is why there’s also a lack of waves etc but if you head along the coastline towards the great ocean road there’s some lovely (proper) beaches down there like in Bells Beach, Torquay, Lorne etc. U guys have prob moved on from Melbs now anyway so if that’s the case wherever you are take care and enjoy the rest of your travels!!

Yes go to the west coast past Geelong for great beaches (and the Great Ocean Rd) or go East to the Mornington peninsula. In regards to skydiving - I went 20 years ago in Surfers Paradise in QLD. Good spot.

if you can travel to somewhere like Cape Paterson east of Melbourne, or Torquay west of Melbourne, that's where you'll see 'proper' beaches that aren't sheltered by the bay.

I'm glad you are both enjoying our country. I used to live in South Melbourne, just beside Port Melbourne. The terrace houses around there are stunning. The bay beaches are never very nice; you need to get to the ocean coast. Entry to Luna Park used to be free too, you only had to pay for rides. You guys should consider seeing the temperature rain forests just east of Melbourne - there's a section there called the 1000 steps which is a Kakoda Memorial hiking trail. It commemorates the Australian soldiers who were tortured and killed in Papua New Guinea by the Japanese who forced them to do slave labour. The forests there will blow your mind though. You can also ride on Puffing Billy out there (an old steam train that runs over old wooden truss bridges through the fern forests). The 1000 steps and Puffing Billy are both out towards Lilydale. You really need to go check them both out! Also, go visit Ceres. It's a bit of a hippy commune in Brunswick East. Lots of veggies patches, a cafe, and farm animals roaming about. You two are both learning about true Australian culture and what the nation is actually like. Thank you so much for visiting and not falling into the "drinking Foster's and going to the beach" stereotype many tourists attribute to us. Very few vloggers choose to portray the nation as a mature and diverse nation that only comprises Sydney and the outback. Huge respect!

You needed to go to the Mornington Peninsular for better beaches than our city centre ones. The snorkelling off Rye Pier and Portsea Pier ( Leafy Sea Dragons abound) is excellent. But, just next to Brighton Beach is Black Rock, where there is excellent snorkelling right off shore. Tou only need to be thigh deep to see Port Jackson sharks, Fiddler Rays, sea urchins, lots of fish and a bit deeper, very occasionally, you can even see Leafy Sea Dragons.

Dont worry about you have missed the sunset. I am sure you will see many others along the west coast or even in the outback and they are stunning. I dont want to know how much a house at Brighton beach would ever cost. Had a former workmate working in a subsidary in Melb and living in St. Kilda and sho loved it to be there. Have you already tasted the Pavlova cake ? Enjoy downunder and thakns for your recodings. Stay safe and healthy.

Bellarine and Mornington peninsula beaches are the best in Melbourne. I been living in Melbourne most of my life and never been to the inner city beaches too grotty for my liking. Start @ Mordialloc beach and head towards Frankston there u will get a better appreciation of Melbourne beaches. But most tourists who come to Melbourne dont venture to that part of Melbourne. Too far away from the city center . Anyway thanx again . Enjoying watching your Australian adventure keep postin and stay safe. By the way there's penguins that have taken a liking to the Stkilda peer, foreshore area but it dont get publicised much because they dont want too many people going there and disturbing the penguin colony.

FUN FACT 1. The timber rackrail 'Scenic Railway' at Luna Park, St Kilda is the oldest still operating in the world. FUN FACT 2: If you just order standard Fish n chips in Australia it is Gummy Shark that you are eating. So we eat more sharks, than sharks eat us. Just so you know! FUN FACT 3. ST Kilda Pier is home to the most accessible Little Penguins in the southern hemisphere.

Brighton is one of Melbourne's most affluent suburbs and the beach boxes are elite property and cost a fortune to buy. Acland Street, where you got the chips, is quite well known for all of the cake shops. That is a mega walk though 👏

The water in Melbourne beaches is usually fairly calm as they are in Port Phillip Bay which is huge .The different names for the beaches come from the suburbs they are in. There are o approximately 20 Melbourne Bay beaches. They extend down the Mornington Peninsula on the eastern side and also around the western side to the Bellarine Peninsula, to the provincial city of Geelong, where there are more. Once you get out of the Bay into Bass Strait the seas on the beaches are bigger and rougher, as around Sydney. You can see little penguins at St. Kilda Beach. Those bathing boxes cost a lot of money for what they are. There are more on some other beaches. The longest beach in the State of Victoria, where you are, is the Ninety Mile beach in East Gippsland. Please don't try to walk it in one day! Have you eaten Barramundi (or heaven forbid, Orange Roughy/Sea Perch) fish , yet?
@AUmarcus

Melbourne's beaches line Port Phillip Bay which might seem like a Sea/Ocean as it's about 40km across. Victoria's nicer beaches are along its southern coastline....Bells, Torquay and Barwon Heads among them.

I love Melbourne, being born and bred here, but our bayside beaches aren't much to write home about - we have some lovely ocean beaches down at the Mornington Peninsula and Phillip Island, but as much as I hate to admit it, Sydney has better beaches. In fact, the beaches and the cricket at the SCG are the only places in Sydney I'd even bother with.

@@AshandKels awesome. You’ll love it. One bit of advice, if your driving north of Perth, always drive during the day after sun up and stop before sunset. The Roos are prolific and they’re movement times are during the night between sunrise and sunset. Also, further north your going to be dealing with emu’s and cattle on the roads (the stations up north don’t have fences as they’re so large so the cattle roam freely) so drive carefully. I’ve just done a 6 hr drive for work to Meekatharra in the centre of WA in the desert and I had to avoid dingos, bungarras (very large goanna), cattle from stations and loads of emus. Mayhem but also what makes travelling up here kinda cool. 😂 If you go to SHARK bay, when your driving through the “dog fence”, if you slow down with your windows down you’ll hear a barking recording as you drive over it. It’s been there for years and it’s to deter wild dogs from entering the area. And check out the Pink Lakes on the way to Kalbarri. 🙂
