Terry needs to be acknowledged as in master composer, as well as a great and utterly unique, original drummer. All of his ostinatos and improvisations are solid compositionally, they stand on their own as pieces of music.

Terry is a smart and insightful guy. I actually like hearing his ideology as much as I like hearing his drumming. His ideology and his drumming are well connected and go hand in hand.

Terry Bozzio's drumming literally changed my life when I first heard him almost 40 years ago. His work with Zappa, UK and Missing Persons was beyond inspiring, more like an addiction! He probably views his early work as "quaint" or "derivative" nowadays, but it meant so much to me... and really sent me on a quest to be the best I could be. Thank you, Terry!!!

Awesome analysis...I was that young drummer, had a ton of fun in the 70’s and 80’s. I stopped for 30 years. Now the last 6 years, I started to really experience the deeper dive in grooves and syncopated drumming. Thanks bro!

This man is so fcuken good it is scary. I have tried some of his rudiments and grooves and I consider myself to be a pretty good drummer. I have been drumming all my life and I have just about gone mentally ill trying to copy these grooves. I mean listen to his base drums when he speeds up with his hands and does more complicated beats his feet are solid. Incredible drummer, world class.

Bozzio , one of the greatest!!!! I get where he's coming from. Talk percussion " Any one can go to guitar center and buy a Simple set up and learn a couple beats and perfect the dumb beat and get In a band a maybe that band might get famous, but finding something u love and perfectly exploring it like a beat with ur feet that acts like a bass player " 😆. Whoever gave a thumbs down , really! May I ask when is last time 10s of thousands of people payed for a ticket to see u perform on stage by urself behind a drum set that u would get lost behind 🤔🥁🥁?

(1:45 to 3:45) He's talking about the effect of consumerism on our approach to music. In this culture success is seen as creating a popular celebrity brand. That experience can only go so far as we develop as an artist. But there is so much more to the experience if we but in the time to acquire skills that might not necessarily increase the popularity of our celebrity brand. Yet these skills are necessary to become a scholar or master of the art form. And then we can experience the kind of joy or satisfaction that consumerism can't provide.

It’s not so much a “lack of teaching,” it’s a lack of being teachable and having patience. Kids want instant gratification, but it’s not due to video games. It was that way when I was growing up in the early 70s. I wanted to be on stage like Rush, but learning how to play like Neil wasn’t low art either. We all need the right path that works for us as individuals. Some can learn in a classroom environment and some can learn off of videos like this. We are not all reachable or teachable the same way.
