So welcome to my beloved state of Michigan. We are definately geared for families and camping, skiing and snowmobiling. We do have some big city theaters, art galleries and the like such as Grand Rapids, Lansing, Ann Arbor and Detroit but my personal favorite is the west coast of michigan and north. I hope you get a chance to visit the upper pennensila. I have been watching your videos for quite a while and since I belong to a group of women (the camping sisterhood) who camp with out our men, tent camping is my favorite. I love your set up. I am 79 and camp with my two daughters (60 and 58) who do most of the hard work. I will keep watching your progress.

The black squirrels were brought to Michigan by W. K. Kellogg from Africa. They have now migrated through out most of the state. Cherries are a big deal here because we are known as the cherry capital of the world. Apples and blueberries are also major crops for us.

I was just watching your video, laying back on the couch enjoying Michigan. Then you had to go to the restaurant and order the delicious sandwich and hamburger with pie! You are killing me! That not to say Kelly's cooking doesn't look mouth watering, because it is, but I guess the pie just spoke to me.

The thing about the cherries is because up in that section of Michigan there are tons and tons of cherry orchards. At least there was back in the early seventies. I have been to that very same Cherry hut but way back then. It was always a huge treat for us kids.

When I was very young in the late 1960s and early '70s we used to stay at a cabin right on the Platte, at that time it was still deep enough we could take a 12 ft boat with a small outboard and go all the way out to Lake Michigan. We would be up there for 2 weeks and my dad and I would go up and down the river just about every day.

Used to live in Traverse City. Small city of roughly 22K but would swell to around 150K during summer months as vacationers and seasonal people would arrive for the June. July and August. The Cherry Festival is a national event that attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors to its week long celebration. I currently live near Iron Mountain in Michigans Upper Peninsula aka Gods Country! I certainly hope your travels will allow you the privilege of traveling up the Lake Michigan coast thru T.C., up through Charlevoix, Petoskey and up over the Mighty Mackinac Bridge. This would allow you to experience "The Other Michigan", the Upper Peninsula. The remote and the rugged! i think you would be thrilled with Gods Country!

Man that Park look like it's a lot of fun there in Michigan. I have family there in Michigan. I need to get ahold of them so we can get together at this part and have some fun. I really really really like that kayak ramp man. That is awesome I have not ran across a place to have something like that. It makes it so easy to get from the car down to the water with your kayak & gear. I wish all kayak pieces would have something like that like the place that I kayak launch from earlier today. My family ( wife , 6 boys , & my granddaughter ) is taking me on a 30 - mile kayak camping trip & my wife invited her co-worker and her family ( husband , & 2 boys ) to kayak with us for Father's Day and boy those ramps would have helped us today get The Kayaks from the car down to the water. Good video thank you for sharing.

If you make it back down to the lake shore you need to look for Petrosky stones you’ll find them in the gravel where the waves come in. They’re gray with a hexagonal pattern. BTW it’s Michigan’s state stone.

You were in the right place for food, the Traverse City region is the cherry capital with many orchards, I think Michigan is second to Washington state for cherry production. Its also big for wineries as its on the 45th parallel which lines up with the great growing regions of France for wonderful grape production.

Glad you guys got to experience things we would of suggested the only thing we have done is Rocks Landing. Platte River is awesome and in another month it will be crowded with a bunch of people having a good time. Black squirrels. Funny thing. That campground is the first time we saw them also. We were doing a drive through of the campground. They are all over the place in that part of Michigan. We have them in our yard in Manistee. We even have a big birch tree in our front yard. lol. Point Betsie…been there so many times and you get a different look every time. Unfortunately, the inside was never open any time we go. Maybe we were there after closing hours. There are so many lighthouse. Frankfort has one. We have one in Manistee. They are all over the place and each one is unique. See as many as you can. Frankfort. It’s pronounce Frankfurt. Like a frankfurter. If you drive down to Onekema, good luck on getting the pronunciation of that one on the first try. Haven’t been to stormcloud brewery yet. It’s always packed. But have some great suggestions for other restaurants there in Frankfort and Elberta right across the portage lake. M-22. You really need to drive as much of it as you can. I read somewhere that it’s the most picturesque autumn drives or voted it. It starts in Manistee and follows the shoreline up through the Lelenau peninsula and ends in traverse city. It’s really beautiful. Cherry Hut. You are spot on. The food is great and the cherry pie even better. The turkey dinner is da bomb. We’ve also been known to stop in to buy a pie and some coffee and go over across the street to the park on Crystal Lake and eat pie and drink coffee with a beautiful scenery. The hut will give you plates and forks to go with you. It’s seasonal. It closes down in the fall and probably hasn’t been open too long. There is a cherry hut store on the hill there in Beulah that you can buy pies when the restaurant is closed for the season. Cherry’s are big in michigan because they are grown there. The cherry festival will be happening pretty soon in traverse city. You need to drive over to Glen Arbor while you are at Platte and check out the Cherry Republic. Everything cherry you can think of. Feel free to ask ahead of time of where you may be going and we will see if we suggest anything.

Hey guys, greetings from Wisconsin! So glad you're enjoying your time up north. Yes, we grow a lot of cherries up here. In Wisconsin, there's a place called Door County. Very scenic popular place to visit. There's cherry everything there. Even an airport called Cherryland Airport. Glad you got to visit the lighthouse. Lots of those along the Lake Michigan shoreline. We have a lighthouse tour which takes you to numerous lighthouses. You go by boat. The food you're having at the different restaurants looks so good. You mentioned that the mornings were chilly - yes they are, even in August, but it feels good because the summers can be hot. So you'll be packing up soon for more adventure. I'll look forward to the video!

I'm from the Benzie country. You are saying Frankfort correct Kelly. I'm happy to see you did the Platt river in your kayaks. It truly is relaxing and beautiful. I am glad you two are enjoying some of the many wonderful places here NW lower Michigan.
