It must have been quite an experience encountering stars like Dora Bryan during your time in Brighton. Brighton is one of my most favourite places and so full of history. I think that too - on Desert Island Discs when Diana Dors was asked what book she would take with her to the Island she said her own autobiography ‘Dors by Diana’ so that in the event she died on the island - whoever found her could read about her life and know who she was - she wanted to be remembered ❤

Hi Shar, my goodness what a lovely retreat of a room you have there I too have quite a lot of Picturegoer annual's and magazine's mostly of my favourite man Richard Todd ( icon picture) I have adored him all my life, well since I can remember. My late mother was an avid fan mostly of the Hollywood mode I myself have always preferred British films but I will sit quite happily watching a Hollywood film, I just love the fashion of the day the decor even the way they talked. I am sure like me you used to sit with your Mum watching an old film with her and just getting swept away but it all. I remember watching 'Stella Dallas' with Barbara Stanwyck and at the end I was passing out tissues we were both sobbing our hearts out, such was the powerful story and the acting. Like you I always loved Diana Dors she was so funny do you remember 'Looks Familiar' where famous people would be on a panel hosted by Dennis Nordern there was an actor reading something out and he was not very good at it, Diana in her usual humour said to him' I would hate to be your agent right now!' where everyone laughed. Happy days weren't they I suppose because I was brought up watching these people you don't forget them, my favourite British actress has got to be the wonderful Jean Kent I discovered her I would say about ten years ago firstly in'The Browning Version' she was always brilliant at playing the bitch and she excelled herself in that one. I did read by the way your article on the wonderful Liz Fraser in the Retro magazine which I get every month and she did have a tough life but she was also a trooper, God Bless her, thanks again for all your hard work and very interesting it is too. Hi Jackie!!! Thank you so much for your wonderful comment!!! I’ve been collecting Picturegoer for a squillion years! I used to buy them from a shop in Newport Pagnell called ‘Ken’s’ after I moved in the late 80s I would make special trips back to shop there 🤭 it’s easier now with online but I’d still go to Ken’s if he was still there given half the chance! Nothing like looking through them in real life and choosing which ones you want! I have all sorts of magazines going back to the 1930s - I love them so much! Everything you say strikes a not with me! I started watching old films with my grandad back in the 1960s! Sitting on the arm of his massive armchair we’d spend hours watching the old movies on my grandparents black and white tv! It was exciting because you never had any choice - just whatever was dished up that afternoon lol I feel the same about the clothes - everything - it is an atmosphere isn’t it! YES! Watched Diana with Dennis Norden so many times! Jean Kent and Richard Todd are MASSIVE favourites of mine! So you can be assured the are on their way! 🤭 I can’t wait to talk to you about them once the videos are up!!!! This makes me so excited - it’s such a buzz when people live the same things as you do! Hi Shar, ah books, books, books I adore the written word, I'm so grateful to my primary school teachers at Sunnyside school in Alloa who taught me to read & write, the majesty of words cannot be overstated. I've got 'Bombshells' and recently received an original hardback copy of 'Laughter in the Air' so very pleased at my good fortune. In 1987 my late wife and I were both 40 and having a joyous time of being parents of a beautiful 4 year old boy, those moments with children are so precious because he's now approaching 40! where did the years go???😢😅😊 Best wishes to you Shar in all your endeavours, can't wait for your new book ❤.

I do genealogy and use a spare bedroom for all my archived material, photos and reference mags and books etc. I appreciate just how much time and effort it takes to make one upload. My pleasure Mark! I don’t know how I’d cope if I didn’t have my little den! It’s so good to be able to shut myself away and really lose myself in the past - I guess it’s a lot like what you do - only I’m not related to the people I’m researching (with one little surprise exception 🤭 that I’m looking forward to revealing😂) x it does take me quite a long time to make each video - I’m always shocked when I see other channels churning out two or three a week - even at my fastest pace I can’t manage that! ❤

I subscribe to a few other channels (mostly walking) and am always so appreciative of the hard work that people like you put into it, probably for little or no financial gain.

I can certainly understand how your mind works, As a Military Historian with skills learned in academia, I view the world very differently to 'normal' people. Starting with and finding credible accounts is an art unto itself. I no longer view things chronologically. For me, linear time is bizarre. Any new information has to fit with or challenge the sparse body of known facts. From a skeleton frame of 'truths' one is able to propose a better hypothesis more appropriate to the evidence. This takes years. For you to produce such accurate representations of a life in rapid succession reveals your talent. Thank you.

It’s my absolute passion! I love the research the most! Even though everything is out there to find (well almost everything) when you uncover something you’ve only just found for the very first time - it’s so exciting! It’s a constant learning process - which brings so much joy! And it’s the fun of the puzzle and the mystery - working out what piece fits where and if the source is a trusted one - even original sources are not always truthful - I’ve studied the life of Marilyn Monroe for more years than I care to mention!!! And she often told people stories about her life that were simply untrue - I find it all fascinating! Xx

I have watched videos that read from wiki (I’ve literally gone on there and read it word for word as the person speaks it 🤭) and shout at the screen ‘noooooo that’s wrong! 🤭 I prefer the old fashioned way of research - reading books, watching interviews, films, trawling through articles in newspapers and magazines - documents online or a trip to the library etc - and best of all when you can talk to people that were there/knew the person etc - I love that! But also - I only research people I am passionate about - and many of them while they were immensely popular in their day have begun to fade in peoples memories - we can’t have that! They gave so much pleasure and had such interesting lives! Please DO have a Bombshell Weekend - or even weekday - I thoroughly recommend them!!!! We live quite far apart so our Bombshell get togethers are EVERYTHING!!! Precious time and the very best fun! I agree with you - the Bombshell’s all led such fascinating lives - what really interests me is that they all had similar challenges in their lives but each dealt with their own personal challenge very differently - leading to diverse outcomes (relationships, careers etc) - for example it is difficult to imagine Marilyn Monroe in the role of Mrs Wickens - played by Diana Dors - Diana had to make a decision and embrace a change in direction in her career - and let go of the glamorous image - I don’t think- had Marilyn lived that she would of coped with becoming a character actress - but of course that’s my pondering! And I could be wrong but that’s what I enjoy so much 🤭 xxxx

You are a busy lady :) I wanted to ask - I live in the South West, but did a second degree and had to stay weekends at the Thames Valley Uni near the Ealing Studios. We would stop off in the Red Lion Pub which was opposite the Studios, for a beer haha! and it was full of pictures / signed pictures from the Ealing Studios, I bet in the day it was packed with celebrities ! That was over 10 years ago. I wonder do you ever go to the studios, I seem to recall they had tours? might be wrong. x

On watching this and seeing your office with all the books on film stars, reminded me of my childhood in the 60s. My mum had a few large, hard backed annuals from the golden age of Hollywood. I can't remember their titles now, but I used to love looking at the photo's in them. My parents were born in 1921, so you get what eras they covered. Recalling these books now, I have no idea what happened to them, maybe my mum gave them away, I don't know, but had I still got them, I'm sure you would have liked them as reference books and I would have gladly sent them to you if you were interested, it's shame really.

I normally spend most of my time in there - it’s definitely my happy place! The room next door is my Bombshell room - which I love too! My organisational skills leave a fair bit to be desired 🤭 especially this year - I’ve had to take some regular time out for various reasons so I’ve fallen behind on all the things I wanted to do on the channel this year - but I’m really looking forward to the New Year and getting re-started! They both still do and we talk on the phone about the latest one we've just watched. They have many old film books and I use to sit looking through them when I was young. Oh I have relatives in Norfolk - it's a beautiful part of the country! Old films are a great connection - my best friend lives a 4hr drive from me and we have been known to watch a film 'together' and text each other - she's great at remembering film lines too - you can quote any line to her and she'll tell you the film lol I'm planning on getting my organisational act together in 2024 (although don't hold me to that statement lol) What arts and crafts do you do? It should've come yesterday (Wednesday 30th August) but the delivery person clearly didn't pay attention to my delivery instructions. Instead they claimed there was a 'issue'. It was 1 of 2 items being delivered: 1. Your "Bombshells" book and 2. A big purple journal for me to write in (purple because that was Mama's favourite colour. Or at least, one of several). I've been trying to restart my life and myself, but mentally, something it's holding me back. The flat is in a mess but along with your book I have MANY books which both need to be read and displayed on book shelves. A fresh start with a fresh new style for me and my flat. Creative people are in tune with their environment aren't they? Anyway, thank you for the beautiful book and all the work that went into it and one day I'll have one published of my own, David

I’ll be in there all day today - with the exception of walking the dogs later - I do write in the camper when Zoe get the chance but that’s more creative as in poetry and short stories! Xx

Nice one. Totally agree with you about not using the "Wiki." Not exactly super-reliable, and the IMDB has some glaring errors or things missing. I know, I've noticed that myself! "Break A Leg" with the new book. X

I have only watched a couple of your videos so far, but this is a great channel! It's really fascinating and informative. It's great to learn more about some of the people I have loved watching on screen over the years. The effort you put in is very evident in the work you produce. Your graveyard visits, far from being morbid, are really quite touching and a fitting way to end each video. On one video I noticed the word Toddington at the beginning of your text. Could this mean that you are situated in the village which features the lovely G.W.R. railway? If so you are not far from wonderful Broadway and also my favourite pub in the entire world, The Snowshill Arms.

@@BeautifulBadandBizarre your welcome. Yes, we're having Sunday lunch at the pub again; a regular occurrence!. Snowshill is a lovely little village. They use the exterior of the church when filming ''Father Brown'' and I believe they have used the interior of The Snowshill Arms too. Also in the village is Snowshill Manor (National Trust) which contains a great number of curiosities collected by one Charles Padgett-Wade, (who must have been quite a curious character himself). The garden and grounds are very pleasant. Thank you once again for your charming and delightful channel. I look forward to watching more.

I met Diana Doors in ascot in the 1970s with my late beautiful Dad i think we were in loyds bank. I was only a little girl. I remember my dad saying she was a film star and she did say hello to me. But in my kids mind remmbered her size and blonde hair.

I think it's impossible to name one favourite comic - I love everyone I feature on this channel - but one of my favourites (almost THE favourite 😊 ) I'm yet to feature - so watch this space! My favourite novel - Wuthering Heights without hesitation! Favourite book, however...... Too many favourites - a truly difficult question to answer!!! Favourite films - there's a long long list but I have to say Diana Dors in Yield to the Night is right up there at the top with the best!!!! Can you answer your questions? 🤣🤣🤣 well yes it just kind of evolved - because we adore the bombshells! And we thoroughly indulge in their lives as much as we can - watching their films and chatting about them into the early hours - listening to vintage music and drinking champagne - what could be better? 🤣 I’d recommend it! Xxx
