Man I will tell you as a motor head after running a motor out of oil the entire motor is screwed. I highly recommend sourcing a new engine as soon as possible because that one will leave you in a bad situation.

I agree 100 percent, once a motor has been run dry on oil everything is damaged. Just a matter of time till the transmission goes, valves, clutch, ect. Best to just replace the motor when you can or on the next break down.

Totally agree, I mentioned this when it first seized. The old motor will now be a 'nightmare' instead of a 'dreamy' (sorry Paddy). I would even try fitting in a larger 150cc or 175 for these long trips. Regardless Paddy, safe travels and thanks for your vids, really enjoyable. Old biker from Australia.

Just a word about "Dreamy", running with low or no oil can seriously damage many parts of the engine, not just the piston and cylinder head. Most of the damage will be in what is called the lower end and transmission. Good luck on the remainder of the trip. A rebuilt engine is rather cheap at about 3000 Thai Baht.

Agreed. You might find dreamy underpowered because the camshaft lobes will have worn down from the lack of lubrication. Time will tell.

I was wondering previously why the oil pressure light never came on but now I believe this model never had one. Seems like a manual check before riding. I would also guess the cylinder sleeve will need reboring, it will also be scarred.

If the engine was completely out of oil, dreamy will need new Crank Case Bearings. The engine will have to be completely taken out of dreamy and disassembled to put new bearings in the crank case. Paddy I would consider replacing the engine with a new or remanufactured engine. It would be more reliable, and you wouldn’t have to worry about breakdowns. Have your friend in BKK call a Honda dealership and price a new engine.✌️

Paddy, like tons of other people here have already said, I think you need an engine replacement. That dried out oil would have damaged a lot of parts or at least worned it out. You can only repair so much till it might breakdown again due to the wear and tear the leak caused.

Bonito Chino's hotel in Nakhon was the easily best place we found to overnight for 1000Thb en route to Chiang Mai from Bangkok. With a great rooftop bar and decent food, we used to look forward to staying there. Hope you're OK Paddy, you do seem a little crestfallen about something if you don't mind me saying. I for one, really appreciate the fresh content that you're working so hard to deliver, cant be easy especially on a Honda bog seat.

Paddy you either need a, totally, new ( well replacement at least) engine OR a new bike. Once you do that much damage to it it will never be the same and will simply limp along for a week or so before dying again. And again, and again, and again. i think we all understand your emotional attachment to her but your simply going to sink good money after bad if you don't replace the engine at least. Kudos to those AMAZING guys who showed true Thai spirit rescuing you from the roadside and bringing her back to life. They did an amazing job bringing her back to life but if language had of been no problem I'm near certain that in amongst what they were saying to you would've been exactly what I've just said here - "she's fixed but won't last. You need a new engine."

Paddy, you can buy a fully rebuilt 1997 c100 with custum accs. for 18000 tbh. You are going to need at least a reconditioned new engine soon. How many kilometers have you travelled on her so far? If you are going near Bangers I would seriously suggest a total engine rebuild, replace wheel bearings, chain and sprockets and have the brakes done. Your current fix will only get you so far before she breaks down again. She was already sounding a bit rough towards the end of this video. Love the content, great to see you out and about.

This was the damages I expected when you loose the oil and never check the oil level on long distance driving. With the price and knowledge that road side work shop have, let them refurbish the engine for you. At least get a refurbished or new cylinder and cylinder head, since you already got a new piston head with attached parts. That way you will have a "new" engine that will last forever, as long as you start to take care of it...

@@exploretheworld4824 There is a good chance for the gear box to be undamaged since he lost compression/power. But cylinder/head/top/piston head/ piston rings and rod/crank shaft is most likely toast. And we don't know much other than the piston head is replaced. That makes it difficult do be 100% sure here behind our keyboards. But the parts I have mentioned plus some more need to be properly checked to be sure the 2500 isn't a waste of money.

The rings look shot. The biggest take away from this is a singular notion. Use the correct tool for your job. Those things were and are designed for small distance commuting. If you lived in On Nut and worked in say Sathorn, it would last longer than you. The engines, gear boxes, frame, brakes…the bike in sum, was never intended for running at high rev rates all day, day after day. A road bike, even as small as a 250, would let you keep going across Thailand, continue to Laos and enjoy Cambodia with no problems. Dreamy is not a touring bike, and will just let you down.

Perhaps if you checked the oil on the first sign of a problem might have avoided the dreamy rebuild. King Naresuan. He was contemporaneous with King James I in England. Wherever you find a bunch of roosters like that, you know that somewhere nearby there will be a statue of King Naresuan. You find this in many cities in Thailand. It goes back to a tale of a dream the king had about fighting cocks and winning the war. I don't recall the specifics but I am sure you can find it on Wikipedia. There is a great monument to King Naresuan in Ayutthaya, and sure enough he is surrounded by his chicken army.

Dreamy still has a nasty knock. I think that you have done major damage to the big end and other things. Probably try to get a new second hand engine or fully rebuild. The mechanic did what he could do with what he had. But looking at that piston it got very hot. Good luck Paddy.

Dreamy may need a proper engine rebuild or replacement soon. Those smaller repair shops may be able to get Dreamy on the road again. However, I recommend having the work done at a certified Honda dealership. Some people will say it's time for a new bike, but that's not always necessary. Keep in mind that replacement parts for motorbikes in Thailand aren't that hard to come by and are still cheap, especially an older model like Dreamy.

At our fire station we are allowed to pull our vehicles into the mechanics bay and work on them at night and on the weekends, one of the guys who had bought a brand new Ford F-150 that wasn’t even a year old yet pulled it in to do its first oil change at 5000 miles. He drained the oil, put the plug back in, was about to add the new oil and then one call came in after another and we ended up being straight out all night, the next morning he drove it home,… only one problem,.. the unopened quarts of oil were still sitting on the mechanics bench , ….. he seized the motor ! ( so I guess the moral of the story is…. Whatever this mechanic charges you,.. consider yourself getting out of it cheap )

The engine is done, Paddy. This is a patch job. There was debris inside a combustion engine from the piston head blowing up ... that has now damaged the inside of the engine irreparably. It's done. Don't pour any more money into it.

So much this... My bet is, every second episode there will be an issue with dreamy. But there will always be a Thai mechanic who will gladly patch it for 50+$ knowing full well it will broke down again in the next few days. Hope Paddy will realise this sooner rather than later.

Correct .The only solution is a complete engine transplant .Sourcing an engine from a bike whose frame has been damaged in a crash but the engine is ok .I would try every Bike shop in every town he goes through for a replacement engine .

It's just a piston Paddy, not piston head. The head is the part with the valves in it. I really hope they went oversize on the cylinder because looking at that piston, I know the cylinder has to be really bad. I rebuilt motors for a living before I retired so I know a thing or 2 about them and what damage that can do. I wish you luck and hope you don't need a complete rebuild later.

Yes cylinder walls will be well scored and the new rings may take up a bit of the wear but will not last forever and the next piston failure could be on some isolated dirt road miles from any civilization in all directions and no traffic to give you a lift to life as you know it. The engine is already sounding rougher than before the breakdown. No longer dreamy but a NIGHTMARE
