Pripyat Pianos by Strix Instruments:
strixinstruments.com/pripyat-...
33 years of harsh weather conditions and radiation, 33 years of silence, 33 years of hopeless expectation of human touch. PRIPYAT Pianos is a sound museum, created 33 years after a massive man-made disaster that has affected hundreds of thousands of lives. This is the mark of the elapsed time.

Thanks Alex for this nice video. Very personable and entertaining presented. This work with all the Photos and Information's, 7 years in a very dangerous, radioactive environment and the sound of a small world that we may have lost forever, make this work so unique and fantastic. The sound of the fate of so many people, of children who once played there, of families who sat on the balcony, of machines that were once so loud, music, art, of couples planning little things for their future, of the end that no one had expected; a total abandonment and silence. I think you can hear all of that and a lot more... A sound truly from another world.

One question, what are the limitations when using it with Kontakt Player instead of using it with the full Kontakt?
@AlexPfeffer
@AlexPfeffer 4 жыл бұрын
there are technically no limitations to the library. It just means that you can use the library without the need of having a full version of Kontakt :)
@SongOfItself
@SongOfItself 2 жыл бұрын
@@AlexPfeffer Not true actually. This library requires full Kontakt, it will not work in the player, as stated on Strix website. Too bad. Libraries that are this expensive should work in the player.

Hi i would like to know are the keys always detuned!!! Is there any way so that the keys are tuned???
@AlexPfeffer
@AlexPfeffer 4 жыл бұрын
Hey, no they aren't always detuned. In the video I explain how they detune the more you use that age slider. However a tiny bit of being messed up strings will always be, which is the concept of the library.

I thought that they sampled 20 different pianos... but this video only features those impulse responses all on the same piano. Is it one piano with 20+ impulse responses, or are there other pianos?
@AlexPfeffer
@AlexPfeffer 3 жыл бұрын
It may be just personal but I certainly wouldn't like to have a lib with 20 different pianos. Price would be in the thousands USD then. I love the IRs, they are unique and sound great.

@@AlexPfeffer -- Hah! Well then I guess you haven't tried PianoTeq Pro. It has more than 20 acoustic pianos and endless variations of all parameters... but I sure would love to use the PianoTeq pianos with the Pripyat IRs to see how they sound in those spaces. Gonna have to look into whether that is possible...

@@zedxxx9 Hehe, I am a guitar player and I would care about 20 different guitars, but Pianos? Hell no, I probably own 3 or so and barely use them :) Besides that, there is a special character in this lib that no other has. It is not just simply a piano. It is one that has been found around that area and has been built together along with parts from other Pianos around this place and then sampled. You can show me 100 other well recorded pianos libs. They all don't sound like this.
@zedxxx9

@@AlexPfeffer -- Agreed. It is a must-have!! And I really enjoyed your video, btw. I don't do horror type music, but I can easily hear how I could use the character of this unique piano for other kinds of music as well. It will be fun to try some different things with it. Or maybe I will just want to create an album of eery songs. :)

@@zedxxx9 A bit late answer (just discovered this wonderful and very interesting instrument while searching for older instruments). Quote from Strix Homepage: "We’ve found and recorded 20 instruments... All the pianos we could find participated in the creation of THE final sound.". Probably some keys were missing on many pianos or they sounded so crooked on some keys that they could not be used to build an instrument that could be played over all octaves. I think this one instrument is something very special. (Quality over quantity).

One question is, why does the library take up so much space in RAM? more than three gigabytes is simply unthinkable, there are better libraries that take up much less space in RAM, for example Production Voices - Production Grand Gold 2 and it eats less and sound significantly better. What here on 3 gigabytes of RAM?? and why the developers did not make it possible to turn off some microphones to free up some space in the RAM? The feeling that library do not care about the cache of Kontakt, for whichever cache you are set, the library will still eat more than three gigs.
@AlexPfeffer
@AlexPfeffer 4 жыл бұрын
Hey there, I think it would be unfair to compare Pripyat Pianos to Production Grand Gold because it is more of a concept library. Pripyat Pianos doesn't aim for delivering high-quality pianos at maximum studio quality. It is a piano library recorded at a tragically abandoned place. I personally don't know why the library is eating 3GB and to be honest, I didn't even check the RAM levels because I got 64GB in my machines and don't care too much about it, because every library I don't need (within a template is deactivated - so technically I could host 2000 tracks in my template without eating that much). However, just trying to come up with a solution, but did you try to lower the buffer settings in Kontakt? You can adjust this in the settings if Kontakt uses more or less RAM. In case you got SSDs in your machine, you could let it stream more from disk and therefore lower the RAM usage. Hope this works!? :)
@sadblyte8404
@sadblyte8404 4 жыл бұрын
@@AlexPfeffer I just compared it to the other one because the Production Grand weighs a lot more and takes up a lot less RAM, and I thought it was really, really weird. And Yes, I understand that Pripyat piano is aimed at another, but it's not that, but the fact that RAM it is just a hell of a lot, regardless of the Kontakt cache, I tried to change the cache from a minimum of 6kb to a maximum, and there is no difference in loading, anyway the library takes 3.25 GB whatever you do, I believe that this is a jamb of developers, they did not take into account the Kontakt cache in the script? the library does not respond to the cache in any way. And Yes I have SSD from Samsung EVO on 1TB. You know, not all are 64GB of RAM, many much less, I for example, only 8 GB, and one piano at 3.25 GB is brutal.
@AlexPfeffer
@AlexPfeffer 4 жыл бұрын
@@sadblyte8404 Yes ok, I get your point/comparison when it comes to RAM and I also confused cache with the buffer settings being the same. That's really strange that even changing it doesn't work. The reason I also mentioned my 64GB is that I got really sloppy and not paying attention so much to these things (which is actually not really good thing :D)
@sadblyte8404
@sadblyte8404 4 жыл бұрын
@@AlexPfeffer I hope that the developers will come to their senses, and fix this jamb in the patch. And if not, it's sad, and many users who will use this library will not be very happy that the library does not respond to the cache settings Kontakt
