The significance of the Niederwalddenkmal is huge. Is was created after the first unified german state was build in 1871 (before there was for more than 1000 years the holy Roman empire of German nation, which was only a loose confederation of hunderts of small states and cities). It was triggered by an attack from France, but the unified german states won led by Prussia. So the main figure is the goddess Germania, who symbolizes the German tribes from Roman times on. Beyond is Wilhelm I, King of Prussia, who became Emperor of Germany in 1871 between other German princes. The location is meaningful too. Looking over the thein river on the lands left the Rhein, which were occupied from France for 80 years. The world heritage site is not (only) the monument, but the whole rhein valley between Bingen and Koblenz ("oberes Mittelrheintal")

You almost have to live in Germany to catch those blue sky moments. We've just learned to accept the weather and go back if we remember and the forecast is good for a clear day.
