They used to call them bugs cause they would often have to look for and find bugs in the HUGE computers way back when to fix most issues. It was problem when that fried themselves on circuit baords

Common misconception, but the term "bug" to refer to engineering faults is much older than computers, and has been used by engineers since the 1800s (Thomas Edison used the term) and it may have been even older than that. The exact origin is unknown, but is probably based on the idea of engineering faults being caused by supernatural monsters - the word "bug" has been associated with demonic creatures (bugbear, boogeyman) for many centuries.
@AvalonisHere
@AvalonisHere Жыл бұрын
Fake story. The word 'bug' has been used like this well before computers ever existed. It's use in this way is dated to at least the 1870s
@stinkymonkeyhehe69

no no no, the term bug existed far before this happened, the people who found the first bug in a computer even made a joke about it, calling it an actual bug

You gained my respect for making Posishum a pure Flying-type You have no idea how sick I am of Normal/Flying route 1 birds, the underabundance of pure Flying-types and the fact that there aren't many with Flying as their primary type either (one of the reasons I very much so admire Rookidee's line and Cramorant)
@kinnaydagral
@kinnaydagral Жыл бұрын
The problem with this are moves like roost and smack down that remove the flying type from a mon. All flying type mons need another one or it wouldn't work.
@PoisonFlower765
@PoisonFlower765 Жыл бұрын
I honestly don't like Pure Flying types. Normal/Flying really gets across the fact that they're _just_ birds. Noctowl is just an owl for instance. They really don't have anything interesting going for them aside from being the second Pokémon with an at all interesting type you get in the game. Route 1 birds are basic and boring, and therefore, they are Normal. Swablu should absolutely be pure Flying type though like come onnnnn! It's clouds!
@trixienova5198
@trixienova5198 Жыл бұрын
@@kinnaydagral This isn't a mechanical issue, there are already moves like Burn Up that remove a pokemon's type, and there is already a Typeless state in the games code that just has no type matchups(and for previous example, is what happens if Arcanine or Typhlosion use Burn Up)
@TheYeetedMeat
@TheYeetedMeat Жыл бұрын
@@PoisonFlower765 well if a bird has a mythological connection or is symbolic of anything a Pokémon based on it might not be normal type so it can interact with ghost types.

Really happy to here that you're planning on making your own monster tamer. I've been a long time fan of the genre and its many forms from pokemon all the way to SMT. A lot of indie devs that try to make something more in the style of pokemon either limit themselves by keeping it in line with said style or bring no new ideas to the table, ending up with a lot of bland and generic designs. You however have a lot of excellent ideas and don't seem worried about breaking away from traditional designs. I see so much potential here and am excited to see more.

I can't stress enough how much more I like your designs than just about anything in S/V. I really did not connect with much of the Gen9 Dex. As with any generation there are always at least a hand full of standouts. But the overwhelming majority felt bad to me. Your designs on the other hand? I love them! You have such clear concepts for why they are what they are, for the most part they don't get too in the weeds with over designing details, and they all feel like something I could see being added to a dex. Especially from Gen4 and forward. Great job!

My high school had one of those massive room-sized computers back when they were relevant and programming was done on hand-punched cards. The room that was one computer was an entire computer lab by the time I went there. Not really relevant, but a neat demonstration of progress. It metamorphosed from the larval punch card computer to a whole hive of PCs.

Musculmus looks like it would be pretty viable in a theoretical meta due to a combination of decent base stats and useful abilities. The utility of being able to use it as either a Defensive Wall or as a Bulky Physical Attacker can't be understated, especially because it isn't immediately obvious which build they're running. All it needs is a movepool conducive to both playstyles and it would probably be really threatening. Physical Attacker Set: Musculmus @ Life Orb Ability: Huge Power EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def Adamant Nature - Bulk Up - Drain Punch - Thunder Punch - Crunch Tank Set: Musculmus @ Leftovers Ability: Fur Coat EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD Impish Nature - Bulk Up - Body Press - Body Slam - Rest

Toucans are a type of wood pecker so rather than Pokémon being a specific species they are often a specific type of animal or closely related species (skwovet and greedunt both squirrels different species) however in some cases entire evolutionary lines are based on a single species. lockstin’s videos shine a lot of light on what Pokémon are based on and overall Pokémon game design especially with the research he puts into each video.

I just got here from most of your other videos concerning Pokémon, now that I'm on my trimestrely Pokémon binge, and I must say, they're probably one of the best collection of original collection creatures I've seen! Both conceptually and visually, which are two things that are hard enough to Excell in, individually. Love the motif as well, since my area is Medicine and Im a sucker for animals and, both macro and microscopic lol in that sense, I'd love your take on more living beings, that being bacteria, for example. I think that's a whole set of untapped potencial and a huge source of inspiration. Something like Clostridium Tetani, the bacteria responsable for tetanus, could be a bug/steel or a bug/fighting type, based on the fact that it can harden its own tissues, in the way that the bacteria actually results in disease in humans, by making our muscle cells incapable of relaxing and perpetually contracting. I feel like your talents would be perfectly suited for that. Good luck on this endeavor! I feel like other Pokémon inspired indie games, It'd be fun to know what sort of unique mechanics you'd add to a game with these guys. Hoping something comes to fruition.

i've been watching though ur mon videos and i just gotta say i LOVE tthe cohesive style these guys all have. Theyre *inspired* by pokemon, yes, but they havea unique look all their own that unites the visually. The high contrast and bold shapes, especially. I think you look at them and go "OH, well, of course these are the sorts of monsters that would teach you science! Just look at em!" As a science educator myself (wildlife and conservation) and a former Weird Nerd Child, i am DELIGHTED about the idea of a Mon-like game based around all different branches of science. It's so cool ^w^

Even if You had only access to Furcoat Muscules because Huge Power is an HA, Doubling Defense would be superb! Hacktera is pretty dope! Bug/Electric is a pretty cool typing! Pair it with the Fire Starter which I assume is Fire/Ground, and you got a pair that'd raise some serious Hell That Early Game Bird... I Love my Staraptor, But that is giving Staraptor a Run for it's money... Speed Boost or Sheer Force? Kinda Spoiled for Choice here... It's Strong, and it reminds me of Low Poly Birds.
