Hello and welcome! I am a Shanghai citizen, but I was born and raised in Nanjing as a kid due to my parents' jobs. Glad to know that you like my two hometowns! China is really huge and has different climates in different areas and seasons, if you want to see more authentic and diversity part of china, you can go to areas that more close to country borders like Yunnan (Cities like Kunming, Dali)/Guangxi(Guilin,Yangshuo) in Spring. Summer could be really humid and hot in many areas so avoid those places (but is cooler in provinces like Guizhou/Inner Mongolia and the nature scenes are very beautiful in those places). Also there are two cities you can easily go to from Shanghai called Suzhou and Hangzhou, those are typical "Jiangnan" cities and have a strong cultural influneces for traditional chinese arts after Ming Dynasty. For foods you can go to Guangdong province, Cantonese people are really good at making delicious crusines lol. In winter Northern part of China is also a must go option, there are cities which has Russian influences like Harbin and Korean influnces like Yanji or the origin of Qing Dynasty (greater city area of Shenyang), and the price for traveling is way lower than many places. Hope you have more enjoyable trips in the future, peace!

Also I would recommend you to visit Qingdao in Shandong Province (A Province just north of Nanjing). Hi, Phoebe, shoutout to the algorithm for putting your video on my feed. I first came cross your channel from the Beijing episode, and as someone currently living abroad who spent over a decade in Beijing and is a descendant of Northeast China ethnic minority, i absolutly love and apprciate your videos. I subscribed and hit the like button without hesitation. A custom solo travel itinerary combined with a reliable local guide is honestly the best way to explore China. You're doing an amazing job! Keep it up. Speaking of your next trip to China, I have a few suggestions. You could consider using major cities as hubs and exploring the nearby smaller towns or ntural spots that have more charm and character. For example, around Shanghai and Hangzhou, you've got those amazing Jiangnan water towns like Zhouzhuang, Wuzhen, and Shaoxing, etc ----- all totally worth a visit. Another one: if you're able to stay longer, plan your trip based on the seasons and local festivals (but definitely avoid China's public holidays ---- they're a travel nightmare). You could dive deeper into inland provinces like the Northwest, Southwest, or Northeast (my hometown area). These areas have unique lifestyles and ethnic minorites living alongside Han communities, showing off one of my favorite things about China ---- its diversity. The people are different, the landscapes are different, and of course, the food is so different. There's an old Chinese saying:"一方水土,养一方人" (Every region nurtures its people in unique ways), and it couldn't be truer. Don't worry about safety ----quiet a lot of foreiners have already explored these places before you. But I'd love to see them through YOUR PERSPECTIVE. Just do some good research, stay open-minded, and enjoy the journey! Whatever you do, stay safe and have fun ---- that's what matters most. You're more than welcome, Phoebe!

Just caught up on your China series in time to watch this episode. Glad to see you had a great time overall. For your next visit, I strongly recommend getting out of the big cities and seeing some of the natural wonders like Zhangjiajie, Huanglong, Huangshan, a cruise down the Yellow River... or even a good chunk of Yunnan province. I've personally wanted to travel the full length of the silk road from Xi'an to Istanbul (including a visit to the Darvaza Gas Crater) but that's a big undertaking, especially if done overland (~3months). It can also be dangerous depending on the geopolitical tensions at the time.

Suzhou, renowned for it canals and classical gardens;Guilin/Yangshuo, natural scenery;Zhangjiajie,Avatar Mountains, too many paces……BTW, for Shanghai tours, Shanghai History Museum is a great place to go, where records the 6000 years of vicissitude that has taken place in this city.
