Potentially the sloppiest aspect of the new Control Center is how difficult it is to arrange icons where you want them. Moving one icon to an open space is likely to cause the entire layout to re-shuffle into a completely arbitrary arrangement. It all makes me wonder if Apple announced they'll be moving away from scheduled refresh cycles because they had to rush these products out the door and the products are below standard. Your video is the first I've seen to mention the weird gap between the Home Screen icons and the dock but it drove me nuts to see all that unusable space (and makes the most reachable layouts with the icons at the bottom look ...bad). Great video! Super insightful and to-the-point. Keep up the good work!

It's kinda like in the homescreen, where it's like a mixture between the "old style" layout with apps starting from the top left and the new style with apps in a free grid. I find it infuriating to use because it's so unreliable how the icons will actually move
@jkkay4772 ай бұрын
@@jfamab Yes! The homescreen is infuriating. They say you can put icons anywhere you want but if you already have icons in a row and you move one of them out of the row, everything rearranges just like it did pre-iOS 18. It's really difficult to arrange icons the way you want without a WHOLE lot of work.

I wonder the same thing. Everything about this update and Apple Intelligence screams unprepared and rushed and I wonder if we will see Apple really take time before launching new experiences again.

I really do appreciate your perspective on Apple’s design language. You do a great job of describing what it is about small UI things that aren’t good. Things I have noticed almost subconsciously, but not quite sure why they’re awful. The iMessage menu is a perfect example - it’s terrible and doesn’t feel apple at all, but I couldn’t describe why without just complaining that “it sucks”. Great vid!

yeah, i would eff up that screen and have no idea how to recover

I understand your point with the control center, and I agree it doesn’t feel very Apple. Overall it does feel kind of half-baked and riddled with bugs. That being said, the control center customization is literally the #1 thing that made me switch from being an avid Android user since the iPhone 5 days, to purchasing an iPhone and migrating into iOS. I was so pissed at the last Android update that made all of my quick toggles MASSIVE and I HATED having to swipe down twice for brightness, across for more than 6 quick settings, and no way to revert it or change it. I cannot express enough how important this customization feature is to me. I hope it improves!

Totally agree customization is important! I just wish it all had a bit more polish or intuitiveness. :)

I don't know how this video got to me, but I'm glad it did! Hope your channel grows, because this is really good

I too am glad your video came up on my algorithm. Definitely subscribed for your very engaging demeanor as well as your credibility with design. I hope the best for your and your channel moving forward! I do wonder what your thoughts on Android 15 design are comparative to these of iOS 18..

Wow thank you so much! I enjoyed making this video since I am a nerd about UI design. I have gotten some comments asking about android updates so I might look into it....

I'm currently using the iOS 18.1 beta, so I'm not sure if these features have changed. However, you can reset the Control Center in the settings. Also, the hidden apps folder always shows silhouettes when it is locked, even if no apps are hidden.

Good tip! I’m happy there is an option to reset.

Most inconsistent iOS release design wise ever- I was shocked

I love listening to you! I learned a lot on how to criticize design specifically. Usually I just „feel“ like something is ugly. This helps to explain it!

Its just a bootleg Android knock-off at this point. They couldn't pull off the charm of Android's customisation.
@rajdeepsingha35232 ай бұрын
another point is the Human Interface Guidelines, which lays out Apple's design guidelines to be followed by developers. But it feels like, more and more 1st party experiences are not following their own rules.

I suspect you probably don't have enough experience with it to nitpick it as much, but I'd love you to make a vid about Android UI design (stock one). I think google's material design and how it evolved into Material You is very interesting, it manages to be very friendly yet brutalist. Especially seek out the new Pixel Weather app!

That’s crazy to see the iPhone users going crazy with this customisation that Apple provided… the point of IOS was simplicity even though there was no way to edit the screen as much as on android, so now the android users came full circle to aesthetic minimalism and IOS goes to this very strange route? I’m an iPhone user since iPhone 4s and I loved the company choices, but lately it’s such a flop 🫡
