My hips are hypermobile. Very much so. My jaw is also misaligned, with my midline being off to the left about 2.5mm. I am a dentist and I believe this fundamental misalignment has impacted multiple areas of my body

I tried moving my jaw very small movements while sitting in seiza. The change in how my whole body's weight felt in my feet was unmistable. Also, by doing these tiny movements many times, tiny movements side to side, then front to back, and then cycling through each position again, I was able to find the spinal alignment that felt "right" for my spine, as if I could sit there for a long time! My spine was at ease. Before doing this lesson, I didn't know how to find that. Once I found it, it was very clear that I need more flexibility in the tops of my feet. It was all just mushy before, now I know what my body needs. Thank you so much for this lesson!

Hi Taro! What an excellent question asked by one of your community members. I enjoyed sensing the movement in my cervical spine while moving my jaw from one side to the other. It was neat to feel these sensations. I definitely have a habitual pattern of placing more weight on one side of my body versus the other (especially while I'm sitting). Bringing awareness to this has helped decrease jaw and neck tension on my right side. As you stated, it's all connected. I've found that this method of retraining my mind and body far more effective than getting an adjustment at the chiropractor. Turning towards my body has helped me throughout my healing journey. Thank you for all your insights and gentle practices 🤗

During COVID-19 lockdown times, I could not consult doctor / physiotherapist, to attend to my left knee which was troubling me greatly for a long time. Slowly, there was problem in my right lower jaw too. Once lockdowns lifted, I could get my left knee treated. By the time normalcy was restored in my left knee, I noticed that right jaw problems too had disappeared, without any treatment directed towards it. This did puzzle me a lot, and made me wonder if these two problems were somehow related. After watching this video, I am convinced they were indeed connected. Thanks for such clear explanation.

I found this video very interesting. I have a 35 years old spinal fusion, due to scoliosis. Last year I decided to get Invisalign teeth braces to correct my cross bite misalignment and crooked teeth and started having lots of pain in the hips and SI joint at the same time and have been convinced that the two are related. My physiotherapist, dentist or family Dr. do not seem to think there’s any relation. Thank you for your video.

This is such an important question to me right now! I have had tension headaches, anxiety, and dissociation for quite some years and I feel like one the causes might be my permanent retainers in my mouth. However its difficult because I can not know it for sure if i dont take them out, which might end in irreversible shift of the teeth. I am thankfully taking this risk if my symptoms then get better... but what if thats not even the problem...!? Then i paid money, and i will need to do it again. In the case that this would bring release i think i would try some more humane and easy teeth treatment like an activator or so that is not 24/7 in the mouth. My intuition tells me to take them out but I am scared of making an irreversible and expensive fault and maybe even worsening my state... My theory about why it might be the cause for my symptoms: like most people i experienced some kind of trauma during childhood, i started contracting muscles including my jaw/back/hips/neck leading to dysbalances in the body. Because of that and the pressure in my probably often clenched jaw my teeth started moving in a way that is diagnosed as pathological. But instead of working with those patterns that made my teeth move like that i just let my teeth fix mechanically by putting pressure on them(pressure that is now in constant fight with the pressure my body puts on the retainers) while i had my alignement i was often in a lot of pain and now i still have these retainers... im scared of removing them because im scared of the possbibility that it has nothing to do with it. Of course my orthodentinst doesnt want to hear any of this, he thinks of everything very mechanically... What are your thoughts on this your advice?

I'm sure you understand that I'm not able to give you any medical advice, especially something that is likely again your doctor's suggestions. If I were you, I would start retraining my movement patterns with the retainers. Just like someone who wears orthotics, or corrective brace, they often maintain their habitual patterns with their corrective device. They can use their corrective device as their tactile feedback device and retrain their movement patterns. The corrective device gives you sensory feedback as you explore and experiment movement patterns. Every body part is connected. You can start connecting your body parts from anywhere. You can start exploring hip- lower back connection, or hip-legs-feet connection, and move further. Small movements are all you need. And you can observe how that connects with your neck and jaw, and start to move towards ease and comfort gradually.

Thank you so much for this video and all the others! I have a question, thinking of all the connections, could you talk about how tension in the eyes affects the body. I'm short sighted and very often feel how trying to see clearly causes some tension that goes from my eyes down the spine as well.

How interesting! I have an overbite and during the past few years the teeth have been starting to move around. Meanwhile, my body has getting tighter and tighter, especially my hips and shoulders. It makes me wonder if I should get my overbite corrected and it will improve more than just my teeth? I'm 41 so no spring chicken. 😅

while i cannot say what's causing what, I do know that all body parts are connected, and you can improve whole body connections/relationships, then you will improve your overall functions, comfort, breathing, etc.

I had TMJ issue a few years back and now I have severe nerve pain in my left lower back and hip. Due this pain I am unable to do any exercises which put pressure on hips or involve a lot of hip movement and so I am unable to strengthen my glute muscles. Can you please advise some exercises for my condition? I think I have a flat back too. Thank you for your wonderful videos 🙏.

since all body parts are connected, you can start from anywhere and start connecting all your body parts, and improving overall functions. Since you have difficulty with hip movements now, I would start with any area that is relatively okay for you to move. My neck series might be a good place to start.

@geegee_509 I had a severe TMJ issue ( jaw was locked) few years back and I believe it was definitely related to my braces. It came to a point that I could hardly speak or eat without pain. The dentists and maxillofacial surgeons said I will have to live with it. For months I ate only soft foods and did oil pulling with warm water mixed with a teaspoon of oil and salt twice a day. It helped a lot and now I can eat almost everything. While you try other treatments you may consider oil pulling also.

Never considered the connection between the jaw and hips. So if one ues a habitual standing position with weight distributed to one side, will correcting it have long lasting effects on the rest of the body?
@TaroIwamoto
@TaroIwamoto Жыл бұрын
not that you shouldn't lean onto one side, but being aware of your habitual patterns allows you to create more options so you don't get stuck in the same pattern, which will yes have long lasting effects on the rest of the body.
