I just stumbled on this channel a week ago and I am truly blown away by the overall quality of the videos..and the interesting topics. I'm an American, but have spent most of the last 12 years living outside of Bangkok in Nonthaburi (20+ years since my first visit). So most of the topics are familiar to me (Klong Thoei, old city, Khao Gaeng (aka...food) etc. But the channel does such a great job treating each subject in detail and with such well researched photos and other facts. I am left with one question..why isn't your Thai better?! As a Thai-as-a-second-language speaker/reader, I struggle listening to your pronunciation of some of the Thai. It seems to be purely "read from the English transliteration"....like "hor mok" sounding like "whore maak", instead of the way it really is in Thai "haw mohk". It is similar to "Mo Chit" BTS...which some people mispronounce because they see it as "mo" or "more", but the sound is really "maw". I recommend you learn to read Thai, it is much harder to mispronounce once you learn that..because it is very precise, and not ambiguous or misleading the way the english transliteration can be. Anyway, fantastic content...can't wait for more! And it was delightful seeing Jasper included....seeing it as a team production was much more satisfying that just the previous single host and magic self-propelled camera. Ha.

Another amazing video! I still cannot figure out why the yt algorithm hasnt been kinder to you and you havnt blown up. I can only conclude that some of the thumb nails are not click baity enough as i find it hard to find fault in any of the videos your team has produced. The color grading, story, editing in every video is great and would be worthy of any Anthony Boudain episode. I love asian history and have been fortunate enough as a westerner to study at both Chulalongkorn University and Tsinghua, but i still learn so much i wasnt aware of (ignorant towards) every video! Keep up the great work!

Thank you! Hey- it's a long game. Just enjoying the process and having fun challenging ourselves every week. And for a new channel (just hit 8 months) I can't expect much more- just found a post from mid-February when I was celebrating having 100,000 video views. Getting up towards a million two months later. Growing as well as I could hope I suppose.

@@OTRontheroad yes I believe your right, it is snowballing and growing exponentially. From 100k to 2mil in 2 months proves that. I hope I didn't sound negative, I just want more people to come across these great videos so I get to see more myself. I guess the great thing is, is that the videos are of such high quality that someone only needs to see one to become a fan and watch more.

When I first came to Thailand (2001) I thrived on heat. I'm American, but I grew up in Mexico, and I preferred warm weather, even very warm weather. I would hike around Bangkok in the 100 degree weather like it was nothing (and I used a printed map-- the olden days!) Now, in my 60s, it ain't so easy. I make a bee-line from Bangkok to the North, where it ain't so hot. But I salute you. Well done! (and I love your videos).

Another viral restaurant trend that has been on the rise for more than 10 years in Thailand is “All You Can Eat” or in Thailand we call them “Buffet” restaurants. The styles range from rice dishes, noodles, Seafood, International food, Japanese food, Hot Pot, Suki Yaki, Bakery Buffet, Durian Buffet. You should try them out. 😊 Those restaurants are for example: • Suki Yaki - Suki Teenoi (สุกี้ตี๋น้อย) • International Food - Copper Buffet (At THE SENSE, Pinklao) or in different hotels. • Japanese Food - OISHI Buffet, Shabushi Buffet, AKA (Buffet), ZEN (Buffet) . . . One of your best, if not the best. I was glad to hear you mention Taoism as a philosophy rather than a religion as so many "westerners" and farangs do. I'm also wishing I could have some of what you ate in that Hainanese-Thai spot.....bet it helped you get through the day. As for the heat and humidity and heat index, I get that its hot and you should stay hydrated, but it wouldn't bother me all that much.....been there, done that and quite recently and I love it; considering my age that's surprising to some, but I never think of it as a challenge the way I think of cold and damp. Kudos for this.

oh, that's a lot to go through! I used to do makeup on movies in the summer heat and high humidity in Central Texas -- I remember the temperatures indoors were actually the worst, because we always had to turn off the AC for sound and the locations were usually filled with people and lights; the temps would climb over 120 F quickly. I can remember walking out into blazing sun with 105 F temperatures and it actually felt refreshing and cooling to walk out into that. but 120 F is hot no matter what the humidity; I remember that from living in Arizona. man I don't miss mopping sweat off people (a.k.a. hot weather "movie makeup") in the heat, I'll admit. but I sure did learn how to eat differently, and that I could NOT drink caffeine between 10 am and 8 pm if I didn't want to feel faint. I don't really sweat, either, so I had to work hard to avoid heat stroke. one of the fastest ways to cool down is to get a bag of ice and put it behind your knee -- a huge artery runs there & it'll cool you off faster than ice on your head or neck, and without the headache. :-) stay cool!
@OTRontheroad
@OTRontheroad Жыл бұрын
GREAT tip on the back of the knee. And yeah- I totally believe you about the interior being hotter than being outside. When we do our voice recording, I have to turn off all fans and air conditioning to record- and that's just for maybe half an hour at a time. But that's enough for the house to feel borderline unlivable. I can't imagine a full day of shooting (with a lot of people crowded in, I'd imagine) in those conditions.

I bet you would love to be in Charlottesville right now. It's 64 degree F. I'm in Lorton, Northern Virginia. I do envy you guys though getting to eat all the delicious Thai food especially Kanom Jeen (Chinese Candy) lol.

Hey. Have you heard of cold noodle? Mi Yen. Ba Mi egg noodle, But paired with the sweet and iced syrup and some cold sweet Chinese ingredients like beans and taro. I had one in the alley of the Yaowarat Chinatown. Not so far from the Sapan Lek area.

I think to deal with the hot weather we Indonesians just have copious amount of iced drinks, but we draw the line when the heat affects your health, then we have all sorts of concoctions to stave off the panas dalam (inner heat) 😂 Southeast Asia has been unbearably hot recently so I admire anyone who can stay out in the sun for that long. Very interesting dishes, which I probably won’t be able to try for myself, like that beef tongue in tomato. As former cooks of the British colonial master, Hainanese descents in Southeast Asia seem to have a rather… unique relationship with Worcestershire sauce.

In the segment right at the beginning about various warm-weather foods, you may have noticed one quick shot of Rojak. My favorite hot-weather Indonesian food. Iced tea is great too but it's so (!) sweet.

@@OTRontheroad I did, although that’s not the type of rujak I have in mind for the hot weather, I was thinking more along the line of rujak serut which we actually have with ice cubes or even ice cream 🧐 I’m very curious about khao chae, though. I really want to try it out but also really don’t find traveling to other Southeast Asian countries during these sweltering months to be especially enticing 😫

We eat hot spicy food then we sweat profusely. The sweat then evaporated and the skin feels cool. Look for pla hang tang mo (dried sweet fish flake with watermelon) and kanom jeen sournam (with pineapple, fish ball, and garlic sliced). Old people eat those in hot day.

Durian is called the king of fruit and makes you feel hot! Mangosteen is called the queen of fruit and cools you down. That is why you should eat them together😊 BTW love these vids.... keep 'em comming!

The summer in Thailand is always hot, I and my family always go to waterpark or swimming pool playing and swimming in the afternoon. This year is as hot as I wouldn't like swimming outdoor and get my skin burned. Anyway, it's my favorite season with the following of rainy one.
