#Horseracing #Greyhoundracing #Racetrack
Join us as we explore this AMAZING abandoned Racetrack that was an American horse racing and a greyhound racing track that operated from 1963 to 1993.
Thoroughbred and standardbred horse racing events were held until 1976, when thoroughbred racing was replaced by greyhound racing. One year later, standardbred racing was also discontinued, and the track exclusively featured greyhound racing until closing altogether in 1992 amid pressure from animal rights activists, who objected to greyhound racing as cruel.
Since closing as a racetrack, the site has hosted live events occasionally, including a rock concert in the Lollapalooza series in 1996, and antique car shows from 2005 to 2008.

This place really makes me feel like I lived during its prime. I’m only 25 but my soul is much older I know. I blame myself for the destruction. I locked all the doors when I found the keys in the police barracks. There was only one broken window over by the elevators on the first floor, only way to get in. The next time I went back windows and doors were smashed. It was so sad and I’m still sad about it. I went in for the first time 3 or 4 summers ago, it was like everyone just up and left one day. All the employees info, all the police files and info, all the blue prints all the keys, checks, pictures, black and whites, floors were bare! Perfectly swept. EVERYTHING was untouched , mint condition compared to now. It’s unfortunate and I blame myself but I also blame popular videos on KZbin like this one 😭😭 I never posted pics of this place and if I brought a friend I wouldn’t allow them to post to social media. Like you said though trouble will find it’s way either way. Damn kids. 2015 was the last attempt to revive this place and it was a fail. You might have seen some posters all over the floors for the “full tilt boogie” featuring ZZTOP and the Marshal Tucker Band it was supposed to be a one day event 17 bands 2 or 3 stages beer and food. It never happened due to the danger of the abandon building and lack of money.. this place holds SOOO many stories, I’d love to hear from someone who worked there or went every weekend.. my dad used to go here. My bfs great grandpa used to get drunk and gamble there and one time they called his grandpa and said he had to go down and get his dad.. I wonder if that police report is salvageable haha, magical place, heartbreaking to see it crumbling more and more each time I see it.

We wanted to thank you for this thoughtful comment and for taking the time to tell us about your time here as well. We wanted to quickly address one of the statements you made regarding this video... "I blame myself but I also blame popular videos on KZbin like this one 😭😭 I never posted pics of this place and if I brought a friend I wouldn’t allow them to post to social media." It is true....popular videos of places like these do sometimes invite vandals, scrappers, as well as other criminal activity. We do not create our videos to bring criminal activity to light. Nor do we want to glorify their carnage in any way. We take special care not to mention the name of most of the locations that we go to (including this one) in order to protect it the best that we can. At no time did we mention the name or location. We know that through the power of social media, many of the places we go to will be recognized, shared, talked about and eventually the wrong people may find out the details behind the location. We are sad that there are malevolent people out there, but those people are responsible for their own actions. Neither we, or you for that matter, can claim responsibility. We are advocates for the past and protectors of their history. It is so tragic that there are many people out there who wish only to do harm...just as they will do harm to public places and pristine locations of nature. We cannot stop criminal behavior, but we can do whatever we can to be a voice for lost locations. Many of these places will be demolished at some point and all that will be left is memory and the documentation brought forth by legitimate explorers, photographers and lovers of history. We travel to these beautiful decaying locations to showcase the beauty behind the careless wreckage brought by those who have mal intent. We treasure our moments among lost memories and relics of the past. We know that we are not the only ones who are attracted to forgotten places and hope only to bring nostalgia and our whimsical attitudes to those who dare not to enter or are unable to have adventures to places such as this. There quite possibly might be a misconception about urban exploration. Many people may not understand the difference between vandals with criminal intent and explorers with curious hearts and the longing to document what has been lost. We did not start this channel to make money or to try to become KZbin famous (lol) we started our channel to document our adventures for ourselves. Something to look back in years from now that will make us smile and give our hearts confirmation that we lived life to the fullest!! Along the way, people became interested in our weird and wacky style and have, for the most part, given us encouragement to bring more forgotten places to life! We definitely understand where that statement came from, but we want you to know that we in no way, shape or form wish for anything bad to ever happen to the places that we adore and love. We can only hope that those with their own memories of these places will know that we mean nothing but the highest respect and that we will do what we can to protect what has been left behind. Again, we know that you have the same heart as we do....the same love for days gone by. We just felt a desire to explain to you why we share these explores for public view. Thank you again so much writing to us!! We truly appreciate you and all of your wonderful words.

We were very sad to hear the news.😢 We did not name this place on our original posting due to the fact that we wanted to help keep this place safe. It was an amazing walk through a historic venue and we are happy that we were able to document it before it was gone forever. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment and give us a comment.

They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What may seem an eyesore to one person, just might be a beautiful masterpiece to another. There are places beloved by communities and protected in the hearts of those that hold their memories of its tattered hallways and decayed rooms dear. This is the way that we feel when we explore places that have been forgotten by time. Left to rot and decay and only holding the silent whispers of what once was. We know that there are people out there with malicious intent toward these places that we venture into. It saddens us when we see the filth and destruction they leave behind, but we want to make something very clear… We are explorers and lovers of history. We in no way, shape or form condone the criminal activities that take place in the historical decaying places that we document. Social media has brought many of these places to the limelight, but the intention is to show the beauty and mystery of abandonment. Not to invite trouble. Trouble will find its way on its own and to say that the peaceful documentation of these places leads to criminal activity, is mind blowing. We have met so many amazing fellow explorers in our travels and are so thankful and humbled by the positive responses we have received. We know that this type of exploration is not for everyone…many people don’t understand why we find such beauty in decay, we can only explain it as a beautiful journey into the past. We invite you to watch our explores and come along as we visit these amazing places. As for the criminal activity that occurs, those individuals are responsible for their own actions. It is a terrible part of our society, but reality, nonetheless. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for loving this location just as much as we do. We hope that through this video, the memories held within will remain.

I live only a few miles from here. It's a shame to see the condition of the building. there have been rumors for years of the possibility of the property being developed, but it never comes to fruition. A resort of some kind could create many jobs and bring much needed revenue to the area, but I doubt it will ever happen. I have seen the economy steadily decline in the 33 years I have lived here.

I use to work the photo finish there. The room at the 26.00 mark was where we as a football team would go and eat pizza or pasta etc and watch film prior to our Friday games. We would play pool and ping pong prior to the start of the film study. The GM of the race track Dan Laughlin was our head football coach.

In the early 2000s (if I remember correctly it was 2004 or 2005) a foley artist named Coll Anderson used the building to record audio for a few different movies. Myself and about 15 other people were paid $40 over the course of a weekend to slide chairs across the floor and walk with different shoes on. They also recorded us yelling and clapping in excitement. The audio was used for the court scenes in the movie Find Me Guilty with Vin Diesel. Very cool experience. If I remember correctly, most of it was recorded in the office areas towards the end of your video.

I worked there in that basement in the 80’s, first as an auditor where I made sure the State was receiving its proper share of the revenue, and later as a teller selling tickets. I worked in that 1st room at the bottom of the stairs behind the ticket window. Men were lined up at those long counters, doing various accounting tasks. It was seasonal work. A few of the guys were school teachers as their primary jobs. There weren’t many women working there. In my time there, it was a dog track, but when I was a teenager, it was a horse track. That was the real heyday. I loved to go there to watch (from the parking lot) the horses run. At one time, the outbuildings were horse barns. It’s too bad they can’t find some use for that property. It’s sad to see it so dilapidated. Thanks for the tour.

It was originally horse racing- thoroughbred and harness racing- but was converted to greyhound by the time I worked there. We lived in the hills above it. On summer evenings in our backyard we could hear the races being called “And ...they’re off!! “ and the crowds cheering for their pick. I was a busboy in the fine dining room, which the video doesn't show- but was on the top floor and might be inaccessible now with roof damage. I served Tony Soprano types from NJ with wads of cash. They were normally grumpy and stingy, but every once and awhile one of them would win big and give all of us a $100 bill... which I spent on beer and weed 🤪 It was owned by Art Rooney- owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers and grandfather of the actresses Kate Mara and Rooney Mara. It opened the year I was born, and as you might imagine my parents campaigned against it aggressively. It definitely brought the mob and a whole new seedy element to our tiny town of 2000, but it was the big thing (pretty much only thing) in my town my whole life there. Very weird to see it now!

Would be something to fix the building and turn it into a home. The views of the mountains and all. I just spent an hour watching this. Checking out the prices, wish they were like that now. Why would someone leave their baby picture behind? People that collect matches would go bunkers. My stepdad used to collect matches and match books and old lighters. I still have his gold one. Kids now a days probably haven't seen rotary phones. When I was a kid we had a wooden one on the wall, you held a piece to your ear, rung the handle on the side to get an operator. The town Upstate New York was so small back then the food store was on one side & the post office was next to it. The little 'movie theater' was behind the fire station and you sat on wooden benches. Cost of a movie was 15 cents or 25 cents. We as kids had to earn our money for stuff like that by milking cows, feeding the animals on my grandfather's/grandmother's farm or we'd work in the gardens. I'd squirt the kittens with the milk while milking then put some in a bowl. We'd sit in a rocking chair that was hooked up to the butter churner. My grandmom's ice cream was the best. 👻🤘

My Salvation Army pastors came today and brought me food and goodies today😁 The manager looked jealous cause they told me to get a cart. Last month she said I couldn't use the cart then Major English said I could. This time she just glared at me & said nothing. Wait till she has to deal with the VA😃😂😁 Get your cameras ready. (Brought food for other people in the building too, but as always barely anyone knew about it cause they didn't put the flyer up till this morning.) The head manager started WW3, I'm going to finish it. She makes Hitler look like a Cub Scout. My preacher got the real stuff for my apt reassessment and the look on his face when he found out she'd changed it & stated the stuff was from last year!!! That's the kind of stuff she pulls.

jeffrey fletcher Hello and thank you so much for watching and commenting!! You are definitely able to drive up to the parking area that surrounds the building, as there are hiking trails nearby. It is a very photogenic building from the outside and absolutely amazing to see up close. As far as entering the building, there weren’t any posted no trespassing signs that we could see and there were plenty of open areas. We never ever break into the places we explore. With that being said, there are definite hazards and entering the building is risky and dangerous. We do not recommend entering, however know that people will make their own decisions. Hope that helps a little and we hope that you enjoyed coming along with us!

I was at that concert too. Got there when Rancid was playing. And I think Ramons came on right after them. Was such a great Show. I remember there was this tall ass guy everyone was calling Jesus because of his long hair and beard was crowd surfing and his size 14” boot came down on me dropping me to the mud. Lol. I also remember Chris Cornell was straddling a beach ball someone threw on stage and he pulls out his switchblade and pops a hole in it.

Now not too long ago there was a caretaker of that building that had a wonderful girlfriend who was a great woman who played basketball back in her day, and they did live on that site! Where exactly I do not know. But she recently passed away sadly b she was a great woman and it just makes me think of her. “Tracy”.

BENDER-BOT-ROBOT WR 😢 That is a a sweet story and thank you for sharing that. So often we imagine the history behind the places we visit and, this couple is a beautiful example of how the history of these places can live on even after the doors close for good. It saddens us to see how vandals and looters have treated this place and know that it’s former caregivers and others who care about this place must feel the same way.

BENDER-BOT-ROBOT WR I believe their last name is Saunders and they lived downstairs in the basement where they found the “party room” when I first went there their bedroom was untouched, clothes folded and hanging neatly, bed made, shoes all lines up, makeup , perfume, cologne, guns, ammo, a whole bar of liquor, which I saw in this video someone removed THE ENTIRE bar where the American flag is hanging.. it’s so crazy to see what stays the same and what’s different each time I visit

So sad this went to hell like this. This track brought so much money to this town. They could have turned this in to so many things rather than letting it rot. A concert venue etc...

From what I know of my local caves/systems. The cliffs w the cave are of 346. They use to connect to the property formerly known as SVC and originally know as Everest mansion. The cave use to run clear through to the cliffs off 346, however the cave was demo’d closed on pownal side after a child went missing. I don’t recall if the kid was found or... as the incident happened before my time. However, Everett’s mansion holds a ghost or two and you can access the cave there. After entering off to the right you will find a small pool of water that edges back to the wall. I’ve been told there’s a tunnel in the water, short swim, and you come up in thee tunnel that once ran out to pownal.
