On the way back from a few other explores we decided to pop our heads into the out Ryton house site. its in awful condition with signs of fires, vandalism everywhere and caved in ceilings/floors. but structurally it is a beautiful building with a rich coventry heritage.
Ryton House and gardens information:
Ryton house's Land was originally part of Wolford and Halle fields but was marked out and given to the Wilcox family in 1760. Abraham Aweson left the land to Stephen Freeman in 1798. Ryton house was built in 1806-7 for Stephen Freeman (1774-1856) Mr Freeman was a member of a coventry unitarian tradesmen family. An extension was added to the west shortly after completion but was later removed. After his death the house moved down to his nieces and them to one of there nephews (Charles Brewett). This family still owned the land after WW2 until it became a British legion club which it remained until its closure in 2004 The house is situation in 13 acres of garden. The building is now grade 2 listed.
