It is a true privilege to walk through such a beautiful area! And not least having the stamina and youth to overcome, with a beautiful smile, the most difficult parts of this wonderful trail.

If you are planing to come north you have to visit Gerês National Park in Minho ( northwest) and Montesinho Park in Trás-os-Montes ( northeast).

That area with all the chopped trees was a beautiful pine forest just a year ago. Greedy companies of loggers and lack of proper action by the authorities resulted on the destruction of a big part of the Lousã Mountain Forest.

Iris, those cut down trees are dammed eucaplitus which were bought back from austalia by the portuguese avigators. Anyway, they are a terrible fire risk (oi) but they are like a cash crop….every 7 years or so they get cut mostly for paper. They pop right back up from the roots. They smell great and all, but i hate those trees. In addition NOTHING grows under them.
