The red doors indicate combat points, or places that could be hazardous if the bunker comes under attack. Green is living space, and yellow is chemical/biological. That's where the decontamination area would be. Those round red valve-things are blast valves, designed to snap shut if the site were to be hit by a large detonation. Otherwise, without them, those inside would be snap-crushed instantaneously from the pressure.

If I recall correctly, many of these bunkers were mated with tank turrets to provide a "Maginot Line" type of defense for the country. I think that as the theory of warfare progressed, the turrets were removed from the bunkers, but the bunkers remained in service as control point coverage in case of invasion.
@OlavXO5 жыл бұрын
Hi Todd. Thank for writing to me:) You are absolutely right about the line-part, although calling it the Maginot might be a little out of scale:) From what I`ve learned there were no tank-turrets in these, but they had hatches for easy use of handheld anti-tank weapons that could be aunched from inside the bunker. They did however have foundations ready for AA, guns in place, you can see the 3 concrete-pillars right where I enter the first time. Thanks for watching my video:)
@toddmetzger5 жыл бұрын
@@OlavXO Always happy to watch good and informative videos. Keep up the great work. I guess I was thinking more of some of the bunkers along the Bulgaria-Hungary borders, also many of the German bunkers towards the end of WW2 were equipped with tank turrets as defensive measures, and when they didn't have a tank chassis to mount.

I think that they painted doors with different colors so it would be easier to navigate. As you said - this bunker is like a little maze and I can imagine it would be quite easy to get lost especially during the real fight. Color-coded doors could make soldier's life easier.
@dop_hi7 жыл бұрын
The different colours mean different purposes for each room. Examples; red: Action ready/ Turret/ Firing slots, Yellow: Emergency exit, Green: Storage/ Living quarters. This was for easy Identification during a fire fight or any type of situation.
@OlavXO7 жыл бұрын
This I can totally agree with as it really makes sense:) Thank you for this information, sir:)
@dop_hi7 жыл бұрын
funny enough a madam and it's my pleasure. I have been living in a little village with some old ww2 bunkers. I even started to work in a local bunker museum and my dream has always been to just have a bunker for myself and refurbish them. Good video. I prefer those without music. It's spooky enough. Music just makes the scaryness artificial, and even takes away from it, because you don't hear shit anymore from the original sound of the clip. I can't speak for everyone, of course, but I hope you keep it that way.^^
@OlavXO7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for telling me this:) Feedback from my viewers is the most important thing for me to expand this channel.. I know a lot of you like it with no music, and some of you prefer to have a soundtrack there, but it really boils down to what I feel works best for the video when I`m editing it. Hope you will stick around .

Great Vid. Awesome place, seemed very small in a wierd way. Wonder what it's actual functionality was meant to be? A defensive position? A look out? Either way fascinated with these buildings you keep finding....
@dop_hi7 жыл бұрын
This bunker gave the defending side a position to defend from and attack the invading side once they came thru this road. It's a freeway to the capitol and so it had to be defended. Most bunkers of this type are put there specifically to make it difficult to attack for the invading side. Think it as a funnel where you have to go thru with at the smallest section a machine gun position incase anything hostile walks thru it walks thru a deadzone/ fringing radius of one of the gun and so making it very difficult to proceed.

I simply cannot imagine firing small arms like an M-14 thru those readout slots much less firing 50 cal machine guns ,the non dampened walls and floor would have deafening spl levels well over 180db which is nearly impossible to not go deaf .

I'm sure that because of the current War in Ukraine, the Norwegian Government may look into bringing some of these Bunkers back online. If not, I'm sure that some rich civilian might want to approach the Norwegian Government, purchase them and bring them back up to spec for private use.

How do you work up the guts to go in there by yourself I mean there's just no way I could do it
@OlavXO7 жыл бұрын
I get this question alot. I don`t really think it`s a matter of working up your guts that defines this, I think it`s a matter of just how curious you are and how badly you want to know what the inside looks like that counts. It might seem dangerous or scary when you view this video and are unable to choose what comes around the next corner. When you walk into places like this alone the first thing that hits you is the total silence; you hear absolutely nothing except your own breath and heartbeat and it really sharpen your senses. I think that if you were with someone or had the proper time to adjust to your surroundings, you could explore this place too, don`t underestimate yourself before you`ve tried:) Thank you so much for watching:)
