What was that thing at 10:42?!? Looked like an eyeball peeked out to check out the cam

Yeah. Good eye spotting that. Its prob some kind of animal like a crustacean. The more reflective the eyes the more light they can gather in darkness. Think of a cat or alligator eyes. Super reflective. Ive seen shrimp eyes like this in the dark also.

Weird sound but it doesn’t really sound like echolocation to me

kzbin.info/www/bejne/gojFY613ht2Ae7M Compare the sounds to this video of a Dolphin using echolocation. Quite a lot of similarities, but still not definitive. I think having three kayaks in a triangular formation, each with a sea-lab, might yield more informative data, and possibly help triangulate the position and/or ballpark the speed of the creature - assuming it is indeed a creature.

Yes that's a good idea.. those closest I've gotten to that is two cameras separated by 5 feet that both hear the at the same time. All I know is that the sound is coming from the fish because the fish swam right up to the camera and made the noise a few times and the it correlated to the fish turning right at the object and was much louder even if was very close. It doesn't match many examples of dolphin, it's closer to a narwhal.. but still bot close enough to make a solid claim. But at the same time I would not expect echolocation from a fish that evolved the ability to sound exactly like a mammal's echolocation. I would like to know how these fish are hunting and moving around 1000ft below the last traces of light though, whatever method they are using.

I'm hoping to get back in the lake in March, working on a rov at home now.... inside safe from the snow.

The clicking is clearly from the fan inside the casing. To say anything otherwise is clickbaity

There is no fan... no moving parts. Just a camera and lights in that set up. It's a drop cam set up I made to film wildlife. Although wildlife is not usually too afraid of rovs I think some species would steer clear.

Sounds like a boat but at this distance it would have been passing almost over top by his boat.

Could a boat make that much noise 1200+ feet away? Your previous clicking sound video’s definitely sound different

Maybe, worth exploring further.

I am trying hard to get to my backlog of emails... I know it's hard to tell via podcast but I am really.... I'm horrible at socializing.

@@TahoeDeep I know, I was just wondering. Not judging in the slightest. Do whatever you feel is best.
