The pixelart in these games is absolutely fantastic. Can't believe they made this collection possible and pull it off so well. A must buy for sure. Btw. love the LoS bits.

Agreed and the price is crazy good value for what you’re getting. Big sales numbers for this I’m sure for Konami.

@@EveryDayCivilianBlog I really hope so, seems like Castlevania fans pulling it off, I didn't even expect the Advance Collection. I hope they keep this train going and maybe someday they'll pitch a brandnew one.

@@savaria5063 the success they had with the handheld Castlevania games was immense. Hard to believe they shifted to 3D games and completely abandoned games similar to SotN which is widely considered a top 5 game of all time.

Order of Ecclesia is outstanding. Metroidvania is an easy to understand definition to me. A side scrolling action adventure game where you need to backtrack to areas once you've acquired a new ability or item to progress through those areas

Ecclesia is easily the weakest of the DS trilogy.

Dawn of sorrow > portrait or ruin > order of ecclesia. But all three of them are great tbf.

I played these as they came out and Dawn of Sorrow was always my favorite. Getting the newspaper clippings and being able to find cryptids like Bigfoot, Yeti, etc was so cool to me. I full on 100%’d that and loved it. Granted I had not played Aria of Sorrow at that time. I remember being a little disappointed by Portrait of Ruin at the time since I loved exploring a giant castle and the separate smaller areas didn’t grab me. I expect to appreciate it a lot more on a replay in this collection. I don’t remember much of Order of Ecclesia at all other than it having weird graphical glitches where the side of the screen would corrupt and be super pixelated the longer you played.

So my first experience with this franchise was actually circle of the Moon on Game boy advance. And although it might feel a little clunkier then all of the ones released after it, I absolutely fell in love with that game. I would have probably been around 14 maybe. And I only bought it because I got a Game boy advance on launch and that was the highest rated game that the critics were saying was a must buy. So despite the fact that I didn't know anything about the franchise I picked it up. And I've been a massive fan ever since But, up until recently I had only been able to play the GBA titles, which I honestly have a hard time picking which one is actually my favorite of those. I think circle of the Moon holds up better than some people say it does, but each subsequent entry had a lot of improvements whether it was just better level design or more impressive graphics. When symphony of the night finally released on Xbox live arcade I was able to play that one, which is ultimately probably still the best one even if it's not necessarily my most fondly remembered. And I had over the past few years gotten to experience some more of the classics. However those games are a little more difficult than I tend to enjoy. But it's definitely cool to play through each of them as much as I can. Of those the ones I made it the farthest in were bloodlines, and super Castlevania 4 which is actually one of my noun favorite old school games of all time. Anyway where I'm getting with this was that I never had a DS. And the only thing that ever made me regret not having one was seeing three more of these Castlevania titles released for it. I had kind of given up hope that they would release these games, and I figured it was probably something to do with the fact that the DS had the multiple screens and the touchpad. That that might just make it too complicated to try and port it to modern hardware. So when this game just shadow dropped out of nowhere I was ecstatic for it I haven't played it as much as I would like, but I think I made the mistake of starting with order of ecclesia, because it's the first one on the menu. And man it looks so gorgeous compared to those GBA titles, but I hear you on the difficulty. I am only in that first area and just getting my ass absolutely handed to me. Never before in a Castlevania game have I been so worried about just the zombies. I think I might have to put this one on the shelf for a bit and restart from dawn of sorrow and just go and release order. But it is absolutely so awesome to see that they have continued to re-release these games. And the remake of haunted Castle just hidden in the extras, icing on the cake. Because that is now the second classic Castlevania game that I have finished lol. It's pretty easy but it is so much fun and so charming with some absolutely great sprite work So honestly if Konami is still going to be picky about what franchises they throw a real budget at, I think it would be more than fine for them to continue this series and just keep it 2D with Sprite artwork. Because the game was a blast and still looks gorgeous. Retro games are really coming back on the indie scene so I don't see that fans of this franchise would be disappointed if it wasn't some massive AAA budget technology pushing graphics mainstream third-person action game. That being said though I would definitely like to see lament of Innocents and curse of darkness released. Because I had both of those and they were actually the second and third Castlevania game that I got after being introduced to the series from circle of the Moon. Just because I loved the whole feel of it, even if they are much different games

As far as shaders go, if you’re talking about LCD scanline filters then I’m with you. If you’re talking about those smeared pastel SuperEagle filters like the one you put up then no thank you.
