daniel shim Most people who believe in the theory don't think we are in his dream as such rather his power is so great that his dreams shape and create our reality. Seeing as he is the idiot good he doesn't purposely create anything so he doesn't attempt to wake or stay asleep. This explanation somewhat explains why the universe is so confusing and chaotic. Plus it explains why we can have no canon and have so many contradictions. The universe is a dream it doesn't make sense.

I think perhaps you might enjoy the read. Maybe you'll see connections I didn't see. In the beginning, there was "darkness." Then finally, the "darkness" shed a "tear." From that "tear," the brothers Sword and Shield were born. Sword Bragged that he can cut anything. Shield replied that he could protect anything. Then the brothers began a legendary battle across the deep of the cosmos. At the end, Sword cut Shield and Shield smashed Sword. Sword became the sky, Shield became the earth, and their battle flashes became the stars. And the jewels that adorn Sword and Shield Became the True Runes." According to the legend, true runes are the backbone of the Suikoden universe, allowing it to exist. Each True rune is effectively a sort of god, with its own will or agenda. Because the True Runes hold such immense power, they are often sought by kings, emperors, and other secret organizations, which has ultimately led to many, many wars throughout the ages of Suikoden. No one knows for certain where True Runes came from, but legend tells that the 27 True Runes were created when the brothers, "Sword" and "Shield" fought against each other, shattering themselves into 27 pieces. Although the bearers of True Runes often stop aging and become immune to disease, they are still susceptible to death from physical causes, such as accidents, sacrifice, or murder. If this happens, the Rune will seek another host, or stay dormant. The Rune will also go with these conditions if the part of the body that the Rune is attached on gets severed from the main body, like the hand, for example. It is mentioned that the True Runes also have the ability to give their bearers immortality. In opposition, if the bearer excessively uses the power of the rune, the bearer will die. "THE BEAST RUNE" A True Rune representing animalistic rage and passion; the rune is officially said to have been given to the Blight family by the High Priest Sasarai. However, the fact is that the Beast Rune refused to be contained within Harmonia and took residence in L'Renouille according to its own will. Harmonia hid this fact by claiming that it was a gift, and used it as a political tool. Since then, the Beast Rune laid dormant within L'Renouille until Luca Blight took interest in its power. After the Beast Rune was realized as a weapon of war, huge quantities of blood was sacrificed to it, awakening various "relatives of the Beast Rune" in the form of golden wolves. These wolves caused confusion to the Allied Forces when they took Muse--the city was filled with golden wolves. During the siege on L'Renouille, the Beast Rune took the form of the Silver Wolf and challenged the Allied Forces to a final bout. After it was defeated, it is unknown what happened to the Beast Rune. "THE SOUL EATER" Better known as the "Rune of Life and Death," this rune represents two inevitabilities: life and death. The rune has devastating powers, and an equally devastating curse. The rune is prone to bend fate of people close to it's bearer so they can get killed by several means, and the rune then can eat their souls. "THE RUNE OF PUNISHMENT" The Rune of Punishment governs atonement and forgiveness, attaching itself to a bearer's left arm. The Rune has tremendous destructive power, however, it comes at the cost of the bearer's own vitality. When the wielder's life-force is at an end, their memories are absorbed by the rune, and the person bearing the rune turns to dust. The Rune then transfers to the nearest available host. Whilst it is still believed that the Rune of Punishment will grant standard True Rune abilities such as agelessness; there is no record of any of its previous bearers surviving long enough for this to be an issue. "THE NIGHT RUNE" A True Rune representing the "power of the night," this rune allows "creatures of the night," such as zombies, skeletons, and vampires to exist. There is argument over the nature of this rune due to the Zodiac Sword's claim that his physical form as a sword is simply a "manifestion" of the Night Rune allowing it to interact with our dimension. Luc explains that the True Runes are aware of the fate of the world, which will end in either chaos or dharma usurping the balance and remaking the world in their image. According to him, the True Runes are the key to this cosmic struggle and destroying even one of them could end it. Lore wise, all True Runes are equal in power, and none can outstep their bounds into another True Rune territory of influence. It seems Lovecraft derived some of his work from ancient myth and occult knowledge. Azathoth is Azoth, the spirit within all matter. Yog Sothoth is Thoth, God of knowledge. Nyarlathotep has the word "hotep" in it which pretty much means peace, which is ironic considering this is pretty much the opposite of what he represents. Nodens obviously is related to Odin but I don't know much about Nodens or any of these guys for that matter as I've only read Call of Cthulhu. I'm not sure where Cthulhu comes from but I think he's related to the planet Neptune as it's the planet associated with dreams and the subconscious mind.

Insane how genius these are. I've been thinking a lot about how to portray a whole idea clearly while not having to describe what each part means. So if normal speech is about describing everything, then this is either a tier above or the opposite, you get it. Pretty much a basic knowledge of the pop culture and after watching this you can ask yourself some pretty specific questions and get detailed answers. The Ctulhu video was a similar experience to watching a long essay on a topic you personally don't have much money in. The structure could be that pretty much exactly, especially the overall impact kind of meta summary at the end. Tomorrow I'm 100% getting a fever considering the state I'm writing this in, so if anyone was wondering. Edit: oh yeah the idea was that this video doing so many cool things so well and all that metaphorically made me smile but I forgot

Its hard to really comment on something like this. Let me say you are one of two people who really reminds me why I love weird fiction and the masters such as Lovecraft and Blackwood. You don't repeat what everyone says and you stay true to objective views of a writers literary body as well as showing why you appreciate the stories yourself. I really appreciate your Exploration of lovecraft's mythos and its a go to when I have nothing else to watch. As for my opinions of the video itself. Really love how you describe Yog-Sothoth (same with Hastur). Though not a conqueror like Cthulhu or a Deceiver like Nyarlathotep, he interests me because of his forbidden knowledge and it makes me wonder how much he knows of Azathoth himself, especially since even the Necronomicon doesn't contain much detail on Azathoth. It also makes me wonder how aware he is of Nyarlathotep. Whether he watches and records his deception to impart knowledge or to record entropy as it unfolds in the cosmos. All these little details fascinate me about this particular deity and honestly I now understand why Lovecraft preferred Yog-Sothory (sorry if i misspelled that). Look forward to more content and what else you do outside of Lovecraft.

Yog-Sothoth is also most likely the primary inspiration behind Hermaeus Mora from the Elder Scrolls Series. Though all deadra are beings that live outside of known reality and can shape-shift, Yog and Herma are both described as a mass of tentacles covered in eyes and both govern over hidden knowledge as well as time.

I believe Crowley theorized that Yog Sothoth and Choronzon were one and the same. This would sense being that Choronzon is said to be both the gate and the guardian of Daath on the sepherothic tree.

Hmmm, while I agree on your thoughts about what can be considered canon, I personally hold myself to Lovecraft's original creations. The difference between the Great Old Ones, Outer Gods (Other Gods), and Elder Gods was never expanded upon. In fact I personally believe that many of these classifications can apply to a great number of beings in the Mythos. The story that everyone mentions, "Through the Gates of the Silver Key", was actually written mostly by the stories co-writer. That version of Yog-Sothoth seemed less like the others in Lovecraft's work. Yog-Sothoth appeared in "Dreams of the Witch House" as well. It was revealed that he, as well as many other alien entities, are hyperspace and or use Hyperspace to travel. As the protagonist did in his dream. It is implied that this is where the court of Azathoth exist, and it would also explain the nature of many of the beings. I feel that Yog-Sothoth isn't omniscient in the ignorant human sense of the word, but instead an incredibly knowledgeable entity that travels through time and space via hyperspace and is precieved as being 'all knowing' and one with space and time instead of literally being one with space and time. Humans ignorantly applying magical godlike attributes to things they don't understand, no wonder why the Yithians had us right above lizards in terms of intelligence.

Haha, I was just about to ask if you knew of Bloodborne, and then I reached that part of the video! I loved lovecraftian aliens ever since I first saw Old Gods and their servants in Warcraft, and Bloodborne has since become one of my favourite games. Especially because of the super detailed lovecraftian influences with cosmos, the nightmare and the creatures themselves. Also, Metallicas songs The Thing That Should Not Be and Call of Kthulu, as well as modern death metal bands singing (growling) only about Cthulhu mythos (Sulphur Aeon is an awesome, eerie sounding band).

Other people here have mentioned this, but another video game that clearly references Yog-Sothoth is Skyrim, where the daedric prince of knowledge, Hermaeus Mora, is portrayed as a grotesque mass of eyes and tentacles and has been known to bind those who come to him seeking powerful knowledge to his service. At the end of the Dragonborn DLC, where you gain ancient knowledge from him to defeat one of his rebellious servants, it is highly implied that this will happen to your character.

I believe Hermaeus Mora from the Elder Scrolls series could be seen as a reference to Yog-Sothoth. His Daedric Artifact is the Oghma Infinium, sought after by powerful mages seeking to extend their knowledge beyond the mortal realm. Hermaeus Mora supposedly knows & sees all. He appears as a giant mass of eyeballs & tentacles. And typically when his quest-lines are done he allows you to peek into the Oghma Infinium & it greatly increases your base stats. Also! Skyrim's Dragonborn DLC was basically a Lovecraft Nightmare where you end up going into his world, filled with green skies & black seas.

So I run a Call of Cthulhu game, and all of my campaigns are in the same universe. I took the Cthulhu Mythos lore and took it and changed some things about it. One of my favorite things that I tweaked I made Yog-Sothoth tire of Azathoth’s desire to do nothing but consume and with the help of some other outer gods overthrew and banished Azathoth, with Yog Sothoth stealing and using the immense power of Azathoth to become the omnipotent being that he is. I make some pretty large steps away from the lore in my own head cannon universe but I do quite enjoy it.
