You can watch it here: www.patreon.com/posts/exclusive-vlog-120344505?Link& ABOUT THIS VIDEO: Woohoo! We finally visited the first T&T Supermarket in the US! It opened last month in Bellevue, WA and has already built a reputation of having extremely long lines on the weekends. So we arrive on a Monday morning and thankfully no lines to enter the store. This market is HUGE and we end up spending three hours exploring it. Turns out it’s the biggest T&T location thus far! Also the largest Asian market in Washington State (some say it’s even the biggest in all of US). From fresh seafood to the snack aisles to the bakery, Mommy Oh and I give you a close up look at the many wonderful yummy items you can indulge in at this T&T supermarket. Mina, the main reason why prices end in "$0.88" as the number 8 is a lucky number in Chinese that sounds like "fortune/money". T&T is a Vancouver, BC, Canada based Chinese supermarket chain that was initially named after the owners daughters "Tina and Tiffany". My parents ran a Chinese BBQ shop right beside the 1st T&T Supermarket in Richmond, BC! So excited that T&T is now in Bellevue,WA with another location opening in Lynnwood, WA in 2025!

@@nelsoky Yeah, T&T was better when it wasn't owned by Loblaws. While T&T did well, Loblaw has done more to expand it although the one thing Loblaw did to ruin it was take away most of the meat cutting instore and the cooked food take-out is by weight instead of by the product.

A little preserved duck egg goes a long way. I think of it more like a condiment or topping for porridge, soups etc.
@junsjulywonpilsyonpilchany524112 күн бұрын
Is it the same as century egg? If yes, that makes sense how it’s better as a topping for porridge. I cannot really eat century eggs on its own well but in porridge, it gives it so much creaminess and I can gobble it easily.
@porcorosso433012 күн бұрын
@junsjulywonpilsyonpilchany5241 Kind of... But it is not fermented... It's just pickled... Or submerged into a salty brine to preserve it... They add stuff to make sure the salt penetrate into the duck egg and you still need to cook it before you eat it... Some are also sold pre-cooked... But basically very salty egg white with a almost sweet yolk...
@funkychicken211910 күн бұрын
Duck egg is a condiment just like century egg. It’s salted most of the time so it’s not edible by itself. Century egg and duck egg is the Chinese equivalent to relish, Sauerkraut, saltine crackers in soup type of condiment.

In south China, we'd use those preserved eggs in congee or embed a few chunks in the sweet filling of red bean or lotus paste pastries. On their own, those preserved eggs might be part of a charcuterie platter. Slice it into wedges and serve with pickled ginger (the type you put on a sushi platter).

You two took a very brave bite of that preserved duck egg - once was enough for me. Those figs look "freeze-dried" rather than air dried. I have a great fig tree and have dried them and they get hard and chewy, not crisp and brittle. And I have a mulberry tree (3 actually) and it is the most remarkable flavor. Great vid!

We had one open in Montreal a little over two years ago and another open right outside Mtl (Brossard) a few months ago. Their stuff is good quality but it's also pretty expensive compared to other grocery stores - especially compared to other Asian ones. Their saving grace is that they're huge, clean and well organized and have a LOT of options including a huge selection of snacks that are hard to find, many ready-to-eat hot and cold meals, a big bakery section, lots of skincare stuff and home goods, great "luxury" fruits for gifts and gift sets, cheap bubble teas and so on and regularly have fun events. Most of the time even their sales' prices are still pretty expensive though so my family only go once in a while, when we occasionally see some good deals in their weekly flyer.

I love the egg tarts. Costco actually sells some really good ones frozen. You just pop them in your toaster over and crips them up. I think that your mom thought that it was sweeter because she just ate the filling on it's own. The slightly salty/savory crust balances out the sweetness of the filling. Honestly, for me, the flaky pastry is the best part.

The big packages of snacks and such are typically out year-round, but since it's New Year's, they're themed. They all have the same high price tag. You'll get a better deal though if you make the drive. Closest one to the Peace Arch border, is in Surrey BC. King George Highway will get you there 👌

You two are so great together. I love watching your content, but I had to send a comment about the eggs. I don’t think I’ve really seen too many people just take the egg and eat it hole like that usually they cut it up and add it to a dish to add a saltines flavor dimension to it you know what I mean. And I think it’s the way that they cure it that caused you to have that kind of tingling sensation or what not on your tongue. Yeah, so anyway the century eggs is usually to be used as an ingredient in a dish as a saltines.

I believe dried lily bulbs can be used in brothy soups. Your mom is pretty stylish in that leather jacket. The .88 is because eight is pronounced like "baat", which sounds like "faat", which means fortune. Chinese people have many superstitions related to how the names of things can sound like other words. The fermented/preserved eggs are usually chopped into smaller pieces and you add a little to plain rice congee - gives a little salt and umami tastes to the bland congee.
