I'd never thought before of how the song gets you comfortable with the relatable stuff in the first few verses and kind of lulls you into agreeing and still singing along to the really whack stuff at the end. This kind of stuff always makes me think of whether dictators (or other similarly bad folks) look back at their lives and just kind of wonder how they let things happen as they did. Really great analysis man!

You can also say that the lyrics are very circular, ending where it all began, suggesting the constant rebirth of such mentalities. As one regime begins to collapse and decay, the beginnings of another just learned how to ride a bike. The cycle begins anew.

This is an underrated view of this.. so beautiful.. as we all know.. history repeats itself.. i mean we have better quality (in some sense if the word quality) of life but we still have the same royals leading the masses of humaniy as we did during feudal times and so on and so forth..

I keep forgetting that there's sometimes a carefully crafted message or thought-provoking interpretation behind lyrics. Looking forward to more of this!

I have always been so curious about this song an it's lyrical capability. I remember joking around about how it gets so intense as a kid, but it truly makes you think about your power and choices (and you cannot really get around it if you are listening to the song). This song is genius. (and so is this analysis!)

I love your videos! They're far removed from the the bland contextualization that most analysis channels employ by just looking at each line individually. You're approach to look at the structure as well is great, especially with your critique of Ribs and how it uses repetition to reinforce nostalgia.

Wow, this was actually mind blowing. I listened to this song for the first time just before watching this video and tried to pay attention to the lyrics. I can't say I attributed much to your section 1, but when it came to your section 2, it was spot on with what I was thinking about the song - same for section 3! Unlimited creativity, power, and responsibility to shape our future properly with the right political will. A truly fantastic breakdown, with skilful editing. Keep it up!

I think this video could mean that something that we view as hard like riding a bike with no handle bars is nothing compared to what others can do but there is always consequenses

I remember Jordan Peterson talked about why it is bad to say that Hitler was crazy, because it removes the factor that almost any human being has the same potential for that great evil. This song really brought that through.

Yes! “The line separating good and evil passes not through states, nor between classes, nor between political parties either -- but right through every human heart -- and through all human hearts. This line shifts. Inside us, it oscillates with the years. And even within hearts overwhelmed by evil, one small bridgehead of good is retained. Alexander Solzhenitsyn”

This is all wrong the video shows at the beginning there are two kids one goes one way and the other one goes the other way we follow the red haired boy in the first lyrics but the other kid with blond hair is part of the second and both of them are in as well and one is a business man and one is a older red haired kid trying to take down the blond haired kid but failed and then the business man becomes sad and realising that it was his friend.

Yea, the Flobots were aiight. And this song was fun. I dunno tho, I feel like it hasn’t aged very well. It’s kind of in that whole “Fort Minor” realm of “just-above-mediocrity”. Jus my opinion tho. I’ll still let this song play if it comes on shuffle.
