I learned how to rope control vertical descent within caves. Before descenders were being retailed in the USA. My first such purchase was a small rack that I still use in SRT demonstrations. Body rappel, like prusik knots, has saved lives.

Thanks Josh. That looked awesome. Well done on the abseiling down. I once went caving. I did that ok. Then we did cliff climbing. Which I did. But you had to abseil back down and I couldn't but they convinced me to start and then I got stuck with fear half way down. Froze. Couldn't move. The man in charge had to abseil down to me and try to talk me to the bottom. So well done.

YOU must come to Velenje and explore our coal mine (there's a museum there and you go down with a very old elevator ) its very cool! this museum was refurbished about a year ago .. so I highly recommend it😂😂

Great job Josh! I understand you're being repelled by rappelling, it is scary when one has that primal fear of heights (which I do!). On my first rappel, which was in a cavern, after I went down the sheer cliff, just as I had cleared over the edge of long drop to the bottom (about 4Xs further than yours here), my equipment had an unexpected failure. I got lucky and I only sustained minor injuries. Thankfully I'm not afraid of spiders, bats, or reptiles, frequent inhabitants of caves.

If they're stone, not ice then the oils on your fingers prevent it from continuing to form. It's why almost all cave tours tell you to please refrain from touching things.
