Right now Your website is My Main Treasure. I'll start exploring the other books and exercises. Most of all I LOVE execises with videos. You Are Precious. On top of that, I can tell that You are very dedicated teacher. You teach with passion. Thanks to You I improved my barre chords tremendously.

Good stuff, Bradford. The idea about speaking note names is fantastic. This is going to help a lot of people. Well done. 🙂

Yes, it will help people but I think some people might have a difficult time with the book. Hopefully they take my advice and only do it for 2-3 minutes a day.

Just purchased the book (after buying most of the other books of yours, they are precious). Your site was recommended to me by my teacher. As I am french, and as the names of notes are different, I say them aloud in both languages: double chore 😅

You can use the note names or solfege etc, as long as you are saying them and know what they mean!

Dear sir thank you such a amazing way to learn fretboard . And even you say e sharp instead of d sharp for 4th string 😂😭❤ but thankyouu this is very helpful .

Ha, it does kind of sound like that but if you listen closely I think I do say D sharp!

Thank you for this lesson, great teaching! I have two questions. When I am playing the excercise, should I look at the fretboard or the notation? And should I play the excercise on all six strings in one day, or spend multiple days on one string at a time? Thanks!

Hi Bradford. I just downloaded this and am looking forward to finally having an organized and guided means by which to acquire real fretboard understanding. Although I'm sure the videos alone would be useful, I really value being able to read the notation as well. I've been attempting to flog Shearer's scale pattern studies with less than modest progress. Hopefully, this will help! Btw, do your recommend Shearer's solfege (or solfege at all)?

Shearer's book is awesome but it's so massive. This book is more about just getting students into the upper positions and rethinking position playing.

I tried the first exercise. Speaking notes is hard, but I'm stubborn. I will make it even harder for myself. I will sing all the notes when pronouncing them. The lyrics of my First Song from this book will sound like this: E, F, F#, G, G#, A, A#... In the very end I will slow down a little bit using Ritardando, and after I stop singing and playing, my listeners will have to applaud... Creativity always makes boring things fun. After that I will try to sing all the notes just looking at the book page with the guitar and without playing the guitar. Then I play ANY note on the first string, name it and write it down on the music paper.

There are a lot of chromatic scales in the book (sorry!) so don't worry, if you practice the exercises one at a time you will become very good at the musical alphabet.

Hi! I bought this exercise book and am curious to try it, but what would you recommend as the "regular practice" after the fretboard exercises? I'm not a beginner, I can play the guitar fairly well, but in my own way and there are a bunch of gaps. What would be a good way to practice?
