Hi! We really enjoyed your excellent videos sailing to Wells and back. We holiday in Wells every year as we love North Norfolk and it’s good to know Albatross is back! It was very interesting to hear the history of the local RNLI too. Thank you for sharing the experience with us. Regards. RickLG

Lovely to see a part of the coast I don't know and hear some history. Lovely song at the end too

Thank you - it is far too easy to turn right - but on this occasion, was well worth turning left - I guess most visitors come out of the Fenns / Kings Lynn / Denver as it is a much easier journey for them!

Looking forward to getting our S34 back in the Solent waters in March after 4 months on the hard with full outdrive rebuild/service - much needed after 23 years! Great video, thanks

I think ours has to have some serious work in the spring - definitely one of the outdrives needs rebushing and our rams have started leaking on our starboard side so look out for our 'ouch' coming soon!

Mmmm, ours needed full strip down, new seals, bearings, new cone clutches etc etc. With the addition of new throttle cables, some grease nipples on the steering plus anodes and antifoul, total cost was just over £4 grand 😱included was 28 hours of Labour! Hope you can do yours yourself!,!@@lovelifeloveboat

Yes we should be able to do the bulk of the work, it is just finding time!!! Look forward to seeing some vid of your out on the water!

PS our rams were done by previous owner - evidently they had seized and the engines had to be moved back from the transom to allow them to be removed. As we know, BOAT stands for “ bring on another thousand”!

Absolutely loved watching these Wells journeys, thank you. Random question, is the term ´high tide‘ not used anymore? Is it now High Water?
@lovelifeloveboat
@lovelifeloveboat 10 ай бұрын
I use both!!! Hadn't really noticed that I was using one term and not the other until you mentioned it :)

I've been sailing for over 50 years, and still have some of my original navigation textbooks: they all refer to it as 'high water', as do all UK current tide tables and pilot books. 'High tide' is a popular colloquialism (probably an American import), but not used by professional mariners.

Great vid Gav, really enjoyed it. What`s it like night navving on the Broads, Lightning has navigation lights, and we`re allowed to night cruise, but i`ve never done it, and Karen woulld be nervous, what advice would you give?.

Dead easy when it isn't foggy and there is a bit of moonlight, any other time, downright sketchy! We are spoilt as we have NV equipment and I have spent half my life looking at everything is monochrome or green!

Enjoyed the video! Out of interest, I see you have a dog on board and your return trip took approximately 10 hours, how does the dog go to the loo? 😊 Only ask as we will be looking to bring our dog on some journeys.

That is a really great question, and it was a worry of ours but we balanced this over a really flat sea and if needed we considered the use of the bathing platform - this isn't at all ideal and would have been impossible and down right dangerous in any type of sea and we have a number of 'inco sheets' if needed - we have used this before, and he will wee on them. Luckily he didn't need to go, but we did moor up briefly as soon as we were able and he could have put a fire out poor chap!

Enjoyed the video, just out of curiosity. How much in fuel did you spend if you don’t mind me asking thanks… I have a sea line ambassador 310 I’m thinking of doing the same journey

We were lucky - we used a ton on the way up and very very little on the way back - I am working out the costings at the moment and will try and get an update vid on there - but around half a tank on the way up and less than a quarter on the way back as the tide was pushing us along, we had a massive time window and these really helped! You can go a long way when the tide is on your side - however, this is the difficulty in getting to Wells as you will have the benefit one way and a fuel/speed challenge the other!

@lovelifeloveboat

It isn't quite as muddy as it looks - more sandy! Hey your slip looks sooo similar to one I used to have in the UK for an old boat - post in exactly the same spot!!!

Lost me at those treacherous bastards rnli. How they sleep at night goodness only knows.
@lovelifeloveboat

I thought about how I may reply to this and would say that the volunteers on the East Coast look after our coastline and have rescued many in awful conditions. At the moment there are decisions taken by the RNLI executive that many in the RNLI also question, yet the volunteers themselves set to sea to rescue and save all life, in all conditions and without question, in much the same way as the crew at Penlee set to sea on that fateful night in 1981. I cannot comment on the speculation of the commercial decisions that have been taken by the RNLI as I simply don't know, but I do know many of the East Coast crew personally and they volunteer and put to sea in some pretty horrid conditions, and are proud to do so without any pay or remuneration, and use their local knowledge to ensure safety of others and without them, our coastline would be a far more treacherous place.

I'm not sure that is a fair comment - the RNLI are in an impossible position on the south coast. What would you do?
