Exploring the Island of Olib in Croatia

Next on our trip was visiting the small island of Olib. It's not the smallest of islands but it only has one small little town with many beaches within walking distance. It also has another peculiar feature unlike any place I have visited before but something I came to understand well on the PCT.

Very nice video and very happy that you enjoyed the Island. The bread is absolutely amazing, and we would take trips to Silba to go to the Disco, and get their bread. Been going there for quite a long time and it’s awesome to see tourists there exploring the islands natural beauty. Thank you for posting this.

Next time visit slatinica bay and siroki bok bay lots of bright sand

We actually went to both of those. Slatanica bay was jam packed with boats! I think we counted 12 at one point so we swam way off to the side. Siroki was nice but also had a few boats but we did spend more time there. It's amazing how many beaches are within walking distance of town. We totally loved this island. That bread too was so amazing and for so cheap! I could eat it every day.

Jay, While you were in Olib, you said you had no idea why they built so many walls. My parents, both born there, said those stone walls were built to clear the land so they could grow vegetables and fruit - potatoes, kale, olives, figs, tomatoes, etc. Also, they used the stone walls to corral their animals and to designate their properties. Thanks for taking us on a tour of Olib!

So much work! It was amazing to see such old structures everywhere that's for sure. We figured a lot of it was for soil management so it wouldn't all wash away and to create tiers. We guessed some were for animals and properties as well but some of the walls were over 2 meters tall! My week in Olib is still one of my favorite times in Croatia.

No sharks!

I guess there are some sharks in the Adriatic Sea but no tiger or white so it's super safe. We were more afraid of those sea urchins!
