Why are you trying to invoke facts and proofs about a person that it is not proven ever even existed? I agree that he would not've looked aryan, but my use of modals is more precise, because it's still all speculative, since there is no proof this person ever even existed. You might as well be getting upset at someone not depicting Spock properly in the reboots, it's just as valid, since he is an unproven person, or fictional too. You can't rely on facts or historicism with someone that has no existence in formal history, and that's why we look down on US history, because they always waste our time talking about an imaginary character, like in this one that is otherwise a series about people that are documented and existed. Regardless, you can't make an appeal to authority or facts with someone that there is no proof of their existence in the first place. The day that you can prove anything about your imaginary friend is the day that you won't be taken to be under some kind of psychosis by psychiatrists, but definitely cannot appeal to facts in our world about your superhero that you are a big fan of.

The Jesus most people think of isn't real anyways. Just a story that got out of hand over 2000 years. Also the main followers of Christianity over history where in uneducated people in Europe, so it made sense for them to depict him that way. Just as most depictions of Buddha (Siddhartha Gautama) are East Asian rather than South Asian, where he's from. This man, Will Durant, has an ability, which I've rarely seen, to give us an extraordinary synthesis, of the great questions -and the men who posed them - of our Western history and culture. Our religion, Christianity, however true its founding myths may be, is here treated fairly. (Shame that the muslim world has never had such clear-eyed analysts of its original myths and stories.) 41:00 Durant quotes half the story. Jesus refused to help the Canaanite woman in her request to save her daughter; but she talked hi into it. "Even the dogs eat the crumbs from the master's table." So he cured the daughter, and then he brings the non-Jews into the kingdom of God. Same with his first sermon, where Jesus points out that God comes to non-Jews, and they want to throw jhim off the cliff. That's in Luke.

As good as this is, Prof. Durant missed a big point. At the end of the first sermon Jesus gave in Nazareth, he spoke about how God comes to those who are not Jews as well as to Jews. They got so mad they tried to throw him off a cliff. Also, when he told the Syro-Phoenecian woman he was sent to the children of Israel, not to the "dogs." She said even the dogs get the crumbs off the table; and he cured her daughter, showing that he is for the Gentiles as well as the Jews. In fact, it is a piece of the Hebrew Bible (OT) that Jesus talked about, that God is not just for the Jews. Otherwise, this is an excellent summary of the historiography and history of Jesus in the world.

That would have cost those guards their lives, so it's highly unlikely that they would have gone that far. And don't forget, they probably got paid for the corpse, anyway. Normally they would have disposed of it in a less than festive way but it's highly likely that they took quite a bit of money to hand it over to the apostles. Paul doesn't mention the corporal resurrection. To him this whole affair is entirely spiritual and he meets the resurrected Christ only in a dream/vision (which, incidentally, happens during an episode of what could very well have been methanol poisoning, if we make a comparison between his description and the modern symptom cluster). It's only some ten years after Paul's death that all the resurrection and miracle stories appear, which means that they were made up later.

Well, wherever and whenever he was, who says he was not? The above illustrations depict Jews (from Judah) and other Israelites. You’re likely correct, but the problem is that Will Durant wrote this book, assuming it’s Caesar and Christ, in 1944. Biblical studies have just advanced a lot and discovered more since this book came out.

Durant believed in the historical Jesus, not the Divine. Durant admired Jesus and late in life spoke on wishing he could found a philosophy that caused actuation of all the teachings of Jesus, as well as exemplify His life sans the divine considerations. His analysis here of the historical Jesus is awesome in fairness to a divine proclaimant with whom he dismissed the proclamation of. Durant misses some things in edit, and ignores some others, but to use his own words; this is minutiae. I respect Will Durant's essay here. One of the best pieces Ive ever seen from a non-believer. Mr. Durant was exceptional indeed.

Listening to this again, and looking at the picture provided, it's interesting that nobody knew what Jesus looked like. Most Christians have this image of a lightly brown skinned attractive looking man with a great sense of empathy in his blue eyes, for all we know he could have been a small dark skinned balding fat ugly man, but that probably wouldn't go down very well especially in the States.

Thank you for sharing your story. GOD LOVES YOU, Jesus Christ Loves You! They love all their creation! So many people abuse the name of God and Jesus Christ. So many call themselves Christians and abuse others with hate, prejudice and discrimination! Jesus Christ taught love and acceptance of all others especially and including Gays and Lesbians. The oldest texts of the Bible used to contain pro Gay verses! On two occasions in the first One Thousand Years of Christianity investigations were called for by the full assembly of all officials of the Christian Church to mandate a thorough research team of theologians to determine what the Bible taught regarding same sex love, etc. In the first investigation in the first 500 years it was found that there was not so much as a single verse that was anti gay! In fact the Bible was found to be Gay Friendly and Pro Gay! This was investigated again 500 years later and it was noted that the Bible had been changed so much that it was becoming neutral on the subject! Radical Heterosexuals began to take over the church. They set about to promote their Radical Heterosexual Agenda and were so blatant about it they shoved it into people's faces! After the year 1100 anti gay verses began to appear in the Bible. Stories and verses began to be completely rewritten to become outrageous anti gay stories! Radical Heterosexual Popes ordered more than several hundred complete rewrites, edits, redactions and changes to the Bible. Some experts claim to have counted more than 250,000 deliberate changes and alterations to the Bible! The majority were NOT benign, nor improvements, many were out and out malicious. The famed Scientist Isaac Newton was told after church one Sunday that what you heard in Church today is NOT the Word of God NOR the scriptures we grew up with! Isaac Newton took note and researched this his whole life and found his parents were right -- the Bible had been rewritten many, many times! He believed a substantial number occurred in the days of Emperor Constantine. In addition many important persons and names have been deliberately obfuscated, changed, concealed and even deliberately hidden and or altered! For example: Jesus isn't even the Savior's name! There is no one in the Bible named Jesus! The Savior's name is "Yashua"! The proper translation of His name would be: "Yashua" to Joshua! There is NO "Mary" Magdalene. The Roman Catholic Religion and Church was originally founded NOT by Jesus Christ, but hundreds and hundreds of years before Jesus Christ, by Romulus and Remus. On the very day they founded Rome they dedicated it to VESTA, in honor of their mother who was a VESTAL VIRGIN! She had escaped the horror and slaughter of the TROJAN WAR and the burning and destruction of TROY. The Catholic Church had the Vestal Virgins. Roman citizens knew that: any Roman citizen condemned to die in the Coliseum could turn and Appeal to the Emperor for their life. If the Emperor gave a thumbs down -- they could then turn to the Vestal Supreme Justice and appeal for their life. If she believed that there was any law that could save them she had the Full Authority to overrule any Emperor of the Empire! Any time they had need to cross Rome they were carried in a military chariot with military body guards, and escorts. One went ahead to stop and clear all traffic for Her! On many occasions in National Emergency the Emperors called the Empire to Prayer and Fasting, they especially called all Vestal Virgins! The Records report they were saved many times by their Prayers and Fasting. In time some of the Highest Lady Justices converted to the Christian Faith. They had to give up their positions, titles, tenures, prestige, chariots, personal body guards, Professorships in the Vestal Roman College of Law and Justice, honors, pensions and take up a life of poverty and humble existence! Their sacrifice for Jesus Christ and the Christian Faith was honored by a marble plaque in the Roman Forum which remained for almost 2,000 years! This also bore down on some Church Fathers that they had a growing number of members that followed the teachings and vows of chastity, celibacy, abstinence and total poverty. So some Popes thought it to be ok to take Jesus Christ out back to the wood shed and tell Him like it is and give Him the where to fors! They told Him we are going to make you the official GOD of the Roman Empire... but we have a large number of Vestal Virgins, Nuns, Convents, Monks, Monasteries and hundreds of thousands of Churches and Church Workers that we have required and Demanded to take the vows to be Chaste, Celibate, Abstinent, and Poor and it just wouldn't be fair to them unless You Are Also! They did this because they could not demand the monks and nuns to be celibate if Jesus Christ was not celibate! A monk named Damien in the 1100's wrote Pope Leo the Ninth to persuade him to sanction all sex to increase church revenues, taxes called indulgences. It was known that straights were taxed and gays were not. It did not seem fair. Straights had to "Pay To Play" then so should the gays. It was ordered The Church was pressured by a growing number of Radical Heterosexuals to start sanctions and taxes on gays. By the way the monk Damian who was opposed to gays started a new form of worship now known as S&M. He believed in flagellation. It took on in the Catholic Church and was used against the Protestants in the horrific Inquisition, In the last years of Jesus Christ's life He did have a Gay marriage and married His Beloved named John. In the Greek language and culture the word Beloved is used to describe one's most intimate lover and spouse. David and Jonathan of the Old Testament also had a Gay Marriage! According to ancient Jewish wedding practices: they had a dinner to announce their Union, and then they had an exchange of wedding gifts which was each gifted to the other brand new raiment clothes and they then took up living together as Spouses! The Bible says that their love for each h other exceeded that for a woman! God knew this and Samuel knew this. But God approved! God Almighty never sent Samuel to confront David! This video is a lie. “Historians” have to lie about Jesus. If Jesus walked on water, did miracles, is The Son of God, rose from the dead,then for many, that’s problematic. Jobs/ professions would cease. Credibility, out the window. Because if Jesus is truth then everyone else is a liar. Jesus says “I am The truth….” If Jesus did no miracles then He’s not “a great moral teacher”. If He’s not who scripture says He is then He’s a liar and shouldn’t be given the time of day. I can certain appreciate and understand your perspective. The essence of those stories captures the imagination of people sharing them. Philosophy begins in wonder. It seems unbelievable that Jesus could actually walk on water. Well, if you can imagine an ideal man he would for sure be able to walk an water. Or would he, I don't think so, you don't thing so. The only remaining thread of possible wisdom is that metaphorically, the man (big J) can do things that we mortals can not. End of story, bow down and marvel at that imagining. A bit weird eh?
