It's GREAT to see the two of you again. You've been away from your youtube channel for much too long. Enjoyed touring the unique and interesting Lummis Castle with you, of course. Couldn't miss the old L C Smith manual typewriter perched front and center on the antique roll-top desk. A different L C Smith firm manufactured some very well-regarded (but not budget-busting) double barrel shotguns back in the day, as well. Please hurry back with another video adventure.

Another lovely tour, you two. I hope you arent getting stir-crazy in lockdown. Interesting you should mention the frighteningly short deceleration lanes/ exits on the 110. I experienced them, thankfully incident-free, years ago when driving round the area, and Micah, the helicopter tours of LA guy here on youtube made a special mention of them recently in a video of his flying down the Arroyo Seco Valley. You should get together with the guy and collaborate on stuff.

Fun video. Hate to shoot down the "hidden compartments" theory on the desk, but that is very much a factory made desk. If it was a custom desk with hidden areas, the gallery wouldn't be sagging like that, as a real joiner would build it better.

I remember back in 1967-1969, when we lived on 42nd Ave, just next to that house. my brother and I were 7 and 5. We don't remember the property being gated, from memory it was easily accessible. It was not an "attraction" at that time. We rode our bicycles around the "park trails". The gardeners keep telling us not to ride in that area. At that time, it was not a "castle", just a plain old big park (to us) with with a house on it. Fun to play.

I was actually thinking about you two yesterday. I realized I hadn't seen a video by you in a long time, and I thought maybe something had happened to you. I'm glad you're back. I am not an Angelino, but I have a book on the decorative movement known as the Arts and Crafts style. L.A. had many artists who worked in the style, and Lummis' house was in the book as an exemplar. The Greene brothers were probably the most famous Arts and Crafts designers from the L.A. area, but there were many people who did outstanding work from there. I can't remember, if you haven't been to the Gamble House, one of Greene and Greene's more famous works, I suggest you make a video on it, if they allow it.

Yes, such an interesting place to visit and likely one that's overlooked for out of town visitors. Lummis is such a unique character to read up on. forget which book I read about him and his adventures. And its quite a castle he built. Ugh, the Pasadena freeway, think I hate the on-ramps worse than the off ramps.

I was poking around and found a place you may want to visit. There is a LA County fire museum housed in Bellflower Ca. That's probably right close to you, it's free but they accept donations. It houses lots of fire equipment including squad and engine 51 from the tv show Emergency! from the 70's. They even have a website, I think you would put a great spin on the place.
