Based on the DWR's Snow Surveys and Water Supply Forecasting unit, this year's result will go down as one of the largest snowpack years on record in California. The massive amount of snow fell in high elevations will last probably for another month or maybe until next fall. This means the casual hiking that happens starting summer might be delayed.
David, Liming and myself did our own explorations in Mt Whitney Main Trail up to 10,500 ft. We have never seen this mountain with this so much snowpack and creating some disastrous events with it. So for those who has permit to hike in the summer through fall must do some research before going. The terrain is somewhat unrecognizable in some parts due to high volume of snowpack. This is why we only planned to stay in lower elevation for an overnight and climb only as far as we feel comfortable and safe. Nonetheless, we very much enjoyed this adventure of a lifetime.
Happy Trails Everyone!

Awesome adventure!! great you caught those skiers too! wow so much water at the creek crossing on the way down that is crazy!! we watched someone do the mountaineers route a few weeks ago, from their video it looked like no one was making it up the regular way, the cables area is just too much / i wonder if those ladies made it, i guess some people have methods of doing it that is nuts!! so cool to see the mountain under so much snow thanks for taking us with you Roxana and i enjoyed the heck out of this one

Thank so much, Andrew! I have a permit for Mountaineer’s Route for next weekend but me and David decided to cancel it. It’s too much snow and we don’t have enough time to train. That last 400 ft straight up to summit is so dangerous that I might just get stuck there. The two ladies were sisters.. Kristine and Kendra and yeah, they made it to summit the next day. They climb the chute since the switchbacks are still buried in snow. Today, me and David went to Dry Lake and it was Sierra-like as well. The lake is overflowing.

Thanks for watching! Both are great brands. BA is of course a bit pricey. Flash design creates more head room I guess.

Wow. Great video my friend. There's just something about the Eastern Sierra , something surreal and dreamlike . The great thing is that it's really not that far away. I'm dying to make a trip but my current situation is preventing that. Oh well. At least I can watch your videos. Tagay!!

Thanks, Susan! I went there twice in 2018, first was from JMT doing the High Sierra Trail in August. Then came back in October. This time was different.. have never seen this with so much snow. Would you come back there?

@@20robertang I did Whitney from Sheppard pass up the west side above guitar lake. I’d love to do an overnight up the main trail. I will put in for a permit again next season. I think it’s great you guys just throw caution to the wind and recon the trail. It’s really informative. Your videos are really wonderful.

Nice set up. What degree rating is your quilt and was it sufficiently warm for you?
@20robertang
@20robertang Жыл бұрын
Thanks! It’s a zero degree quilt, Enlighten Equipment Revelation. I had it for closed to 6 years now and probably it’s now down to 20 degree in comfort rating. Yeah, it’s warm enough. I used it almost all year round.

Thank you sharing. Questions please: I have never hiked Mt. Whitney and we have a permit for July 8, 2023; 30+ years ago was the only timed I hike a mountain of sort, Pikes Peak, and camped overnight. I am fit as I surf, workout, ski, run (and play sports when I cannot surf) everyday but you bet this would be challenge (and who knows how far we can get). Can we make out the trail or would we just get lost? I suspect trekking in the dark is out of the question or can we start before dawn? Was all y'all meals sealed until eaten and totally consumed so no bear container needed? What shoes/boots were you wearing? Thanks.

@@20robertang Overnight if doable, and if not, it will be a day trip which we would need to decide around the 2/3pm mark I suppose. Thanks.
